Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain high-purity terephthalic acid, by suspending crude terephthalic acid, prepared by oxidizing a p-dialkylbenzene in an acetic acid solvent, with a condensate obtained rom evaporated gas as a suspending solvent at a specific temperature to remove impurities effectively.
CONSTITUTION: Crude terephthalic acid, obtained by oxidizing a p-dialkylbenzene with an oxygen-containing gas in th presence of a Co, an Mn, and a Br compounds in acetic acid solvent, is suspended and purified by an aqueous acetic acid, which is a condensate obtained from an evaporated gas, at 100°C or above, preferably 140W 230°C. The condensate preferably contains 5W20 wt.% of water.
USE: Raw material for direct polymerization of polyethylene terephthalate.
