Abstract
PURPOSE: To purify HCl gas by the procedure in which HCl gas containing inpurities, small amounts of water, and O2 gas are introduced into a reaction zone to manufacture HCl gas by the reaction of H2 gas and Cl2 in order to prevent the pollution of burner and also the admixture of the decomposition products of impurities into purified hydrochloric acid.
CONSTITUTION: The H2 gas 6 and the chlorine gas 7 are sent into a reaction zone in the neighborhood of the burner 1 in the purification system in which the burner 1-mounted combustion tower 2, the cooler 3, the adsorption tower 4, and the recovery tower 5 are by turns connected, and also the purified HCl gas 8, the water 12, and the O2 gas 13 are added to the chlorine gas 7. And, organic compound, e.g., acetic acid, etc., contained in the gas 8 is completely converted into CO2 gas, H2 and HCl gas by heating by means of hydrogen-chlorine flame in the presence of water vapor and O2 gas in the reaction zone. And, the reaction product formed in the tower 2 and the main component HCl gas of crude HCl gas not taking part in reaction are cooled and then absorbed in water to revover as aqueous solution. The amount of water used in the tower 2 is more than 10 times as much as the organic compound in mole, and also O2 is more than 0.3 mole % of Cl2 raw gas.
