Abstract
PURPOSE: In separation of water phase and organic phase containing carboxylic acids or salts thereof which are hardly soluble in water, esters of phosphoric acid or phosphorous acid are added to the dispersion. This prevents the production of nonseparated layer and enhances separation efficiency.
CONSTITUTION: Water phase is separated from organic phase containing dissolved 0.01 to 2.0 moles/l of hardly water-soluble caboxylic acid such as naphthenic acid, isocapric acid, etc. and salts thereof. To provide easier separation, ester of phosphoric acid or phosphorous acid is added to either organic phase, water or aqueous solution, or both phases, either prior to mixing or when mixing both phases. As an ester of phosphoric acid or phoshorous acid, alkyl, aryl, aralkyl or alkyl aryl ester and mono, di, or triester can be used. Preferably, a hardly water-soluble ester having less than six carbon atoms is used in an amount of 0.1% or more by weight of organic phase.
