Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound useful as monomers for the synthesis of fluorine-containing polymers capable of showing functionality, in high yield in a few steps, by thermal decomposition of a specific asymmetric diacid fluoride in the gaseous phase.
CONSTITUTION: An asymmetric diacid fluoride (F) of formula I: (A is 1W10C bifunctional perfluoro group; p is 0 or 1; q is 0, 1, 2, or 3) in the gaseous phase is diluted by an inert gas (G) at a molar ratio of F to G of 1:2W1:100 and thermally decomposed in contact with a finely divided heat-resistant solid at 200W350°C in the presence of water in an amount corresponding to the saturated vapor pressure at room temperature as an upper limit to give the objective compound of formula II.
EFFECT: Handling of the raw materials and product in the gaseous phase is advantageous to scale-up, and a small amount of water improves the selectivity of the objective compound.
USE: Comonomers or monomers capable of providing crosslinking sites for fluorine- containing polymers.
