Abstract

PURPOSE: A detergent slurry prepared by specific procedures using a surfactant, an alkali metal silicate salt, and a phosphate salt is spray dried to produce said granulated detergent that has excellent physical properties as powder and permits scarcely the adsorption of water-insoluble substances on the substrates when washed.
CONSTITUTION: An alkali metal silicate salt of 1.8 W 3.2 molar ratio of SiO2/M2O (M is alkali metal) and a surfactant are dispersed in water to from a precursor of detergent slurry. Then 0.47 W 0.58 equivalent amount, per mole of SiO2 in the precursor, of an acid type surfactant as alkylbenzenesulfonic acid or an organic acid as citric acid is added to regulate the molar ratio of SiO2/M2O in the alkali silicate to 4.5 W 6. Further after a phosphate salt is added, an alkali metal silicate is added again to adjust the molar ratio of SiO2/M2O to 2.8 W 3.8. The resulting dispersion is spray dried to produce said granulated detergent comprising 15 W 40 wt% of a surfactant, 5 W 20 wt% of an alkali silicate and less than 12 wt%, calculated as P2O5, of a phosphate salt.
