Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound, useful as a solvent for acrylic resin paint, in high and stable yield, by the reaction of ethyl acetate with specific amount of ethylene glycol monoethyl ether in the presence of a specific catalyst, thereby facilitating the separation of the catalyst from the reaction product.
CONSTITUTION: Ethylene glycol monoethyl ether acetate is prepared by the reaction of ethyl acetate with an excess amount of ethylene glycol monoethyl ether in liquid phase in the presence of a strong acidic porous cation exchange resin. For example, a resin having a skeleton comprising a styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer of a cross- linking degree of 2-50 bonded with sulfonic acid residues, is used as the cation exchange resin.
