Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain magnetic powder which is excellent in magnetic characteristics and corrosion resistance by the procedure in which a powder obtained by oxidizing a ferrous hydroxide suspension containing Cr or Co and Cr is reduced to form Fe powder.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution containing a Cr(III) salt or a Co(II) salt, a Cr(III) salt, and Fe(II) salt is reacted with an aqueous solution of an alkali hydroxide to obtain a ferrous hydroxide suspension containing Cr or Co and Cr, which is called (I) process, Then, the suspension is brought into contact with an oxygen-containing gas for oxidation to obtain geothite powder, which is called (II) process. Afterwards, the geothite powder is subjected to a hydrogen reudction to obtain Fe-Cr alloy or Fe-Co-Cr alloy powder, which is called (III) process. A dehydration process may be inserted between the processes (II) and (III). The alloy powder obtained may be further subjected to chromate treatment, alkali treatment, acid treatment, etc., in order to enhance its corrosion resistance.
