Abstract
1325418 Suction fastenings APPLIED POWER INDUSTRIES Inc 3 May 1972 [16 Aug 1971] 20669/72 Heading E2A [Also in Division G1] A suction fastening for securing an alignment testing apparatus (see Division G1) to the lens 52 of a vehicle headlamp comprises a flexible rubber cup 51 having a central opening 53 in which is secured a hub 54 having a through bore 55 opening into a cylinder 61 in which a piston 62 is movable by a rod 64 having a handle 64a. To secure the fastening, the cup 51 is held against the lens 52 and the piton pushed into the cylinder 61 against the action of a compression spring 69 which acts via a plate 70 and screws 71. The handle 64a is released and the spring moves the piston 62 slightly outwards to maintain suction in the cup 51. The rod 64 may carry a warning mark which becomes visible outside the apparatus if leakage into the cup or cylinder causes loss of suction and the risk of the apparatus falling from the lens. To release the suction, the rod 64 is pulled in a direction away from the cup 51.
