Claims (1)
- 【特許請求の範囲】 1.包含媒体に分散した液晶材料および成分の複数の粒からなる液晶複合体の 製造方法であって、 a)包含媒体に液晶材料の粒を形成する工程;および b)液晶材料と成分の溶液を包含媒体に接触して配置することによって粒中の液 晶材料にその成分を吸収させる工程 を含んでなる方法。 2.成分が、添加剤、界面変性剤、およびねじり剤からなる群から選択される 請求項1に記載の方法。 3.成分が多色性色素である請求項1に記載の方法。 4.粒中の液晶材料が正の誘電異方性を有するネマチック液晶材料である請求 項3に記載の方法。 5.粒中の液晶材料が、色素を含む溶液中の液晶材料と同様である請求項3に 記載の方法。 6.吸収が色素含有エマルションを粒と混合することによってなされる請求項 3に記載の方法。 7.マトリックス材料に分散した液晶材料と多色性色素の複数の粒を含んでな る液晶複合体の製造方法であって、液晶材料が、少なくとも1種の付加的な材料 によってマトリックス材料から少なくとも部分的に分離されており、 方法が、 (a)少なくとも1種の付加的な材料によって液晶材料を包囲しているカプセル を形成する工程; (b)マトリックス材料またはその前駆体が存在する媒体においてカプセルを分 散させる工程; (c)マトリックス材料またはその前駆体をカプセルのまわりで硬化する工程; および (d)カプセル中の液晶材料に多色性色素を吸収させる工程 を含んでなる方法。 8.液晶材料が正の誘電異方性を有するネマチック液晶材料である請求項7に 記載の方法。 9.多色性色素を含んでなる液晶複合体の製造方法であって、液晶材料が液晶 材料のまわりに分散したカプセル化材料および界面材料によってマトリックス材 料から少なくとも部分的に分離されおり、 方法が、 (a)界面材料およびカプセル化材料によって液晶材料を包囲しているカプセル を形成する工程; (b)マトリックス材料またはその前駆体が存在する媒体においてカプセルを分 散させる工程; (c)マトリックス材料またはその前駆体をカプセルのまわりで硬化させ、マト リックス材料に分散した液晶材料の複数の粒を形成する工程;および (d)多色性色素と液晶材料の溶液をマトリックス材料と接触させ、マトリック ス材料中に分散した複数の粒中の液晶材料に多色性色素を吸収させる工程 を含んでなる方法。 10.複数の粒中の液晶材料が、正の誘電異方性を有するネマチック液晶材料 である請求項9に記載の方法。 11.多色性色素は、アゾ、アントラキノンおよびペリレン色素からなる群か ら選択される請求項9に記載の方法。 12.液晶材料および多色性色素の溶液を、約20〜90℃の温度でマトリッ クス材料と接触させて配置する請求項9に記載の方法。 13.液晶材料と多色性色素の溶液が約0.5〜5重量%色素を含む請求項1 2に記載の方法。 14.過剰の液晶材料および多色性色素を、窒素流を注ぐことによってマトリ ックス材料の表面から除去する請求項9に記載の方法。 15.マトリックス材料に分散した複数の粒中の液晶材料が、マトリックス材 料と接触させて配置した多色性色素との溶液中の液晶材料と同様である請求項9 に記載の方法。 16.カプセル化材料中に分散した液晶材料と色素の複数の粒を含んでなる液 晶複合体の製造方法であって、液晶材料および色素がそれらの間にある界面材料 によってカプセル化材料から少なくとも部分的に分離されており、 方法が、 (a)(i)液晶材料の複数の粒がカプセル化材料によって含まれ、(ii)界面 材料またはそれの前駆体が、界面材料またはそれの前駆体と液晶材料が相互に溶 解性である、液晶材料、要すれば溶媒との均一溶液を形成する条件下で、カプセ ル化材料、界面材料またはそれの前駆体、液晶材料および水性担体媒体を含んで なるエマルションを形成する工程; (b)そのような前駆体が存在する場合に、界面材料の前駆体を重合して、界面 材料を形成する工程; (c)水性担体媒体を除去する工程; (d)マトリックス材料またはそれの前駆体が存在する媒体で複数の粒を分散す る工程; (e)マトリックス材料またはそれの前駆体を複数の粒のまわりで硬化し、液晶 フイルムを形成する工程;および (f)多色性色素と液晶材料の溶液を液晶フイルムと接触して配置することによ って、多色性色素を複数の粒中の液晶材料に吸収させる工程 を含んでなる方法。 17.包含媒体中の液晶材料および包含媒体中の液晶材料に吸収された多色性 色素を含んでなる、ディスプレイを製作するための光学的デバイス。 18.液晶材料の異なる部分に電場をかけるために電極手段をさらに含む請求 項17に記載の光学デバイス。 19,電極手段が活性マトリックスパネルを含んでなる請求項18に記載の光 学デバイス。
