Abstract

PURPOSE:To make high-grade display free from unequal colors (unequal gaps) by incorporating a spacer into a hole sealing material. CONSTITUTION:One glass 8 is printed and coated with a sealing material 4 and partition walls 5 are formed simultaneously with coating of the sealing material. The peripheries of the outer peripheral parts thereof are adhered to each other by the sealing material 4 via a prescribed spacing in such a manner that respective electrodes face each other. A liquid crystal injection port 9 formed by previously notching a part of the sealing material 14 and the barrier walls 5 existing near the injection port 9 are provided. Further, a liquid crystal 3 is packed into the spacing between the upper glass 7 and the lower glass 8 from the injection port 9 and thereafter, the injection port is sealed by using the hole sealing material 6. The thickness of the liquid crystal layer 3 near the hole sealing part is reduced by the shrinkage on curing of the hole sealing material 6 but the in-the-hole sealing material spacer 12, i.e., the in-the- hole sealing material spacer 12 of the size nearly equal to the size of the liquid crystal layer 3 is incorporated into the hole sealing material 6, by which the difference in the strains between the peripheral part of the hole sealing part and the glass is eliminated.

The technology of the conventional liquid crystal display device disclosed in JP-A-2-34820 and JP-A-50-115052 will be described below with reference to FIG. FIG. 2A is a plan view showing an example of the structure of a conventional liquid crystal display device, in which an upper glass 7 having an upper electrode 1 made of a transparent conductive material and a lower electrode 2 made of the same material are formed. The inner spacer 10 is arranged on one of the surfaces of the lower glass 8 so that a predetermined gap is provided therebetween, and the electrodes of the upper glass and the lower glass are arranged so as to face each other. The periphery of the part is adhered to each other by the sealant 4 containing the spacer 11 in the seal. Further, it has a liquid crystal injection port 9 formed by cutting a part of the sealant 4 in advance and a barrier 5 located in the vicinity of the injection port 9. The liquid crystal layer 3 is filled into the gap between the two glasses 7 and 8 through the injection port 9, and then the sealing agent 6 is added.
To seal. FIG. 2B is a sectional view taken along the line AA of FIG.

However, in the conventional liquid crystal display device, when the liquid crystal injection port is sealed with the sealing agent after the liquid crystal is injected, the vicinity of the sealing portion is caused by the shrinkage caused by the curing of the sealing agent. The thickness of the liquid crystal layer becomes thin. At this time, the barrier 5 provided at the same height as the sealant 4 and inside the liquid crystal layer 3 inside the sealant 4 serves as a fulcrum as shown in FIG. There is a drawback that the upper and lower glasses are largely distorted in the direction, and the distortion causes color unevenness (gap unevenness) around the barrier 5.

A method of concealing the peripheral portion of the screen with a blind can be considered, but it is necessary to take a lot of space between the pixel and the blind, and the outer shape of the panel becomes large for the display (pixel) portion, so that a personal computer or a word processor is required. As a display device for use, it goes backward from downsizing.

Further, although the distortion is reduced to some extent depending on the shape of the seal and the shape of the barrier, color unevenness cannot be completely removed.

That is, the liquid crystal display device of the present invention has a structure in which a spacer is contained in the sealing agent for sealing the injection port, so that the liquid crystal layer due to the distortion of the glass due to the contraction of the sealing agent at the time of the sealing is formed. By eliminating the difference in thickness, it has a panel structure that eliminates color unevenness (gap unevenness) and enables high-quality display.

In FIGS. 1 (a) and 1 (b), one glass 8 is printed with a sealant 4 and a barrier 5 is formed at the same time as the sealant is applied. The height of the barrier 5 is the same as that of the sealant 4. The respective electrodes are adhered to each other with a sealant 4 around their outer peripheral portions with a predetermined gap therebetween so as to face each other. Then, a liquid crystal injection port 9 formed by cutting out a part of the sealant 4 in advance
And the barrier 5 located near the injection port 9. Further, the liquid crystal 3 is filled in the gap between the upper glass 7 and the lower glass 8 through the injection port 9, and then sealed with the sealing agent 6. When the liquid crystal injection port 9 is sealed with the sealing agent 6 after the liquid crystal is injected, the thickness of the liquid crystal layer in the vicinity of the sealing portion becomes thin due to contraction accompanying the curing of the sealing agent 6, but By including the spacer 12 in the sealing agent, that is, the spacer 12 in the sealing agent having substantially the same size as that of the liquid crystal layer 3, as shown in FIG. Lost.
