A predetermined area at the center of the transparent base is a display area of the color liquid crystal display panel, and the outside of the display area is a non-display area. Further, a plurality of the color filters are formed on the transparent substrate at predetermined intervals. Further, a light-shielding black mask is formed on the transparent substrate and between the color filters.
Furthermore, a flattening film made of, for example, an acrylic resin or an epoxy resin is formed almost entirely on the transparent substrate, mainly for the purpose of flattening the color filter forming region. A transparent electrode is formed on the flattening film, and an alignment film is formed on the transparent electrode.

To prevent this, a color filter is also formed on a non-display area of the transparent substrate. That is, originally, it is sufficient to form the color filter only in the display area where liquid crystal display is performed. However, since the color filter generally has a thickness of about 1.0 to 3.0 μm, a step corresponding to the thickness of the color filter is generated between a region where the color filter is formed and a region where the color filter is not formed. This step has caused the gap between the two transparent substrates to be non-uniform, thereby deteriorating the quality of the liquid crystal display. For this reason, conventionally, a color filter has been formed also on a non-display area where liquid crystal display is not performed.

Is, for example, the color filter substrate 2 and the counter substrate 11
Before the laminating step, it can be disposed by spraying in two stages. That is, in this case, first, a mother substrate (not shown) for forming the plurality of color filter substrates 2 is prepared, and the plurality of color filter substrates 2 are formed on the plurality of color filter substrate forming regions of the mother substrate. However, at this stage, each color filter substrate 2 is in an uncut state that has not been individually cut. Then, as a first step, in a state where a shielding plate such as a metal mask is disposed above the substrate located in each display area 4, the spacer 15 having a large outer diameter, that is, a particle diameter is dropped on the mother substrate by, for example, a natural fall. Spray using. Thereby, the spacers 15 are scattered on the non-display area 7. Next, as a second step, the spacers 14 having a small particle size are scattered on the mother substrate in a state where the shielding plate is removed from each display area 4. Thus, the spacers 14 are scattered on the display area 4. At this time, the spacers 14 having a small particle diameter are also scattered in the non-display area 7. However, since the spacers 15 having a large particle diameter are scattered in the non-display area 7, the gap 14 is affected. I will not give.

Therefore, the light is not transmitted by the color filter 5 on the non-display area 7 as in the related art, and the black mask 6 does not transmit the light.
Can be effectively shielded from light. For this reason, the quality of the liquid crystal display is improved. Furthermore, since the wiring of the transparent electrode 9 on the non-display area 7 can be formed in various modes, the degree of freedom in design can be improved.

Is disposed below the sealing material 12, so that no light is transmitted from the sealing material 12, so that the non-display area 7 can be reliably shielded and the non-display area 7 can be reduced. Thus, the area effective for display can be enlarged.

Is formed smaller than the outer diameter of the spacer 15 corresponding to the non-display area 7.
For this reason, the step can be compensated for by the spacers 14 and 15 having different outer diameters without forming the color filter 5 for eliminating the step in the non-display area 7 as in the related art, and the gap between the two transparent substrates 3 is provided. Can be made uniform.

The space between the two transparent substrates 3 can be made uniform. Further, since the color filter 5 is not formed in the non-display area 7, the degree of freedom in wiring the transparent electrode 9 to the non-display area 7 can be improved. Further, by forming the black mask 6 on the non-display area 7 entirely without providing an opening, the non-display area 7 can be more effectively shielded from light. Further, by using the liquid crystal 16 as the STN liquid crystal, a large-capacity liquid crystal display can be performed.

However, the thickness of the black mask 6 in the non-display area 7 may be thicker. In this case, the spacers on the black mask 6 in the display area 4 can be easily crushed by dispersing the soft spacers in the display area 4, and the distance between the transparent bases 3 can be made uniform.

At a position, a counter substrate formed by forming at least a transparent electrode on a transparent substrate is provided, and the color filter substrate and the counter substrate are bonded to each other with a predetermined gap therebetween through a frame-shaped sealing material, In a color liquid crystal display panel in which spacers for maintaining a gap are dispersed and liquid crystal is injected, the color filters are arranged in front of a transparent base material. And a black mask is formed on the non-display area outside the display area, and a difference in film thickness between the black mask on the non-display area and the color filter on the display area is formed. A color liquid crystal display panel wherein an outer diameter of a spacer in a gap corresponding to the display area is different from an outer diameter of a spacer in a gap corresponding to the non-display area by an appropriate size.
