Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily work patterns of shallow grooves even on the surface of a heavy, long or bent rod with high accuracy by susbjecting the surface of the metallic rod to dissolving by etching in place of machining at the time of working patterned grooves on the surface of a metallic rod. CONSTITUTION:A photoresist film 2 is applied on the surface of, for example, the rod 1 and the parts of codes 4 exclusive of parts 3 of the necessary patterns are cured by exposing. This rod is washed to wash away the nonphotosensitive films 3 to the state like parts 5. The parts 5 are then chemically polished to obtain the desired shallow grooves 6. The extremely shallow patterns or grooves are formed with high accuracy on the surface of the heavy, long or bent rod with which the formation of such patterns by machining is heretofore difficult.
