Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 [産業上の利用分野1 本発明は、液体インク滴を飛翔させ、記録紙等の媒体上
にインク像を形成するインクジェット方式のプリンタの
ヘッドに関する。
[従来の技術1 一般に、インク液中に圧力発生手段を配した構成のイン
クジェットヘッドは、気泡による故障が少ないという利
点を有する。この従来例としては、特公昭60−895
3等がある。
[発明が解決しようとする課題 1 」二記構成においては、ノズル板と圧力発生手段の間隔
は、吐出特性上、微少間隔を正確に保つことが必要であ
る。しかし、従来例においては、片持ち梁構造をとるた
め、先端が不揃いとなりやすい。また、圧電素子がイン
ク液中にあるため、完全な絶縁処理を施さなければ、水
性インクのような導電性インクの使用ができない。とい
った問題点を有していた。
本発明の目的は上記問題点を解決して、ノズル板と圧力
発生手段の微少間隔を正確に保ち、がっ、導電性インク
の使用も可能なインクジェットヘッドを提供することに
ある。
[課題を解決するための手段 1 本発明のインクジェットヘッドは、複数のノズルを有す
るノズル板と、前記ノズルに各々対向する薄板部材から
なる押圧板と、前記押圧板の少なくとも一端に接合され
た圧電素子とからなり、押圧板の周囲をインクで満たし
、圧電素子の伸縮により押圧板を変形させ、ノズル板と
押圧板とで囲まれた領域に体積変化を起こし、ノズルか
らインク滴を吐出することを特徴とする。
[実施例1 次に実施例を図面に基づいて詳細に説明する。
第1図は本発明の一実施例を示すインクジェットヘッド
の主要構成図、第2図は同ヘッドの動作図である。これ
らの図において、 1は複数のノズル2を有するノズル
板である。ノズル板1はニッケルの電鋳加工にて製造さ
れている。3はステンレス製薄板部材からなる押圧板で
ある。押圧板3は、各ノズルに対応して、一端をノズル
板1に(第1図波線a)、他端を圧電素子6に(第1図
波MC)それぞれ接合し、並設されている。押圧板3は
、ノズル2に対向する部分がノズル2より遠ざかるよう
に屈曲しく第1図波線b)、圧電素子6に至る手前を、
接着剤5でノズル板1に固定されている。4はスリット
で、ここからインク21がノズル2へ供給される。接着
剤5は、硬化後も弾性を失わず、裏蓋11とノズル板1
のシールも兼ねている。圧電素子6は二面を電極とし、
その−面の一端を押圧板3に(第1図波線C)、他面の
他端部(第1図斜線6a)をベース材7に、電気的接続
をとりながら接合されている。ベース材7は、セラミッ
ク製で、その上面に電極パターン7aが施されている。
圧電素子6に電界を与えるべく、外部回路から配線され
たフレキシブル基板8の接続部8aがこの電極パターン
7aに接続されている。ベース材7は、ノズル板1との
相対位置を変えぬよう、両端をノズル板1に固着してい
る。裏illは、第1図矢印(イ)で示すように、ノズ
ル板1に密着し、内部をインク21で満たす。裏蓋11
には、インクを供給するインク供給管12と、気泡を逃
がす通気口13が設けられている。
次にインク滴吐出動作について、第2図に従つて説明す
る。待機時は、 (1)に示すように、周囲をインク2
1で満たされた押圧板3はノズル板1から離れている。
インク滴吐出はまず、フレキシブル基板8を通じ圧電素
子6に電界を印加する。
これにより、一端をベース材7に固定されている圧電素
子6は、 (2)に示すように、矢印(ロ)方向へ収縮
する。この収縮により押圧板3も矢印(ロ)方向へ引っ
張られる。すると、押圧板3は、同図中波線で示した待
機時の状態から、同図中実線で示したようにノズル板1
に近づく。圧電素子6は応答性が良く、上記動作は瞬時
に行われる。
この押圧板3の動作により排除されたインク21は、ノ
ズル2からインク滴22となって吐出する。
圧電素子6の電界を解除すると、 (3)に示すように
、圧電素子6は矢印(ハ)方向へ伸長し、押圧板3も同
図中波線で示した状態から実線で示した状態(ノズル板
1から遠ざかる)に変形する。
即ち、 (1)の状態に戻る。この時、第1図に示すス
リット4からインク21がこの隙間に供給される。以上
の動作を、各ノズル2ごとに、記録信号に応じて繰り返
す。尚、実際の圧電素子6の伸縮量は微少なため、押圧
板3のスライドは、接着剤5の弾性変形に許容され、接
着剤5の剥離や、インク21の漏れ等の心配はない。又
、スリット4により、隣接する押圧板3の動作が互いに
干渉しあうのも防止される。
次に、記録動作を第3図に従って説明する。第3図は本
発明のインクジェットヘッドを搭載したプリンタの斜視
図である。同図において、紙案内34に沿って供給され
た記録紙31は、紙送りローラ32と紙押えローラ33
とで挟持される。35は、紙送りローラ32の一端に固
着された減速歯車36を駆動する紙送りモータである。
キャリッジ41上に、第1図に示したインクジェットヘ
ッドが取り付けられている。更にキャリッジ41上には
、二点鎖線で示すようにインクタンクも搭載され、イン
ク供給管12が接続している。フレキシブル基板8は、
外部回路と、コネクタ9を介して接続されている。46
は、ベルト42を介して、キャリッジ41をガイド軸4
3に沿って往復させるキャリッジモータ、45はプーリ
である。
記録は、まず、キャリッジ41の移動に合わせてインク
滴を吐出し、記録紙31に一列の記録を行う。継いで、
記録紙31を所定1送る。以下、上記動作を繰り返すこ
とにより所望の記録を得る。
第4図、第5図は本発明のインクジェットヘッドの他の
実施例を示す主要構成図である。第4図は、圧電素子6
を押圧板3の両端に配し、押圧板3の変形量を増したも
のである。動作については上述の説明と同様であるため
省略する。
第5図は電界を加えると伸長する圧電素子6を用いたも
ので、第6図に従いその動作を説明する。
同図において、待機時は、 (1)に示すように、周囲
をインク21で満たされた押圧板3はノズル板1近傍に
ある。インク滴吐出はまず、フレキシブル基板8を通じ
圧電素子6に電界を印加する。
これにより、一端をベース材7に固定されている圧電素
子6は、 (2)に示すように、矢印(ニ)方向へ伸長
する。この伸長により押圧板3も矢印(ニ)方向へ押さ
れる。すると、押圧板3は、同図中波線で示した待機時
の状態がら、同図中実線で示したように屈曲する。この
押圧板3の屈曲により生じた空隙に、第5図のスリット
4からインク21が浸入する。次に、圧電素子6の電界
を解除すると、 (3)に示すように、圧電素子6は矢
印(ホ)方向へ収縮し、押圧板3も同図中波線で示した
状態から実線で示した状態(ノズル板1に近づく)にな
る。即ち、 (1)の状態に戻る。この時(2)の状態
の時に浸入したインク21は排除され、インク滴22と
なってノズル2より吐出する。以下、記録動作について
は前述の説明と同様であり省略する。
[発明の効果1 以上述べたように本発明は、インク液中の押圧板を圧電
素子で変形させるという極めて簡素な構成であり、その
製造も確実かつ容易である。また、圧電素子をインク液
中に入れる必要もないため、水性インク等の導電性イン
クの使用も可能である。

Claims (1)

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 複数のノズルを有するノズル板と、前記ノズルに各々対
    向する薄板部材からなる押圧板と、前記押圧板の少なく
    とも一端に接合された圧電素子とからなり、押圧板の周
    囲をインクで満たし、圧電素子の伸縮により押圧板を変
    形させ、ノズル板と押圧板とで囲まれた領域に体積変化
    を起こし、ノズルからインク滴を吐出することを特徴と
    するインクジェットヘッド。
