Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the working environment and to increase the liquid service life through a reduction in the biodegradability, by incorporating a particular amine derivative in a water-soluble cutting oil. CONSTITUTION:A water-soluble cutting oil comprises an amine derivative of the formula, wherein R is an 8-18C alkyl or alkenyl, R' is a propylene group; m is 0 or 1-4; x, y, and z are each 0 or 1-10; and x+y+z is 1-10. Examples of the amine as a starting material of the amine compd. used include 2- ethylhexylamine and n-octylamine when R is an alkyl group; and oleyltetraethylenepentamine when R is an alkenyl group. The concn. of the amine derivative in the cutting oil is pref. 0.001-1wt.%. When the concn. is 0.001% or less, no effect is attained. On the other hand, a concn. exceeding 1wt.% is uneconomical because no improvement in the effect can be attained. This amine derivative has a combination of antiseptic property and rust preventive performance with a defoaming effect.

Further, the concentration used is usually diluted with water to about 1-10%. The requirements for water cutting are, of course, cutting performance, but also auxiliary properties (rust prevention of cut objects and machine tools), antiseptic properties (prevention of bad odors due to rot), safety for the human body, and low foaming. properties, paint peeling resistance, etc. are required. In particular, various troubles due to rot have occurred, and there is a strong need for an oil agent that can solve these problems. Problems caused by spoilage include deterioration of the working environment due to bad odors and shortening of the lifespan of oils due to accelerated aging. In contrast, in the past, preservatives temporarily suppressed the growth of microorganisms, which was not sustainable, and the oil solution had to be managed by frequently adding preservatives to the liquid used.
