溶融固化後のガラス組成が、表1~3に示される実施例1~12又は、比較例1~6の各ガラス繊維用ガラス組成物の組成となるように、ガラス原料を混合し、ガラスバッチを得た。次に、前記各ガラスバッチについて、後述の評価方法により結晶化の評価を行った。結果を表1~3に示す。
ガラスバッチを、80mm径の白金ルツボに入れ、1650℃の温度のマッフル炉で6時間加熱して溶融し、溶融ガラスとした後、該白金ルツボを該マッフル炉から取り出し、室温まで空冷する。前記溶融ガラスが固化するまでの時間内に、ガラスの表面または内部に結晶の析出が見られなかったものを「〇」、結晶の析出が目視できるものを「×」と評価する。
円板状に加工した試験片を、黒色の板と白色の板との境界上に静置し、該試験片の上面から、該試験片を通して、黒色の板と白色の板との境界面を観察する。前記試験片内に白濁(分相)が見られず、該境界面が明確に観察できる場合を「〇」、該試験片内に白濁が見られ、該境界面が明確に観察できない場合を「×」と評価する。
試験片を、切削加工機、例えばダイヤモンドカッターと研磨機とを用いて、50mm×50mm×5mmの試験片に加工し、JIS R 1602:1995に従って超音波パルス法にて弾性率を測定する。
ガラスカレットを粉砕し、粒径0.5~1.5mmの範囲のガラス粒子とし、該ガラス粒子40gを180mm×20mm×15mmの白金製ボートに入れ、1000~1550℃の温度勾配を設けた管状電気炉で8時間以上加熱した後、該管状電気炉から取り出し、偏光顕微鏡で観察して、ガラス由来の結晶(失透)が析出し始めた位置を特定する。次に、前記管状電気炉内の温度をB熱電対を用いて実測し、前記結晶が析出し始めた位置の温度を求めて液相温度とする。
試験片を、切削加工機、例えばダイヤモンドカッターと研磨機とを用いて、4mm×4mm×20mmの試験片に加工する。次に、得られた試験片を昇温速度10℃/分で加熱し、50~200℃の範囲の温度で、熱膨張率測定装置(NETZSCH社製、商品名:DIL402)を用いて伸び量を測定し、該伸び量から線膨張係数を算出することで、ガラス繊維用ガラス組成物の線膨張係数を測定する。

- ガラス繊維用ガラス組成物であって、
全量に対し、50.0~70.0質量%の範囲のSiO2と、
10.0~30.0質量%の範囲のAl2O3と、
8.0~25.0質量%の範囲のZnOと、
0.0~8.0質量%の範囲のMgOと、
0.0~5.0質量%の範囲のCaOと、
0.0~8.0質量%の範囲のP2O5と、
0.0~2.5質量%の範囲のTiO2と、
合計で0.0質量%以上1.0質量%未満の範囲のLi2O、Na2OおよびK2Oとを含み、
前記SiO2の含有率をS、前記Al2O3の含有率をA、前記ZnOの含有率をZ、前記MgOの含有率をM、前記CaOの含有率をC、前記P2O5の含有率をPとするときに、
前記ZnOの含有率に対する、前記CaOおよび前記MgOの合計含有率の比((M+C)/Z)が、0.46以下であり、
前記S、AおよびPが下記式(1-1)を満たすことを特徴とする、ガラス繊維用ガラス組成物。
