以降で、添付の図面を参照しながら、本発明の実施形態を詳細に説明する。
炭素(C)は、合金鋼においていくつかの機能を有する。特に、溶解温度からの冷却によるマルテンサイトの形成を通して好適な硬度を得るために、マトリックス中に一定量の炭素が必要である。炭素の量は、析出硬化が炭化物の形成により達成できるように、炭素と、一方ではモリブデン/タングステン、他方ではバナジウム/ニオビウムとの組み合わせに対し、十分でなければならない。炭化物は摩耗に対する耐性を与え、さらに粒成長も制限し、それにより、合金鋼の微粒子構造に寄与する。したがって、鋼中の炭素含有量は、少なくとも0.4重量%、好ましくは少なくとも0.6重量%、適切には少なくとも0.7重量%であるべきである。しかし、炭素含有量は脆性を引き起こすほど高くてはいけない。したがって、炭素含有量は、1.2重量%を越えるべきでなく、好ましくは0.90重量%を越えるべきではない。

Mn: 0.1~1.0重量%、
Cr: 3.0~6.0重量%、
Mo: 0~4.0重量%、
W: 0~8.0重量%、3.5重量%≦(Mo+W/2)≦8.0重量%、
Nb: 0~4.0重量%、
V: 0~4.0重量%、1.0重量%<(Nb+V)<4.0重量%、
Co: 27~33重量%、
S: 最大0.30重量%、
N: 最大0.30重量%、
を含み、残部がFeおよび1.0重量%未満の不可避の不純物である、合金鋼。 - 28~30重量%のCoを含む、請求項1に記載の合金鋼。
- 0.60~0.90重量%のCを含む、請求項1又は2に記載の合金鋼。
- 0.30~1.1重量%のSiを含む、請求項1~3のいずれか1項に記載の合金鋼。
- 3.5~5.0重量%のCrを含む、請求項1~4のいずれか1項に記載の合金鋼。
- 0.10~0.50重量%のMnを含む、請求項1~5のいずれか1項に記載の合金鋼。
- 2.0~4.0重量%のMoおよび2.0~4.0重量%のWを含む、請求項1~6のいずれか1項に記載の合金鋼。
- 0.90~1.3重量%のNbおよび0.90~1.3重量%のVを含む、請求項1~7のいずれか1項に記載の合金鋼。
- 最大で0.080重量%のSを含む、請求項1~8のいずれか1項に記載の合金鋼。
- 粉末冶金合金鋼である、請求項1~9のいずれか1項に記載の合金鋼。
- 請求項1~10のいずれか1項に記載の合金鋼を含む工具。
- 切屑除去機械加工用に構成された切削工具である、請求項11に記載の工具。
- 物理蒸着または化学蒸着を用いて適用されるコーティングを有する、請求項11または12に記載の工具。
