前記アクティブ駆動型液晶表示素子の裏面側に積層配置され、液晶層を挟んで対向配置された、共通電位に接続されるコモン電極と設定電位に接続されてセグメント形状を表示するセグメント表示電極とを有するパッシブ駆動型液晶表示素子と、
前記アクティブ駆動型液晶表示素子の表面側に配置された表面側偏光子と、
前記パッシブ駆動型液晶表示素子の裏面側に配置され、前記表面側偏光子と直交配置された裏面側偏光子と、
前記裏面側偏光子の裏面側に配置されたバックライトと、
前記アクティブ駆動型液晶表示素子の各副画素に印加する電圧を制御する第1制御部と、前記パッシブ駆動型液晶表示素子の各セグメント表示電極とコモン電極間に印加する電圧を制御する第2制御部とを含む制御回路と、

前記セグメント表示が行われる時に、前記アクティブ駆動型液晶表示素子において駆動される画素は、前記セグメント電極の境界の外側領域に含まれる画素と前記セグメント表示電極の境界を跨ぐ画素である、
液晶表示装置。 - 前記セグメント表示が行われる時に、前記セグメント電極の境界を跨ぐ画素は中間調表示に制御される請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記アクティブ駆動型液晶表示素子の液晶層と、前記パッシブ駆動型液晶表示素子の液晶層とは、共にツイステッドネマチック液晶層であり、ねじれ方向が逆方向である、請求項1〜2のいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記アクティブ駆動型液晶表示素子の液晶層の厚さ方向中央の分子配向方位と、前記パッシブ駆動型液晶表示素子の厚さ方向中央の分子配向方位とは、直交する、請求項3に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記アクティブ駆動型液晶表示素子と前記パッシブ駆動型液晶表示素子の一方はインプレーンスイッチング型の液晶素子で形成され、他方は垂直配向型の液晶素子で形成されている、請求項1〜2のいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記インプレーンスイッチング型の液晶素子の電圧印加時の液晶分子の配向方向と前記垂直配向型の液晶表示素子の配向方向とは交差する、請求項5に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記アクティブ駆動型液晶表示素子と前記パッシブ駆動型液晶表示素子は共に垂直配向型の液晶素子であり、配向方向が交差する方向である、請求項1〜2のいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。
