試験は30歳代〜50歳代の健常な日本人男女計70名を被験者とした。BMIが22以上30未満の者を対象とした。体重減少の治療を受けている者、ハーブ薬を含む医薬品を服用中の者、妊娠・授乳・妊娠を計画している者、その他、医師が適さないと認めた者は除外した。ランダムに7人ずつ選択し、10グループに分けた。その10グループに表2に示した10種類の外用剤をそれぞれ使用させた。使用期間は12週間で、被験者は、各グループとも毎日1回、入浴後に、実施例に記した外用剤を手のひらに2g取り、マッサージしながら塗擦して、これを3ヶ月間続けた。試験開始前と試験終了後とで試験対象者のウエスト及びヒップの寸法を測定し、各グループの7名のウエスト変化及びヒップ変化の平均値を算出して評価した。なお、被験者には、上述のとおり外用剤を毎日、定時に使用することを除いて、それまでの食生活、喫煙量及び運動などの日常生活を変えることのない様にした。なお、試験期間中、体調の異常を訴えたものはいなかった。
