Description
前記基板より屈折率の大きな材料から構成されその断面が直角三角形の楔型基板が2枚とからなり、
前記スイッチング液晶位相パネルを前記複屈折軸が前記面内で回転している軸と前記断面が直角三角形の楔型基板の斜辺とが互いに垂直なるように前記2枚の楔型基板の斜面で互い違いに挟むように張り合わせ、
一方の楔型基板の端面(前記スイッチング液晶位相パネルの偏光グレーティングプレートの反対側、入射面と呼ぶ)から入射した入射光が、他方の楔型基板の前記端面と平行な端面(出射面と呼ぶ)から出射し得ることを特徴とする光スイッチングエンジン。
本発明の基本構成であり、以下の実施例1に記載の光スイッチングエンジンの態様である。

Claims (9)
- 紫外線から使用波長帯の光波長領域で透明な基板の少なくとも一方の表面に所望の光波長領域で透明な薄膜電極を形成した基板を2枚用い、その薄膜電極が所望のギャップで平行電極となるように対向するように対峙させてその間にポリマー安定化ブルー相液晶を挿入して光を照射して安定化させた平行平板液晶パネルに、使用波長で半波長プレートとなる厚さの複屈折率媒体(ダイレクターと呼ぶ)の複屈折軸が面内である周期Λで回転している偏光グレーティングプレートを前記平行平板液晶パネルの出射面に張り合わせて構成した積層体1枚からなる、または同方向に数枚重ねたスイッチング液晶位相パネルと、
前記基板より屈折率の大きな材料から構成されその断面が直角三角形の楔型基板が2枚とからなり、
前記スイッチング液晶位相パネルを前記複屈折軸が前記面内で回転している軸と前記断面が直角三角形の楔型基板の斜辺とが互いに垂直なるように前記2枚の楔型基板の斜面で互い違いに挟むように張り合わせ、
一方の楔型基板の端面(前記スイッチング液晶位相パネルの偏光グレーティングプレートの反対側、入射面と呼ぶ)から入射した入射光が、他方の楔型基板の前記端面と平行な端面(出射面と呼ぶ)から所望の偏光をして出射し得ることを特徴とする光スイッチングエンジン。 - 前記偏光グレーティングプレートは、厚さ方向にも前記ダイレクターの複屈折軸が回転しているカイラル構造であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の光スイッチングエンジン。
- 前記一方の楔型基板の端面から光を入射した場合において、前記対向する薄膜電極に電圧を印加しない時はほぼアイソトロピックな媒体として動作し、電圧を印加した時は前記使用波長において前記半波長プレートとして動作することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の光スイッチングエンジン。
- 前記基板がSiO2を主成分としたガラスあるいはSi基板であることを特徴とする請求項1乃至請求項2のいずれか1項に記載の光スイッチングエンジン。
- 前記楔型基板がシリコンから構成されていることを特徴とする請求項1乃至請求項4のいずれか1項に記載の光スイッチングエンジン。
- 前記楔型基板の前記斜面、および、前記入射面または前記出射面に隣り合う材料の屈折率に対して無反射となるような無反射コートが形成されていることを特徴とする請求項1乃至請求項5のいずれか1項に記載の光スイッチングエンジン。
- 請求項1乃至請求項6のいずれか1項に記載の光スイッチングエンジンを2段に用い、前段の光スイッチングエンジンの出射面と後段の光スイッチングエンジンの入射面をそれぞれが90°回転させて張り合わせたことを特徴とする2重化された光スイッチングエンジン。
- 請求項7に記載の光スイッチングエンジンにおいて、前記スイッチング液晶位相パネルの当該平行平板液晶パネルが2つ以上の領域にセグメント化されて、そのセグメントに対して異なった前記周期Λのセグメントからなる偏光グレーティングプレートが構成されており、前記セグメントに入射した入射光は独立して前記偏光グレーティングプレートから偏向されて出射され得ることを特徴とする多重セグメント化された光スイッチングエンジン。
- 請求項7または請求項8いずれか1項に記載の光スイッチングエンジンにおいて、その周囲をペルツエ素子により所望の温度となるように制御したことを特徴とする光スイッチングエンジン。
