Description
[0001]本出願は、その内容が参照により本明細書に組み入れられる、2014年5月6日付けで出願された「ポリアクリル酸で架橋されたセルロース繊維における低減されたフルフラール含量(REDUCED FURFURAL CONTENT IN POLYACRYLIC ACID CROSSLINKED CELLULOSE FIBERS)」という表題の米国非仮特許出願第14/271,146号に基づく優先権を受ける権利を有し、その利益を主張する。
[0027]上述したように、「焦げた」臭いは、具体的にはクエン酸で架橋されたセルロース系繊維の特徴とみなされているが、悪臭はまた、ポリアクリル酸などの高分子ポリカルボン酸で架橋されたセルロース系繊維にも付随することも同様に知られるようになってきた。
[0049]以下の実施例は、ポリアクリル酸で架橋されたセルロース系繊維を、架橋繊維中のフルフラールの量(およびそれに付随する悪臭)を低減するのに有効な量の過酸化水素で後続処理する例示的な非限定的な実施態様および方法を説明する。
[0051] サザンパインのクラフトパルプ繊維(CF416、ウェアーハウザー社)をポリアクリル酸(Aquaset 1676、Dow)で処理することによって、ポリアクリル酸で架橋されたセルロース繊維のサンプルを実験室スケールで製造した。全てのサンプルを標準的な架橋溶液で処理し、193℃(380°F)で5分間硬化した。硬化した繊維を、蒸留水(対照として)または漂白剤の過酸化水素(H2O2)を含有する水のいずれかで、繊維1ADMTあたり2.5、5.0、7.5、および10.0lb(それぞれ1.13、2.27、3.40、および4.54kg/ADMT)の濃度で再度湿潤化した。蒸留水のpHは4.46であり、それぞれのH2O2溶液のpHは4.93、4.72、4.80、および4.65であった。

[6] フルフラールの低減が、未処理のポリアクリル酸で架橋されたセルロース系繊維と比較して、少なくとも55%である、[1]に記載の方法。
[7] ポリアクリル酸で架橋された繊維中のフルフラールの存在に関連する悪臭を低減させる方法であって、該架橋繊維の硬化に続いて、アルカリ化剤の非存在下において該架橋繊維に過酸化水素を適用することを含み、それによって該架橋繊維のフルフラール含量を少なくとも約55%低減させる、上記方法。
[8] 過酸化水素の適用後の21日まで、前記架橋繊維をエイジングさせることをさらに含む、[7]に記載の方法。
[9] 過酸化水素が、約4.5から5の間のpHで前記架橋繊維に適用される、[7]に記載の方法。
Claims (9)
- ポリアクリル酸で架橋されたセルロース系繊維のフルフラール含量を低減させる方法であって、
硬化段階に続く漂白段階において、ポリアクリル酸で架橋されたセルロース系繊維に対して、水酸化ナトリウムの非存在下で過酸化水素単独を、繊維1ADMTあたり0.1〜20ポンド(0.045〜9.07kg)の量にて、4.5〜5のpHで適用することを含み、
ここで、処理された架橋繊維中のフルフラールの量が、架橋繊維を処理してから1日後に測定した第1の値から、処理してから12日後、14日後または21日後に測定した第2の後続の値に低減される、上記方法。 - 過酸化水素が、繊維1ADMTあたり3.0〜10ポンド(1.36〜4.54kg)の量で前記繊維に適用される、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 過酸化水素が、繊維1ADMTあたり5ポンド(2.27kg)の量で前記繊維に適用される、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記架橋繊維を含有する空気ストリームに過酸化水素単独を噴霧することによって、過酸化水素が適用される、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 第1の値から第2の値へのフルフラールの低減が25%以上である、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 未処理のポリアクリル酸で架橋されたセルロース系繊維と比較して、処理後12日の時点で、フルフラールが55%以上低減される、請求項1に記載の方法。
- ポリアクリル酸で架橋された繊維中のフルフラールの存在に関連する悪臭を低減させる方法であって、
該架橋繊維の硬化に続いて、アルカリ化剤の非存在下において該架橋繊維に過酸化水素を適用することを含み、ポリアクリル酸で架橋された架橋繊維のフルフラール含量が、過酸化水素の適用後12日の時点で、硬化後に過酸化水素で処理していない架橋繊維のフルフラール含量と比較して、55%以上低減される、上記方法。 - 過酸化水素の適用後の21日まで、前記架橋繊維をエイジングさせることをさらに含む、請求項7に記載の方法。
- 過酸化水素が、4.5〜5のpHで前記架橋繊維に適用される、請求項7に記載の方法。
