Description
<排気浄化装置の構成>
まず、本実施形態の内燃機関の排気浄化装置の構成を説明する。本実施形態の排気浄化装置は、排気タービン式の過給機を備える車載用のディーゼル機関に適用される。
次に、上記排気浄化装置に設けられた触媒装置30について詳細に説明する。触媒装置30は、排気が流通する排気流路を含む基体を備え、排気流路の表面には、触媒担体が担持されている。
まず、触媒装置30において実施可能な第1のNOx浄化方法について説明する。
図3に、第1のNOx浄化方法でNOxを浄化するときの燃料添加弁29による排気への未燃燃料の添加パターンと、その添加により生じる排気空燃比AFIの変化とを示す。同図に示すように、このときには、燃料添加弁29により、一定の周期毎に一定量の未燃燃料の添加が行われ、それにより、排気空燃比AFIが、ひいては触媒装置30に流入する排気のHC濃度が、一定の振幅及び一定の周期で振動されている。こうした排気のHC濃度の振動を、規定範囲内の振幅及び規定範囲内の周期で行うことで、図4に示すように、400℃以上の高温領域においても極めて高いNOx浄化率が得られることが確認されている。
続いて、触媒装置30において実施可能な第2のNOx浄化方法について説明する。
図14は、触媒装置30に流入する排気のHC濃度の振動周期を、すなわち燃料添加弁29による排気への未燃燃料添加の周期を、上述の規定範囲(0.3秒から5秒の範囲)よりも長くしたときの触媒担体40の表面部分の状態を図解的に示している。同図に示すように、こうした場合、還元性中間体であるR−NCOやR−NH2が触媒装置30の塩基性層43の表面上から消滅してしまう。一方、このときの触媒粒子41上にて生成された活性NO2 *は、硝酸イオンNO3 −のかたちで塩基性層43内に拡散し、硝酸塩となる。すなわち、このときの排気中のNOxは硝酸塩のかたちで塩基性層43内に吸収される。
ところで、触媒装置30の塩基性層43には、排気中の硫黄酸化物(SOx)が硫酸塩のかたちで吸蔵される場合がある。こうした塩基性層43のSOxの吸蔵はまず、触媒装置30における上流側の端の部分より始まる。そして、SOxの吸蔵量が増大した部分では、塩基性層43の塩基性が弱まるようになる。そのため、SOxの吸蔵が進行すると、触媒装置30における上流側の端部では、触媒粒子41の酸化能力がその周囲の塩基性層43の塩基性の弱まりに応じて増大する。また、これとともに、触媒装置30内においてNOxの還元が主に行われる場所が下流側に移動することになる。こうした場合の触媒装置30では、触媒粒子41の酸化能力が増大した上流側の端の部分において炭化水素の多くが酸化されてしまうため、NOxの還元が主に行われる場所に到達する炭化水素の量が減少するようになる。そしてその結果、触媒装置30のNOx還元能力の低下が、いわゆる触媒装置30の硫黄被毒が生じるようになる。
(作用)
次に、以上のように構成された本実施形態の内燃機関の排気浄化装置の作用を説明する。
(1)本実施形態では、燃料噴射弁19によるポスト噴射の実行を通じて昇温処理を行いつつ、昇温処理と放出処理とを交互に繰り返す第1制御モードでの制御と、還元性中間体を生成可能な規定範囲内の振幅及び規定範囲内の周期で触媒装置30に流入する排気のHC濃度を振動させるように燃料添加弁29の未燃燃料添加を実行することで昇温処理を行いつつ、昇温処理と放出処理とを交互に繰り返す第2制御モードでの制御と、を通じて被毒再生制御を行っている。そして、被毒再生制御の開始から終了までの期間における第1制御モードでの制御が行われた後の期間に第2制御モードでの制御を実施している。そのため、被毒再生制御中のNOxの排出を抑えつつ、硫黄被毒により低下した触媒装置30のNOx浄化能力を好適に回復することができる。
・上記実施形態では、燃料噴射弁19による燃料噴射の量を一時的に増量するリッチスパイクを一定の時間間隔を空けて繰り返し行うことで放出処理を実施していたが、燃料添加弁29による未燃燃料の添加により排気空燃比AFIを間欠的、又は継続的に低くすることで放出処理を実施するようにしてもよい。また、燃料噴射弁19による燃料噴射の量を継続的に増量して、ベース空燃比AFBを理論空燃比又は理論空燃比よりも低い値に保持することで、放出処理を実施することも可能である。
Claims (2)
- 燃焼行程後の気筒内への燃料のポスト噴射を実行可能な燃料噴射弁と、前記気筒から排出された排気が流れる排気通路に設けられて排気中に未燃燃料を添加する燃料添加弁と、前記排気通路における前記燃料添加弁よりも下流側の部分に設けられて、排気中の窒素酸化物と改質された炭化水素との反応により前記窒素酸化物を還元する触媒装置と、前記触媒装置の硫黄吸蔵量が規定の開始判定値以上のときに被毒再生制御を開始するとともに、その被毒再生制御において、前記触媒装置に吸蔵された硫黄の放出に必要な温度まで同触媒装置を昇温させる昇温処理と、前記気筒で燃焼される混合気の空燃比を前記触媒装置に吸蔵された硫黄の放出に必要な値とする放出処理とを交互に繰り返し実施する被毒再生制御部と、を備える内燃機関の排気浄化装置において、
前記触媒装置は、排気との接触表面に貴金属触媒が担持され、且つ前記貴金属触媒の周囲に塩基性の排気接触表面部分が形成されるとともに、同触媒装置に流入する排気の炭化水素濃度を規定範囲内の振幅、及び前記内燃機関のアイドル運転時における前記排気の前記排気通路への流入周期よりも長い規定範囲内の周期でもって振動させることで排気中の窒素酸化物を還元する性質と、同排気の炭化水素濃度の振動周期を前記規定範囲よりも長くすることで窒素酸化物の吸蔵量が増大する性質とを有したものであり、
前記被毒再生制御部は、前記燃料噴射弁によるポスト噴射の実行を通じて前記昇温処理を行いつつ同昇温処理と前記放出処理とを交互に繰り返す第1制御モードでの制御と、前記触媒装置に流入する排気の炭化水素濃度を前記規定範囲内の振幅及び前記規定範囲内の周期で振動させるように前記燃料添加弁の未燃燃料添加を実行することで前記昇温処理を行いつつ前記昇温処理と前記放出処理とを交互に繰り返す第2制御モードでの制御とを通じて前記被毒再生制御を行うとともに、前記被毒再生制御の開始から終了までの期間における前記第1制御モードでの制御が行われた後の期間に前記第2制御モードでの制御を実施する
ことを特徴とする内燃機関の排気浄化装置。 - 前記被毒再生制御部は、前記被毒再生制御中に、前記開始判定値よりも小さい値に設定された規定の切替判定値まで前記硫黄吸蔵量が低下したときに、前記第1制御モードでの制御から前記第2制御モードでの制御への切り替えを行う
