Description
以下、実施例を通じて、本発明についてより詳細に説明する。下記の実施例は本発明の理解のためのものであり、これによって本発明を限定するものではない。
(1)偏光フィルム(偏光子)の製造
ポリビニルアルコールフィルム(日本合成社製M2005 grade20μm)生地の両側端部に、補助支持台(前記ポリビニルアルコールフィルムと同じフィルムを使用)をPVA系水溶性接着剤(日本合成社、Z−200)を用いて付着させた後、40℃のオーブンで1分間乾燥させて、延伸フィルムを製造する。この時、ポリビニルアルコールフィルムの幅(Wo)および補助支持台の幅(W)は、下記の表1に記載された通りである。前記延伸フィルムを、ヨウ素0.15wt%染着液で20秒間染着した後、ホウ酸1wt%水溶液で約2倍程度延伸させる。以後、ホウ酸2wt%水溶液で最終的に6倍に延伸させ、KI5wt%水溶液で15秒間浸漬後、50℃のオーブンで3分間乾燥させて、偏光子を製造する。
ポリビニルアルコールフィルム(日本合成社製M2005 grade20μm)生地を、ヨウ素0.15wt%染着液で20秒間染着した後、ホウ酸1wt%水溶液で約2倍程度延伸させる。以後、ホウ酸2wt%水溶液で6倍に延伸させ、KI5wt%水溶液で15秒間浸漬後、50℃のオーブンで3分間乾燥させて、偏光子を製造する。
前記実施例1〜3および比較例1の延伸ステップにおいて、ポリビニルアルコール系フィルムが切れるまで延伸させ、切れた際の延伸比を最大延伸比として定義する。その結果は下記の表1に記載した。
前記実施例1〜3および比較例1の延伸ステップにおいて、ポリビニルアルコール系フィルムを6倍の延伸比で延伸して製造された偏光子の光特性を、JASCO V−7100 Spectrophotometerで測定し、その結果は下記の表1に記載した。一方、下記の表1において、単体透過度は単一偏光子の透過度を意味し、偏光度は2枚の偏光板を吸収軸が平行な状態で配置した場合に得られる平行透過率(Tp)と、吸収軸が90゜となるように互いに直交させた後に得られる直交透過率(Tc)とによって、下記の数式1で定義される。

Claims (9)
- 未延伸ポリビニルアルコール系フィルムの幅方向(TD)の両側端部に補助支持台を形成するステップと、
前記ポリビニルアルコール系フィルムの厚さが10μm以下となるように、前記補助支持台が形成されたポリビニルアルコール系フィルムを長手方向(MD)に湿式延伸するステップとを含む薄型偏光子の製造方法であって、
前記未延伸ポリビニルアルコール系フィルムの幅に対して、前記補助支持台の幅の比が0.06〜0.25であることを特徴とする、薄型偏光子の製造方法。 - 前記補助支持台は、ポリビニルアルコール系樹脂、ポリプロピレン樹脂、イソフタル酸を含むポリエチレンテレフタレート樹脂、水溶性セルロース樹脂、およびアクリル樹脂からなる群より選択された1種以上を含む高分子フィルムであることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の薄型偏光子の製造方法。
- 前記補助支持台は、ガラス転移温度が20℃〜80℃の高分子フィルムであることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の薄型偏光子の製造方法。
- 前記補助支持台は、未延伸ポリビニルアルコール系フィルムの幅方向(TD)の両側端部の上面および下面のうちの少なくともいずれか一面に形成されることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の薄型偏光子の製造方法。
- 前記補助支持台を形成するステップは、未延伸ポリビニルアルコール系フィルムの幅方向(TD)の両側端部に接着剤を介して前記補助支持台を付着させた後、乾燥するステップを含むことを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の薄型偏光子の製造方法。
- 前記補助支持台は、未延伸ポリビニルアルコール系フィルムの幅方向(TD)の両側端部を直接折り畳んで接着剤を介して付着させた後、乾燥したものであることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の薄型偏光子の製造方法。

- 前記補助支持台が形成されたポリビニルアルコール系フィルムを長手方向(MD)に湿式延伸するステップは、20℃〜85℃の温度で、4倍〜9倍の延伸倍率で行われることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の薄型偏光子の製造方法。
- 前記補助支持台が形成されたポリビニルアルコール系フィルムを長手方向(MD)に湿式延伸するステップの後に、前記補助支持台を前記ポリビニルアルコール系フィルムから分離するステップをさらに含むことを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の薄型偏光子の製造方法。
