Description
実施例A:操作モード
多くの配置が可能ではあるが、一実施形態では、20mmの外径で50μmの厚さの304ステンレス鋼製エジェクタプレートに結合された、6mmの外径で300μmの厚さのPEEKジェネレータプレートを含む、圧電駆動エジェクタ機構を使用する。エジェクタプレート環状体には、PEEKジェネレータプレートと連携して配置された4mmの径の中央開口が含まれ、16mmの外径、8mmの内径の圧電アクチュエータは、エジェクタプレートに直接取り付けられている。およそ108kHzから140kHzを超える変調周波数を圧電アクチュエータに印加し、これによって、エジェクタプレートが振動する。デジタルホログラフィック顕微鏡像を捕捉し、高弾性高分子ジェネレータプレートの振動を観察する。一例として、図5を参照すると、振動振幅に対する実施形態の吐出アセンブリの周波数スキャンを行い、最適な共振周波数の特定、及びジェネレータプレートの面変位のうちの最大変位が達成される周波数範囲が提供された。駆動周波数の関数としてのジェネレータプレートの面振動振幅のうち、60 Vpp(Volt peak to peak)の正弦波による励起を図5に示し、振動の最大振幅の開始は〜108kHzにあり、〜2.3ミクロンの最大振幅は110kHzにある。図5における振幅プロファイル上の重なりは、圧電アクチュエータを駆動するのに用いられる60 Vppの正弦波である。
エジェクタアセンブリの性能は、低粘性から、例えば、蒸留水(粘度1.017 cP)を使用して、高粘性までの、例えば、Restasis(登録商標)(動粘度18.08 cP)のようなシクロスポリンの眼科用エマルジョンなどの薬剤を使用して、流体粘度の範囲にわたって評価することができる。一例として、エジェクタアセンブリの性能は、作動周波数の関数としての流体質量吐出を分析することによって評価することができる。
本開示に係るエジェクタ機構の特定の実施形態において、ジェネレータプレートの開口のキャピラリ長さは、噴霧性能に影響を及ぼすと考えられる。図7A〜7Bに示すように、周波数に対する質量吐出は、120ミクロンのキャピラリチャネル長さのPEEK膜から吐出された水において、低い周波数まで周波数が変化することを示す。しかしながら、Restasis(登録商標)などの高粘性流体(動粘度18.08 cP)では、70ミクロンのキャピラリチャネル長さの膜に対して、120ミクロンのキャピラリチャネル長さのPEEK膜において、質量吐出ピークの有意な増加[2.5倍(2.5×)]がみられた。
本開示のエジェクタ機構の特定の実施形態において、ジェネレータプレートの固有モードは、励起時に、ジェネレータプレートの形状、及び発生した噴霧に影響を及ぼすと考えられる。図13は、類似するエジェクタ機構から捕捉したデジタルホログラフィー像と重ねた本開示のエジェクタ機構から吐出された噴霧を表す、高速画像フレームを示し、これは、140kHzにおける通常モードのジェネレータプレートの振動を示す。
流体に作用する力には、圧力勾配、摩擦力及び体積力が含まれる。このような力が流体に作用する大きさ及び時間は、例えば、流体入口径、流体出口径、キャピラリの長さ並びに材料特性(機械的、化学的及び表面トポグラフィ)を変化させることによって制御することができる。一例として、ジェネレータプレートの開口を通る流れのシミュレーションは、例えば、(水及びRestasis(登録商標)の粘度をそれぞれシミュレートするために)PEEK材料特性、及び1 Pa・s及び18 Pa・sの流体粘度を用いて、図14A〜14Bの開口設計(100μmの厚さのPEEK;40μmの径の出口オリフィス、及び240μmの径の入口オリフィス)に基づいて、モデル化することができる。
本試験の目的は、Restasis(登録商標)の粘度が剪断非依存性(ニュートン流体)であるか又は剪断依存性(非ニュートン流体)であるか否かを判断することであった。ニュートン流体では、流速に伴って直線的に圧力低下が増加し、測定粘度は、印加変形速度又は応力によって変化しない。しかしながら、非ニュートン流体又は複合流体は、ずり減粘又はずり増粘を示し、流速データに対する圧力低下は、ワイセンベルグ‐ラビノビッチ‐ムーニー(Weissenberg-Rabinowitch-Mooney)の方程式を用いて分析する必要がある。
本開示のエジェクタ機構の特定の実施形態において、キャピラリチャネルの幾何形状及び配置は、噴霧性能に影響を及ぼすと考えられる。図19A〜19Cは、流体抵抗がキャピラリ長さの関数として線形の関係を表すことを示す。
本開示のエジェクタ機構の特定の実施形態において、ポリマーの弾性率は、噴霧性能に影響を及ぼすと考えられる。図22A〜22Bは、未使用のPEEK及び20%タルク充填PEEKにおける363 kpsi(2502885kPa)から696 kpsi(4798920kPa)の引張弾性率の増加によって、100kHzから150kHzの励起周波数範囲において、性能が約2倍増加することを示す。このような噴霧性能の増加は、引張弾性率の増加に対応する。
Claims (12)
- 吐出された液滴流を発生する装置であって、該装置は、
ハウジングと、
一定容積の流体を収容するために該ハウジング内部に配置された貯蔵部と、
該貯蔵部と流体連通状態にあり、液滴流を吐出するように構成されたエジェクタ機構であって、前記貯蔵部の流体送出領域と流体連通状態にある第1の面と、高弾性高分子ジェネレータプレート及び圧電アクチュエータに連結された第2の面を有するエジェクタプレートを備えている、前記エジェクタ機構と、を備え、
該高弾性高分子ジェネレータプレートは、前記エジェクタプレートに連結され前記貯蔵部の流体送出領域と流体連通状態にある第1の流体入口面と、第2の流体出口面と、前記高弾性高分子ジェネレータプレートの厚さを貫通して形成された複数の開口を有し、前記開口の第2の流体出口面における開口径が、約20μm〜約100μmであって第1の流体入口面における開口径より小さく、
該圧電アクチュエータが、一定周波数で、該エジェクタプレートを振動させることで前記高弾性高分子ジェネレータプレートを振動させ、それにより、吐出された液滴流を発生させるように動作可能であり、
前記複数の開口のうちの1以上が、流体入口オリフィス、入口キャビティ、キャピラリチャネル及び流体出口オリフィスを備えるように形成されており、
前記キャピラリチャネルの長さは、約70μm〜約120μmの範囲である、前記装置。 - 前記複数の開口が、所望の三次元幾何形状及び形状を提供するように構成され、レーザ微細加工によって形成される、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記高弾性高分子ジェネレータプレートが、超高分子量ポリエチレン(UHMWPE)、ポリイミド、ポリエーテルエーテルケトン(PEEK)、タルク充填PEEK、ポリビニリジンフルオリド(PVDF)及びポリエーテルイミドからなる群より選択される材料から形成される、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記エジェクタプレートが、前記高弾性高分子ジェネレータプレートと連携して配置された中央開口領域を有し、前記圧電アクチュエータが、前記高弾性高分子ジェネレータプレートの複数の開口を閉塞しないように、前記エジェクタプレートの周辺領域に連結されている、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記高弾性高分子ジェネレータプレートの複数の開口が、前記高弾性高分子ジェネレータプレートの中央領域に配置され、該中央領域が、前記圧電アクチュエータに覆われず、前記エジェクタプレートの中央開口領域と連携して配置されている、請求項4に記載の装置。
- 前記エジェクタプレートと前記高弾性高分子ジェネレータプレートは、同心円状の形状であり、前記高弾性高分子ジェネレータプレートの直径が、前記エジェクタプレートよりも小さい、請求項5に記載の装置。
- 液滴流を吐出するように構成されたエジェクタ機構であって、該エジェクタ機構は、
第1の流体送出面と、高弾性高分子ジェネレータプレート及び圧電アクチュエータに連結された第2の面とを有するエジェクタプレートを備え、
該高弾性高分子ジェネレータプレートは、前記エジェクタプレートに連結された第1の流体入口面と、第2の流体出口面とを有し、前記高弾性高分子ジェネレータプレートの厚さを貫通して形成された複数の開口を含み、前記開口の第2の流体出口面における開口径が約20μm〜約100μmであって第1の流体入口面における開口径より小さく、
該圧電アクチュエータが、一定周波数で、該エジェクタプレートを振動させることで前記高弾性高分子ジェネレータプレートを振動させ、それにより、使用時に吐出された液滴流を発生させるように動作可能であり、
前記複数の開口のうちの1以上が、流体入口オリフィス、入口キャビティ、キャピラリチャネル及び流体出口オリフィスを備えるように形成されており、
前記キャピラリチャネルの長さは、約70μm〜約120μmの範囲である、前記エジェクタ機構。 - 前記複数の開口のそれぞれが、流体入口オリフィス、入口キャビティ、キャピラリチャネル及び流体出口オリフィスを備えるように形成され、それぞれの開口が全ピッチ長を含む、請求項7に記載のエジェクタ機構。
- 前記高弾性高分子ジェネレータプレートが、超高分子量ポリエチレン(UHMWPE)、ポリイミド、ポリエーテルエーテルケトン(PEEK)、タルク充填PEEK、ポリビニリジンフルオリド(PVDF)及びポリエーテルイミドからなる群より選択される材料から形成される、請求項7に記載のエジェクタ機構。
- 前記エジェクタプレートが、前記高弾性高分子ジェネレータプレートと連携して配置された中央開口領域を有し、前記圧電アクチュエータが、前記高弾性高分子ジェネレータプレートの複数の開口を閉塞しないように、前記エジェクタプレートの周辺領域に連結されている、請求項7に記載のエジェクタ機構。
- 前記高弾性高分子ジェネレータプレートの複数の開口が、前記高弾性高分子ジェネレータプレートの中央領域に配置され、該中央領域が、前記圧電アクチュエータに覆われず、前記エジェクタプレートの中央開口領域と連携して配置されている、請求項10に記載のエジェクタ機構。
- 前記エジェクタプレートと前記高弾性高分子ジェネレータプレートは、同心円状の形状であり、前記高弾性高分子ジェネレータプレートの直径が、前記エジェクタプレートよりも小さい、請求項11に記載のエジェクタ機構。
