Description
本発明の一に係る液晶組成物、及び該液晶組成物を用いた液晶表示装置について、図1、及び図5を用いて説明する。
本発明の一に係る液晶表示装置として、パッシブマトリクス型の液晶表示装置、アクティブマトリクス型の液晶表示装置を提供することができる。本実施の形態は、本発明の一に係るアクティブマトリクス型の液晶表示装置の例を、図2及び図3を用いて説明する。
トランジスタを作製し、該トランジスタを画素部、さらには駆動回路に用いて表示機能を有する液晶表示装置を作製することができる。また、トランジスタを用いて駆動回路の一部又は全体を、画素部と同じ基板上に一体形成し、システムオンパネルを形成することができる。
本実施の形態では、本発明の一態様の電子機器について説明する。具体的には、上記実施の形態で示す液晶表示装置を適用した電子機器について図6を用いて説明する。
Claims (6)
- 液晶組成物を挟持する透光性を有する第1の基板、及び第2の基板と、
前記第1の基板と前記液晶組成物との間に設けられた、画素電極層、共通電極層、遮光性を有する膜、及びスペーサとを有し、
前記画素電極層、前記共通電極層、及び前記遮光性を有する膜は、層間膜の同一表面上に設けられ、
前記遮光性を有する膜は、前記画素電極層と前記共通電極層とは分離して設けられ、
前記画素電極層、前記共通電極層、及び前記遮光性を有する膜は同じ材料であり、
前記スペーサは前記遮光性を有する膜上方に設けられ、
前記スペーサの下面はすべて前記遮光性を有する膜の上面と重畳し、
前記第2の基板は、ブラックマトリクスとして機能することができる遮光層を有することを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 請求項1において、前記液晶組成物はネマティック液晶、及びカイラル剤を含み、ブルー相を発現することを特徴とする液晶表示装置。
- 請求項1又は2において、前記液晶組成物は高分子化合物を含むことを特徴とする液晶表示装置。
- 透光性を有する第1の基板上方に、絶縁膜を形成し、
前記絶縁膜に接して、画素電極層、共通電極層、及び当該画素電極層と当該共通電極層とは分離した遮光性を有する膜を、同じ材料を用いて同じ工程により形成し、
前記絶縁膜及び前記遮光性を有する膜上方に、選択的に感光性樹脂層を形成し、
前記遮光性を有する膜をマスクとして、前記第1の基板側から前記感光性樹脂層に選択的に光を照射し、
前記感光性樹脂層において前記光を照射した領域を除去してスペーサを形成し、
前記第1の電極層、前記第2の電極層、及び前記スペーサに接して液晶組成物を充填し、
第2の基板にブラックマトリクスとして機能することができる遮光層を形成し、
前記スペーサと接し、前記液晶組成物を封止するように前記第2の基板を設けることを特徴とする液晶表示装置の作製方法。 - 請求項4において、前記液晶組成物としてネマティック液晶、及びカイラル剤を含み、ブルー相を発現する液晶組成物を用いることを特徴とする液晶表示装置の作製方法。
- 請求項4又は5において、前記液晶組成物は重合性モノマー、及び重合開始剤を含み、
前記液晶組成物を封止する第2の基板を設けた後、
前記液晶組成物に光を照射し重合させることを特徴とする液晶表示装置の作製方法。
