背景として、眼の光学構成要素について詳細に説明する。眼に入った光はまず角膜124に入る。角膜124は透明で、およそ60ジオプトリーの眼の全屈折力のうち約40ジオプトリーを提供する。その後、光は瞳孔118を通過する。瞳孔118は開口であり、直径は1mmから少なくとも8mmまで変化可能である。これによって、開口にf20〜f2.5を超えた範囲と、眼に入ることが可能な光量に対して32:1の割合を可能にする。虹彩114は、瞳孔118を形成する調節可能な隔膜として機能する。その後、光は水晶体122を通過する。水晶体122は、透明な封入された両凸体であって、これの円周部は毛様体112に固定されている。水晶体122は、弛緩状態の眼の全屈折力に約17ジオプトリー寄与する。水晶体122の屈折力は、毛様体112内の毛様体筋の収縮によって変化する。収縮によって、水晶体122が変形し、屈折力が変化する。その後、光は硝子体液138を通過し、最終的に網膜136に当たる。網膜136は、眼球の感覚神経層であり、脳の突出部と考えることができ、視神経134を介して脳に接続されている。網膜136の中心近くでは、黄斑132は、中心窩または小窩(図7参照)と呼ばれる、視覚感度が最も高く、直径がおよそ0.4mmの中心領域を含み、そこでは眼の分解能が最も高い。小窩の直径の小さいことが、良好な視力を得るために、光軸が極めて正確に向けられなければならない理由のうちの1つである。

Claims (9)
- 眼に埋め込まれ、第1の状態で第1の光学倍率を与え、第2の状態で第2の光学倍率を与える双安定電気駆動素子と、
眼に埋め込まれ、前記双安定電気駆動素子に動作的に結合され、双安定電気駆動素子を前記第1の状態と第2の状態との間で切り替えるように双安定電気駆動素子に電力を与え、切り替えた後は双安定電気駆動素子への電力の供給を断って、切り替えた状態に双安定電気駆動素子を維持させる制御器と、
前記双安定電気駆動素子を囲むように眼に埋め込まれ、前記制御器と電気的に接続され、双安定電気駆動素子に電力を供給するための再充電可能なバッテリ・リングと、
眼に埋め込まれ、前記制御器と電気的に接続されており、電力を誘導により受け、電力を前記制御器と再充電可能なバッテリ・リングとの少なくとも一方に与える誘導コイルと、
を具備する光学装置。 - 前記双安定電気駆動素子は、前記制御器により与えられる電力に応じて屈折率が変化する双安定液晶材で形成されている請求項1の光学装置。
- 前記双安定電気駆動素子は、個々に独立して制御される複数のピクセルにより構成されている請求項1又は2の光学装置。
- 前記第2の状態で、前記双安定電気駆動素子は、眼の高次の収差を矯正するようになっている請求項1乃至3のいずれか1の光学装置。
- 前記第2の状態で、前記双安定電気駆動素子は、眼の視力の変化を矯正するようになっている請求項1乃至3のいずれか1の光学装置。
- 前記制御器は、制御信号に応答して前記双安定電気駆動素子を第1の状態と第2の状態との間で切り替えるようになっており、また、
前記制御器に動作的に結合され、眼の外の装置から前記制御信号を受ける無線受信装置を更に具備する請求項1乃至5の光学装置。 - 前記光学倍率は、この光学装置が埋め込まれた後には、視力の変化を補償するように選択されている請求項6の光学装置。
- 眼に埋め込まれ、固定した倍率を与えるベース光学素子と、
前記ベース光学素子と光学的に結合されるように眼に埋め込まれ、眼の高次の収差と視力の変化との少なくとも一方を矯正するように、可変の光学倍率を与える双安定電気駆動素子と、
眼に埋め込まれ、前記双安定電気駆動素子に動作的に結合され、制御信号に応答して双安定電気駆動素子に電力を供給して、この双安定電気駆動素子の光学倍率を変化させ、この後に、双安定電気駆動素子への電力の供給を断って、切り替えた状態に双安定電気駆動素子を維持させる制御器と、
前記双安定電気駆動素子を囲むように眼に埋め込まれ、双安定電気駆動素子に電力を供給するための再充電可能なバッテリ・リングと、
前記制御器に動作的に結合され、眼の外の調節装置から双安定電気駆動素子に与えられる制御信号と前記電力の少なくとも一部とを受ける無線受信装置を具備し、
前記無線受信装置は、前記制御器と再充電可能なバッテリ・リングとの少なくとも一方電気的に接続されており、電力の少なくとも一部を誘導により受け、電力を前記制御器に与える誘導コイルを有している、光学装置。 - 前記双安定電気駆動素子は、前記制御器により与えられる電力に応じて透過率が変化する請求項8の光学装置。
