Description
エンベロープ20のポリエチレンフィルム22を、電極基材12の周辺の炭素のない領域18に熱的にシールすることにより、電極基材の各面の活性炭の周りにポーチを形成した。エンベロープ20を、基材の2つの長辺と底辺の縁から1/2インチ(1.3cm)のところで基材にシールして、1つの開いた辺を有するエンベロープを形成した。エンベロープの各長辺の1/2インチ(1.3cm)を切り落とした。Mylarシート30を電極基材に接触してエンベロープの各面に挿入した。エンベロープを2つのガラスプレートの間に入れ、このエンベロープ/ガラスプレートサンドイッチをクランプで締め付けて互いに固定した。ホールピペットを、エンベロープの各面のMylarと電極基材との間に挿入した。望ましくは、エンベロープ/ガラスプレートサンドイッチは垂直の位置に保ち、開放端とピペットを頂部にした。エンベロープ/ガラスプレートサンドイッチを、2つのクランプを有するリングスタンドを用いてMylarトレイ上の正しい位置にクランプで締め付けて固定した。
Claims (7)
- 多孔質基材の両面にイオン交換ポリマーを有するバイポーラ電極を形成する方法であって、
電極基材の両面に活性炭層を有し、前記面が活性炭層を欠く外周バンドを有する電極基材を準備し、
電極基材を一対のポリエチレンフィルムで形成された熱可塑性エンベロープに入れ、
エンベロープを電極基材の活性炭のない外周バンドに熱的にシールして、電極基材の1つの面に第1のポケットを、電極基材の反対側の面に第2のポケットを形成し、
エンベロープを2つの剛性プレート間に固定し、
アニオン交換基を有する第1の重合性モノマー混合物をエンベロープの第1のポケットに挿入し、
カチオン交換基を有する第2の重合性モノマー混合物をエンベロープの第2のポケットを挿入し、
第1及び第2の重合性モノマー混合物を重合する
ことを含む、前記方法。 - 第1及び第2の重合性モノマー混合物を熱重合で重合する、請求項1記載の方法。
- エンベロープ及び電極基材を85℃のオーブンに水平に入れることにより、第1及び第2の重合性モノマー混合物を重合する、請求項2記載の方法。
- 第1のアニオン重合性モノマー混合物を、エチレン性不飽和第三アミン及び第四アミン化合物、並びにその塩及び誘導体からなる群から選択する、請求項1記載の方法。
- 第2のカチオン重合性モノマー混合物を、エチレン性不飽和スルホン酸、及びカルボン酸、並びにその塩及び誘導体からなる群から選択する、請求項1記載の方法。
- さらに、エンベロープの各面にポリエチレンテレフタレートシートを電極基材に接触させて挿入することを含む、請求項1記載の方法。
- さらに、エンベロープの第1のポケットに第1のホールピペットを、かつエンベロープの第2のポケットに第2のホールピペットを挿入し、第1及び第2の重合性モノマー混合物をそれぞれ第1及び第2のピペットを介して第1及び第2のポケットに挿入することを含む、請求項1記載の方法。
