Description
間にセパレータを有する第1の電極と第2の電極とを備えた渦巻き形電極組立体が、平坦な電極をセパレータ材料と共に渦巻き状に巻くことによって調製され得る。第1の電極は、例えば、アルミニウム又はステンレス鋼を備えたシート、格子、又はスクリーンなどの金属基板の上にコーティングされた、二硫化鉄(FeS2)などのカソード用活物質を含んでもよい。第2の電極は例えば、アノード用活物質を含んでもよく、リチウム金属の密着シート、例えば、リチウム金属又はリチウム−アルミニウム合金などのリチウム合金の連続シートから調製され得る。セパレータは、微孔質のポリプロピレン又はポリエチレンなど、電解質透過性の材料を備えてもよい。
第1の電極及び第2の電極はそれぞれ、電気化学的に活性な物質、すなわち、電極構造内で、組み立てられた電池の電気化学的容量に寄与し得る物質から得られる総理論容量を有する。電極の総理論容量は、電極内にある活性電極物質の質量(グラム単位)に、活性電極物質の比理論容量(1グラム当たりのアンペア時単位)を掛けることによって決まる。例えば、リチウム金属の比理論容量は約3861mAh/gである。アノードは、1グラムの100%純粋なリチウムを活物質として含んでもよい。結果として得られる例示的なアノードの総理論容量は約3861mAhとなる。同様に、二硫化鉄の比理論容量は約893.5mAh/gである。カソードは、4.95グラムの二硫化鉄を活物質として含んでもよい。結果として得られるカソードの総理論容量は約4423mAhとなる。
放電性能試験は、デジタルカメラ又はDigicam試験と一般に呼ばれるANSIプロトコルに従う。このプロトコルは、パルス放電サイクルをセルに加えることからなる。各サイクルは、2秒間にわたる1.5ワットのパルスと、その直後に続く28秒間にわたる0.65ワットのパルスからなる。10回の連続するパルスの後、次いでセルを55分間の期間にわたって休止させ、その後に、規定のパルス方式を第2のサイクルにわたって開始する。各サイクルを、1.05Vのカットオフ電圧に達するまで引き続き反復する。カットオフ電圧に達するのに必要な1.5ワットのパルスの総数を記録する。
Claims (8)
- 第1の電極の活物質、前縁部、及び後縁部を備える第1の電極と、
第2の電極の活物質、前縁部、及び後縁部を備える第2の電極と、
前記第1の電極と前記第2の電極との間に配設されたセパレータと、を備え、
1.2未満の界面アノードカソード比を有する渦巻き形電極組立体であって、
前記第1の電極、前記第2の電極、及び前記セパレータは、前記第1の電極が前記電極組立体の最外径に層を形成するように、且つ前記第2の電極の前記後縁部が前記第1の電極の前記後縁部を越えて延びるように、巻付けられ、
前記第2の電極は、前記第2の電極に張り付けられた少なくとも1つのタブを備え、
前記タブは、前記第1の電極の前記後縁部を越えて延びる位置に、前記第2の電極に沿って定置される、渦巻き形電極組立体。 - 前記第1の電極の活物質、前記第2の電極の活物質、又は前記第1の電極の活物質と前記第2の電極の活物質との両方が、二硫化鉄、硫化鉄、黄鉄鉱、及びそれらの組合わせからなる群から選択される、請求項1に記載の渦巻き形電極組立体。
- 前記第2の電極の活物質又は両方がリチウムを含む、請求項1又は2に記載の渦巻き形電極組立体。
- 前記第1の電極の活物質がリチウムを含む、請求項1〜3のいずれか一項に記載の渦巻き形電極組立体。
- 前記第2の電極の活物質は、二硫化鉄、硫化鉄、黄鉄鉱、及びそれらの組合わせからなる群から選択される、請求項1〜4のいずれか一項に記載の渦巻き形電極組立体。
- 前記第2の電極の前記後縁部は、前記第1の電極の前記後縁部を5mm〜20mmだけ越えて延びる、請求項1〜5のいずれか一項に記載の渦巻き形電極組立体。
- 請求項1〜6のいずれか一項に記載の渦巻き形電極組立体を含む電気化学セルであって、
少なくとも1つの開放端部を有するハウジングと、
電解質と、
前記ハウジングの前記少なくとも1つの開放端部を閉鎖するエンドキャップ組立体と、を更に備え、
前記第1の電極、前記第2の電極、及び前記セパレータは、前記第1の電極が前記電極組立体の最外層を形成するように、且つ前記第2の電極の前記後縁部が前記第1の電極の前記後縁部を越えて延びるように、巻付けられる、電気化学セル。 - 請求項1〜6のいずれか一項に記載の電極組立体を製造する方法であって、
第1の電極の活物質、前縁部、及び後縁部を備える第1の電極を用意することと、
第2の電極の活物質、前縁部、及び後縁部を備える第2の電極を用意することと、
前記第1の電極と前記第2の電極との間に配設されたセパレータを用意することと、
前記第1の電極が前記電極組立体の最外層を形成するように、且つ前記第2の電極の前記後縁部が前記第1の電極の前記後縁部を越えて延びるように、前記電極組立体を巻くことと、を含み、前記電極組立体は1.2未満の界面アノードカソード比を有する、方法。
