前記管状中央ハウジングの範囲内で前記回路基板上に配置される1つのセンサ(40;140;430)であって、前記センサは、前記開口の付近において前記開口と整列して配置され、前記スリーブは、前記センサを囲んで配置され、前記センサは、前記管状中央ハウジングに対する前記スリーブの回転運動を前記開口を通して検出可能であり、かつ、前記センサは、前記管状中央ハウジングに対する前記スリーブの軸線運動を前記開口を通して検出可能である、前記1つのセンサ、および、
前記センサ(40;140;430)と情報伝達する回路であって、前記回路は、前記中央ハウジング(12;112;412)の範囲内に配置され、前記回路は、前記スリーブ(14;114;414)の前記運動に関するデータをコンピュータに送信可能である、前記回路、
を備える、ポインティングデバイス(10;110;200;210;220;400)。 - 前記センサ(40;140;430)は、レーザセンサおよび光センサからなる群から選択される、請求項1に記載のポインティングデバイス。
- 前記中央ハウジング(12;112;412)、前記スリーブ(14;114;414)、前記回路基板(416)、前記センサ(40;140;430)、および前記センサ(40;140;430)と情報伝達する前記回路によってローラアセンブリが構成され、
前記スリーブ(14;114;414)は、ブッシュ(18b,18c)によって前記管状中央ハウジングの前記一部分の上に適合して配置され、前記ブッシュ(18b,18c)によって、前記スリーブは、前記管状中央ハウジングの前記一部分に関して回転可能であり、かつ、前記概して水平軸線に沿って摺動可能であり、

をさらに備える、請求項1または2に記載のポインティングデバイス。 - 前記中央ハウジングの範囲内に配置される少なくとも1つの端部センサ(418,450)をさらに備え、前記端部センサは、前記中央ハウジング(12)上のあらかじめ決められた位置を越える前記スリーブ(14)の運動を非接触式に検出することが可能である、請求項3に記載のポインティングデバイス。
- 前記支持手段は、前記中央ハウジング(412)の一部分の下に配置されるピボット(426)を備え、前記中央ハウジングが前記ピボットに関して旋回できるように、前記中央ハウジングの開口は前記ピボットの上部の上に適合する、請求項3または4に記載のポインティングデバイス。
- 前記少なくとも1つのピックまたは近接スイッチは、ピックスイッチ(440)を備え、前記ポインティングデバイスは、ピック調整器アセンブリ(442〜446)をさらに備え、前記ピック調整器アセンブリは、前記ピックスイッチ(440)と連絡し、前記ピック調整器アセンブリは、前記ピックスイッチを起動させるための必要な力を選択するためにユーザによって移動可能なピック調整器(442)を含む、請求項3〜5のいずれか1項に記載のポインティングデバイス。
- 前記スリーブ(114)は、金属、プラスチック、ゴム、布および紙からなる群から選択される可撓性材料で構成され、前記スリーブは、前記中央ハウジング(112)の形状に順応する、請求項3〜6のいずれか1項に記載のポインティングデバイス。

- 前記支持手段は、ベースに固定されて、前記中央ハウジングを支持する少なくとも1つのたわみ(152)を備え、前記たわみは、変形可能材料でできている、請求項3〜8のいずれか1項に記載のポインティングデバイス。
- 前記支持手段は、ベースと前記中央ハウジングの端部との間に配置される少なくとも1つの板ばね(202a,202b;212a,212b;222a,222b;444)を備える、請求項3〜8のいずれか1項に記載のポインティングデバイス。
- 前記支持手段は、少なくとも1つのソレノイド(214a,214b)を備え、前記少なくとも1つのソレノイドは、前記中央ハウジング(12)を支持する、請求項3〜8のいずれか1項に記載のポインティングデバイス。
- 前記少なくとも1つのソレノイド(214a,214b)の各々は、プランジャ、前記プランジャの少なくとも一部分を囲むコイル、およびプランジャ戻しばねを備える、請求項11に記載のポインティングデバイス。
- 前記少なくとも1つの端部センサ(418,450)は、光学センサ、ホール効果センサ、または静電容量センサである、請求項4に記載のポインティングデバイス。
- 前記少なくとも1つの端部センサ(418,450)は、前記中央ハウジング(412)に関する前記スリーブ(414)の動きに関してディスプレイ上のポインタの速度調整を提供する、請求項4または13に記載のポインティングデバイス。
- 前記端部センサ(418,450)が前記スリーブ(414)の存在を検出しないときに、前記スリーブ(414)の動きの所与の量は、前記ディスプレイ上のポインタの動きの所与の量と相互に関連し、前記端部センサ(418,450)が前記スリーブ(414)の存在を検出するときに、前記スリーブ(414)の動きの同じ所与の量は、前記ディスプレイ上のポインタの動きのより大きい量と相互に関連する、請求項14に記載のポインティングデバイス。
