この例は、本発明による化学指示デバイスの製造を例示する。Whatman,Inc.から提供されたセルロース紙を利用して、2段階浸漬工程でセルロース紙の含浸済マトリックスを調製した。第1の浸漬溶液は、脱イオン(DI)水、硝酸銀、およびエタノールを以下の量で含有していた。

この例は、本発明による別の化学指示デバイスの製造を例示する。Whatman,Inc.から提供されたセルロース紙を利用して、2段階浸漬工程でセルロース紙の含浸済マトリックスを調製した。第1の浸漬溶液は、硝酸銀5.2グラム、DI水900mL、エチルアルコール100mL、および硝酸アルミニウム28グラムを含有していた。セルロース紙を溶液1に浸漬して第1の浸漬済マトリックスを生成した後、第1の浸漬マトリックスを乾燥させ、第1の浸漬済マトリックスが第2の溶液中に浸漬され得るように延伸した。
上記例1において製造したデバイスを使用して、未知試料中の塩化物の量を決定するための較正曲線を作成した。塩化物0〜3500ppmの範囲の1組の標準試料を使用して、図8の図のY軸および表1に示されるような0〜10単位の範囲の目盛を設定した。この目盛は、デバイスの担体マトリックスを覆うストリップ上に提供されてもよく、または別個の構成要素として提供されてもよい。以下に記載される五(5)種の選択された標準試料を利用して、塩化物イオンの未知の濃度を決定するための較正曲線を作成した。各標準試料に対するエラーバーもまた、図8に示されている。未知試料の目盛の読みを得ることにより、図8の曲線におけるY軸およびX軸を参照して、試料中の塩化物の量を容易に決定することができる。

- 担体マトリックスが、上部裏打ちストリップおよび下部裏打ちストリップを有する筐体内に配置され、デバイスが、試料をデバイスに進入させて指示物質に接触させるための、筐体における開口部をさらに備える、請求項1に記載の化学指示デバイス。
- 上部裏打ちストリップおよび下部裏打ちストリップのうちの少なくとも一方が、実質的に半透明または実質的に透明な材料から形成される、請求項6に記載の化学指示デバイス。
- デバイスへの進入後に試料を濾過するための、開口部に隣接して配置されたフィルタをさらに備え、フィルタは、硝酸亜鉛、硫酸マグネシウム、または硫酸アルミニウムのうちの少なくとも1種で前処理されている、請求項6に記載の化学指示デバイス。

- 試料中の塩化物を検出するための方法であって、
塩化物イオンを有する疑いのある試料を、担体マトリックス上に担持された銀およびバナジウム酸塩を含む指示物質を有する担体マトリックスと接触させるステップと、
試料中の塩化物を指示物質の銀と反応させて、担体マトリックスの長さに沿ってある量の塩化銀を形成するステップと、
担体マトリックスの長さに沿って形成された塩化銀の量に基づき、試料中の塩化物の量を決定するステップと
を含む方法。 - バナジウム酸塩が、デカバナジウム酸塩を含み、指示物質が、デカバナジウム酸銀を含む、請求項12に記載の方法。
- 銀が、銀源により提供され、バナジウム酸塩が、バナジウム酸塩源により提供され、指示物質が、銀源とバナジウム酸塩源との間の反応により形成されるデカバナジウム酸銀を含む、請求項12に記載の方法。
- バナジウム酸塩源が、メタバナジウム酸塩、オルトバナジウム酸塩、または酸化バナジウムのうちの少なくとも1種を含む、請求項14に記載の方法。
- バナジウム酸塩が、デカバナジウム酸塩を含み、デカバナジウム酸塩は、デカバナジウム酸塩を提供するようにバナジウム酸塩源のpHを3から6のpHに調節することによりバナジウム酸塩源から提供される、請求項14に記載の方法。
- 担体マトリックスを、銀源およびバナジウム酸塩源と接触させることにより指示物質を調製するステップをさらに含み、銀に対するバナジウムのモル比は、少なくとも2:1である、請求項14に記載の方法。
- アルミニウム含有化合物を、銀源またはバナジウム酸塩源のうちの少なくとも一方に添加して、干渉除去剤として作用させるステップをさらに含む、請求項14に記載の方法。
- 指示物質が、まず硝酸銀を含む第1の溶液中に担体マトリックスを浸漬して第1の浸漬済マトリックスを提供し、続いてデカバナジウム酸塩を含む第2の溶液に第1の浸漬済マトリックスを浸漬して第2の浸漬済マトリックスを提供することにより形成される、請求項12に記載の方法。
- 指示物質が、クロムを含まない状態に維持される、請求項12に記載の方法。
- 前記決定するステップが、担体マトリックスの長さに沿って形成された塩化物の量を、所定の塩化物濃度を有する複数の標準試料から作成された較正曲線の値と比較するステップを含む、請求項12に記載の方法。
