Claims (18)
- 単軸複屈折結晶層の表面に対して傾斜角の光学軸を有する前記単軸複屈折結晶層を含む単層ゼロ次リターダを備え、前記傾斜角は、前記単軸複屈折結晶層の厚さが10μmよりも大きく、前記単軸複屈折結晶層が所定の波長範囲で使用される液晶ディスプレイ・パネルの残留面内リターダンスを補償するのに適した面内リターダンスを前記所定の波長範囲に有するように、選ばれ、および
対照的な屈折率材料の交互の層の少なくとも1つの周期的スタックを含む少なくとも1つの多層スタックを備え、前記交互の層の各々の厚さおよび屈折率は、前記少なくとも1つの多層スタックが前記所定の波長範囲において前記単軸複屈折結晶層の正の面外リターダンスおよび前記液晶ディスプレイ・パネルの正の面外リターダンスを補償するのに適した負の面外リターダンスを前記所定の波長範囲に有するように、選ばれる、光リターダ。 - 前記少なくとも1つの多層スタックが、第1の反射防止コーティングを含み、交互の層の前記少なくとも1つの周期的スタックが、前記第1の反射防止コーティングに一体化された第1の構造性複屈折スタックを含む、請求項1に記載の光リターダ。
- 前記少なくとも1つの多層スタックが、第2の反射防止コーティングを含み、交互の層の前記少なくとも1つの周期的スタックが、前記第2の反射防止コーティングに一体化された第2の構造性複屈折スタックを含む、請求項2に記載の光リターダ。
- 前記第1の反射防止が、前記単軸複屈折結晶層の第1の側によって支持され、前記第2の反射防止コーティングが、前記単軸複屈折結晶層の反対の第2の側によって支持される、請求項3に記載の光リターダ。
- 前記単軸複屈折結晶層を支持する基板を備え、前記基板は、前記単軸複屈折結晶層に積層された第1の表面と、前記第1および第2の反射防止コーティングの一方が堆積された第2の表面とを有する、請求項4に記載の光リターダ。
- 前記傾斜角が、前記単軸複屈折結晶層の正の面外リターダンスと前記単軸複屈折結晶層の面内リターダンスの比が約10よりも大きく約200よりも小さいように選ばれる、請求項1から5のいずれかに記載の光リターダ。
- 前記傾斜角が、前記単軸複屈折結晶層の正の面外リターダンスと前記単軸複屈折結晶層の面内リターダンスの比が約30よりも大きく約150よりも小さいように選ばれる、請求項1から5のいずれかに記載の光リターダ。
- 前記単軸複屈折結晶層が、石英を含む、請求項7に記載の光リターダ。
- 前記単軸複屈折結晶層の面内リターダンスが、30nmよりも小さい、請求項1から5のいずれかに記載の光リターダ。
- 前記単軸複屈折結晶層の厚さが、50μmよりも大きい、請求項1から5のいずれかに記載の光リターダ。
- 前記傾斜角が、45°よりも大きい、請求項1から5のいずれかに記載の光リターダ。
- 前記傾斜角が、75°よりも大きい、請求項1から5のいずれかに記載の光リターダ。
- 前記傾斜角が、80°と86°の間である、請求項1から5のいずれかに記載の光リターダ。
- 前記所定の波長範囲が、380nmから800nmである、請求項1から5のいずれかに記載の光リターダ。
- 光源と、
前記光源から光を受け取り、第1の直線偏光軸を有する第1の直線偏光を通過させる第1の偏光子と、
前記第1の直線偏光を光学的に変調する液晶ディスプレイ・パネルと、
前記光学的に変調された光を受け取り、第2の直線偏光軸を有する第2の直線偏光を通過させる第2の偏光子と、
前記第2の直線偏光を画面に投影する投影レンズと、
前記液晶ディスプレイ・パネルと前記第1および第2の偏光子の少なくとも1つとの間に配置されたトリム・リターダと、を備え、
前記トリム・リターダが、
単軸複屈折結晶層の表面に対して傾斜角の光学軸を有する前記単軸複屈折結晶層を含む単層ゼロ次リターダを備え、前記傾斜角は、前記単軸複屈折結晶層の厚さが10μmよりも大きく、前記単軸複屈折結晶層が前記液晶ディスプレイ・パネルの残留面内リターダンスを補償するのに適した面内リターダンスを有するように、選ばれ、および
対照的な屈折率材料の交互の層の少なくとも1つの周期的スタックを含む少なくとも1つの多層スタックを備え、前記交互の層の各々の厚さおよび屈折率は、前記少なくとも1つの多層スタックが前記単軸複屈折結晶層の正の面外リターダンスおよび前記液晶ディスプレイ・パネルの正の面外リターダンスを補償するのに適した負の面外リターダンスを有するように、選ばれる、液晶ディスプレイに基づいた投影システム。 - 前記液晶ディスプレイ・パネルが、反射型液晶ディスプレイ・パネルであり、前記第1および第2の直線偏光軸は直交し、さらに、前記第1および第2の偏光子は同じ偏光ビームスプリッタを備える、請求項15に記載の液晶ディスプレイに基づいた投影システム。
- 前記液晶ディスプレイ・パネルが、垂直配向ネマチック液晶オン・シリコン・パネルを備える、請求項15または16に記載の液晶ディスプレイに基づいた投影システム。
- 前記トリム・リターダが、前記液晶ディスプレイ・パネルと一体化されている、請求項15または16に記載の液晶ディスプレイに基づいた投影システム。
