Claims (15)
- (a)複数の画素であって、各々が、光を変調するための移動電極(図7,M1−4)を含む画素と、
(b)前記画素の選択的なアドレッシングのための複数の第一アドレッシング電極(図7,R1−2)及び第二アドレッシング電極(図7,C1−2)と、
(c)各々が前記複数の第二アドレッシング電極との間に形成されたアークギャップ(図7,G1−4)を通して前記移動電極に選択的に静電気力を与えるための複数の画素電極(図7,A1−4)と、
(d)前記画素電極及び前記第二アドレッシング電極と物理的に接触したイオン化ガスと、
(e)選択的に前記イオン化ガスをイオン化し、前記画素電極と前記第二アドレッシング電極との間の前記アークギャップ内の電気伝導経路の形成を開始するように、前記第一及び第二アドレッシング電極に接続された電子回路(図8,74,75)と、を備えることを特徴とするディスプレイ。 - 固定電極(図7,L1−2)をさらに備え、
前記各移動電極が、前記固定電極及び前記画素電極の選択された一つの間に配置されたことを特徴とする請求項1に記載のディスプレイ。 - 前記第一アドレッシング電極が、前記移動電極に静電気力を与えることを特徴とする請求項1または2に記載のディスプレイ。
- 前記第一アドレッシング電極と前記画素電極との間に形成された絶縁層(図7,71)をさらに備えることを特徴とする請求項1から3のいずれか一項に記載のディスプレイ。
- 前記第一アドレッシング電極と前記第二アドレッシング電極との間に形成された絶縁層(図7,71)をさらに備えることを特徴とする請求項1から3のいずれか一項に記載のディスプレイ。
- 前記イオン化ガスが、前記移動電極、前記第一アドレッシング電極及び前記第二アドレッシング電極及び前記画素電極の大部分から分離されていること(図7)を特徴とする請求項1から5のいずれか一項に記載のディスプレイ。
- 前記第一及び第二アドレッシング電極、前記移動電極及び前記画素電極が、光反射導体から形成されたこと(図7)を特徴とする請求項1から6のいずれか一項に記載のディスプレイ。
- 前記イオン化ガスが、ヘリウム、ネオン、アルゴンまたはキセノンを含むことを特徴とする請求項1から7のいずれか一項に記載のディスプレイ。
- 前記イオン化ガスが、30torrから500torrの間の圧力を有することを特徴とする請求項1から8のいずれか一項に記載のディスプレイ。
- 光導波路(図1−3,21)をさらに備え、
前記光導波路が、上面(30)、前記上面から下方に伸びた複数の光放出面(34)及び前記光放出面と交互配置された複数の凹面(35)を有し、
前記移動電極が、前記光導波路の前記光放出面から放出する前記光を変調することを特徴とする請求項1から9のいずれか一項に記載のディスプレイ。 - 前記移動電極に接続された第一電子回路(図8,77,図9)をさらに備え、
前記第一電子回路が、前記移動電極を第一位置から第二位置に移動させるように前記移動電極に第一電位差を与え、前記第二位置から前記第一位置に選択的に移動させるように第二電位差を与え、及び前記第一及び第二位置に保持するように第三電位差を与えることを特徴とする請求項1から10のいずれか一項に記載のディスプレイ。 - 前記移動電極を第一位置から第二位置に移動させるように前記各移動電極に静電気力を与え、前記第二位置から前記第一位置に選択的に移動させるように選択的な静電気力を与え、及び前記第一及び第二位置に保持するようにバイアス静電気力を与える手段(図7,8,9)をさらに備えることを特徴とする請求項1から10のいずれか一項に記載のディスプレイ。
- 前記各移動電極にバイアス静電気力を与える手段(図7−9)をさらに備え、ビデオフィールドアドレッシング周期の間、第一位置及び第二位置に前記移動電極を保持することを特徴とする請求項1から10のいずれか一項に記載のディスプレイ。
- ディスプレイのマイクロメカニカル画素の操作方法であって、
前記各マイクロメカニカル画素が、複数の第一アドレッシング電極及び第二アドレッシング電極と、複数の画素電極と、各々の前記画素電極と前記第二アドレッシング電極との間に形成された複数のアークギャップと、前記画素電極及び前記第二アドレッシング電極と物理的に接触したイオン化ガスと、を有するアドレッシング構造を通して前記マイクロメカニカル画素に供給された、選択的なアドレス電圧に従い第一または第二位置をとる移動電極備え、
前記方法が、
(a)前記マイクロメカニカル画素に前記選択的なアドレス電圧を与えるように、前記アークギャップ中でアークを選択的に開始するステップと、
(b)与えられたアドレス電圧に従い前記第一または第二位置に前記移動電極を移動させるステップと、
を含むことを特徴とする方法。 - 前記マイクロメカニカル画素に与えられた前記アドレス電圧をリセットするステップをさらに含むことを特徴とする請求項14に記載の方法。
