複数の開口部が不織布濾材と協働して、粒子を外側研磨表面から多孔質付着布に移動させる、研磨物品を提供する。
基材の第1表面に隣接して付着した研磨層を含み、研磨層が、少なくとも1つの結合剤によって基材の第1表面に付着した複数の研磨粒子を含み、研磨層が外側研磨表面を有し、基材が、基材の第1表面に対向する第2表面を有し、複数の開口部が、外側研磨表面から基材の第2表面に延びている、多孔質研磨部材を準備する工程と、
第1表面及び第1表面に対向する第2表面を有する不織布濾材であって、不織布濾材の第1表面が、基材の第2表面に隣接し、第2の不織布濾材が、0.5〜15ミリメートルの厚さ及び1立方センチメートルあたり0.04〜0.5グラムの嵩密度を有する、不織布濾材を準備する工程と、
不織布濾材を基材の第2表面に付着させる工程と、
多孔質付着布を不織布濾材の第2表面に付着させる工程と、を含む、研磨物品の作製方法であって、
複数の開口部が不織布濾材と協働して、粒子を外側研磨表面から多孔質付着布に移動させる、研磨物品の作製方法を提供する。
用語「空気抵抗」とは、不織布ウェブ又は研磨物品の厚み寸法を通過する空気の抵抗を指し、比較目的に使用されるとき、全ての空気抵抗値は、同様の状態で測定されるべきである。
濾材1、即ちFM1のディスクの縁部が、メリーランド州ボルティモアのDAPプロダクツ社(DAP Products, Inc.)により製造された「DAPアレックスプラス(DAP ALEX PLUS)」の商品名を有するシリコンアクリルコーキング材の滑らかで連続的なビーズを、ディスクの外周縁部(周囲に隣接した)に適用することにより、封止された。コーキングは、スパチュラを使用して濾材の縁部に押し込まれた。コーキングを少なくとも8時間乾燥させた。このような方法で封止されたFM1は、FM3として指定された。
研磨材料のシート1、即ちAM1は、以下の手順により、3M社から入手可能な「3M 964 0.33mm(13ミル)転写テープ(3M 964 0.33 mm(13 MIL)TRANSFER TAPE)」の商品名を有する、同じようなサイズの両面転写テープシートにラミネートされた。テープのライナーの片側が除去され、AM1シートの、外側研磨表面に対向する側は、テープの、露出した粘着性の感圧性接着剤に手でラミネートされた。ラミネートされた接着剤は、図4に示されるパターン400に従ってレーザー穿孔された。レーザー穿孔され切られた、この層状構造体の直径12.7cm(5インチ)のディスクは、AM2として指定された。
3M社から「スーパー77スプレー接着剤(SUPER 77 SPRAY ADHESIVE)」の商品名で市販されている感圧性接着剤が、およそ15.2cm(6インチ)の正方形のAT1シートのループのない側に塗布され、25℃にておよそ30秒間乾燥された。接着剤の乾燥重量は、1平方センチメートルあたり約12ミリグラム(mg/cm2)であった。濾材FM1若しくはFM3、又は研磨材料AM5若しくはAM6の円形表面が、AT1の接着剤コーティングされた表面にラミネートされた。構造体の縁部からはみ出した過剰なAT1の材料が、はさみで切ることにより除去されて、円形で実質的に同一の広がりを持つ多層構造体が作り出された。
AM2の転写テープのライナーが取り除かれて、テープの粘着性の感圧性接着剤が露出した。AM2の層と濾材の層が実質的に同一の広がりを持つように、濾材、FM1又はFM3の適切な円形ディスクが、接着剤に合わせられ、接着剤に手でラミネートされた。
サンディング試験方法1
直径12.7cm(5.0インチ)の研磨ディスクが計量され、次いで、3M社の「3Mフックイットバックアップパッド、20206番(3M HOOKIT BACKUP PAD, #20206)」の商品名で入手可能な40孔の直径12.7cm(5.0インチ)×厚さ0.95cm(3/8インチ)のフォームバックアップパッドに取り付けられた。バックアップパッドとディスクの組立品は、次いで、ニューヨーク州クラレンス(Clarence)のダイナブレード社(Dynabrade Corp.)から得られた、直径12.7cm(5インチ)、中切削(medium finishing)のデュアルアクションオービタルサンダー、モデル21033に取り付けられた。ディスクの研磨面は、ミネソタ州ホワイトベアレーク(White Bear Lake)のホワイトベアボートワークス(White Bear Boat Works)から得られた、事前計量された46cm×76cm(18インチ×30インチ)の、ゲルコーティングされたファイバーグラス強化プラスチックパネルに、手で接触させた。サンダーは、620kPa(90psi)の送気管圧及び44N(10ポンドフォース)のダウンフォースで、2サイクル(それぞれ75秒間)作動させた。ワークピースの表面に対する角度は0度を使用した。各サイクルは、合わせて全長12.8m(504インチ)に対して、パネル表面全域にわたる工具速度17cm/秒(6.7インチ/秒)の24の重複横断通過からなり、結果として均一に研磨された試験パネル領域が得られた。第1の研磨サイクル後、研磨されたパネル上部を横切るように圧縮空気を吹き付けることにより、試験パネルをきれいにして、目に見える粉塵を取り除いた。ディスクがバックアップパッドから取り除かれ、パネルとディスクの両方が計量された。研磨材がバックアップパッドに再び取り付けられ、同じ試験パネルを使用して75秒間の研磨サイクルが繰り返された。研磨されたパネル上部を横切るように圧縮空気を吹き付けることにより、試験パネルを再びきれいにして、目に見える粉塵を取り除いた。研磨ディスクはパックアップパッドから取り除かれ、パネルと研磨ディスクの両方が計量された。報告されたデータは、第2の研磨サイクル、150秒間の累積研磨時間後のものである。
研磨された試験パネルの結果の表面粗さは、オハイオ州シンシナティのマール社(Mahr Corporation)から「表面粗度測定器モデルM4P−130589(PERTHOMETER MODEL M4P-130589)」の商品名で入手可能な表面仕上げ試験装置を使用することにより測定された。表面仕上げ値は、それぞれが150秒間の研磨試験を終えた後、試験パネルの3つの研磨部分で測定された。最大PV(peak-to-valley)値の中間であるRz(Rtmとしても知られている)が、各測定に対して記録された。
本明細書において上に記される圧力低下測定試験は、内径11.4cm(4.5インチ)の一対のシリンダーを備えるフィルタ試験装置を用いて、32リットル/分の気流速度で実施された。圧力変換器は、マサチューセッツ州ウィルミントン(Wilmington)のMKSインストルメンツ(MKS Instruments)から、商品名「MKSバラトロン圧力変換器398HD−00010SP12(MKS BARATRON PRESSURE TRANSDUCER, 398HD-00010SP12)」(1.33kPa(10トール)範囲)で入手した。

- 基材の第1表面に隣接して付着した研磨層を含み、該研磨層が、少なくとも1つの結合剤によって前記基材の前記第1表面に付着した複数の研磨粒子を含み、前記研磨層が外側研磨表面を有し、前記基材が、前記基材の前記第1表面に対向する第2表面を有し、複数の開口部が、前記外側研磨表面から前記基材の前記第2表面に延び、有孔コーティングされた研磨材またはコーティングされたスクリーン研磨材を含む多孔質研磨部材と、
第1表面及び該第1表面に対向する第2表面を有する不織布濾材であって、該不織布濾材の前記第1表面が、前記基材の前記第2表面に隣接して付着し、前記不織布濾材が複数の繊維を含む、不織布濾材と、
前記不織布濾材の前記第2表面と隣接して付着している多孔質付着布と、を含む研磨物品であって、
粒子を前記外側研磨表面から前記多孔質付着布に、前記複数の開口部および前記不織布濾材を通って移動させ、未使用の状態では、研磨物品の少なくとも一部分が、圧力低下測定試験により0.2〜20ミリメートルの水の範囲の圧力低下を示す、研磨物品。 - 基材の第1表面に隣接して付着した研磨層を含み、該研磨層が、少なくとも1つの結合剤によって前記基材の前記第1表面に付着した複数の研磨粒子を含み、前記研磨層が外側研磨表面を有し、前記基材が、前記基材の前記第1表面に対向する第2表面を有し、複数の開口部が、前記外側研磨表面から前記基材の前記第2表面に延び、有孔コーティングされた研磨材またはコーティングされたスクリーン研磨材を含む多孔質研磨部材を準備する工程と、
第1表面及び前記第1表面に対向する第2表面を有する不織布濾材であって、該不織布濾材の前記第1表面が、前記基材の前記第2表面に隣接して付着している、不織布濾材を準備する工程と、
前記不織布濾材を前記基材の前記第2表面に付着させる工程と、
多孔質付着布を前記不織布濾材の前記第2表面に付着させる工程と、を含む、研磨物品の作製方法であって、
粒子を前記外側研磨表面から前記多孔質付着布に、前記複数の開口部および前記不織布濾材を通って移動させ、未使用の状態では、研磨物品の少なくとも一部分が、圧力低下測定試験により0.2〜20ミリメートルの水の範囲の圧力低下を示す、研磨物品の作製方法。
