粒子に関する用語「D50」とは、容積基準の中央値粒径、すなわち、粒子の50容積%がそれ以下の粒径を有する粒径を指し、
用語「ポリマー」とは、少なくとも1000グラム/モルの分子量を有し、かつ、結合反復単位を有する、多数の天然及び合成の化合物のうちのいずれかを指し、前記単位はそれぞれ、比較的軽分子で単純な分子であり、
及び研磨剤複合体を説明するのに用いられる用語「精密形状の」とは、比較的平滑な表面を有する面によって画定される形状の研磨剤複合体であって、前記面が、様々な面の交差によって画定される明瞭な終端で識別できるエッジ長を有する明確に確定される鋭い縁部によって境界付けられ、かつ、接合しているものを指す。
研磨材スラリー(重量部で定義されるもの)は、13.2部のACR1と、20.0部のACR2と、0.5部のDSP1と、2.0部のCPA1と、1.1部のUV1(UVI1)と、63.2部のMIN7とをラボラトリー・エアミキサーを用いて、20℃で約15分間均質に分散させることによって調製した。このスラリーを、米国特許出願第11/380,444号(ウー(Woo)ら)の図2に示す通り、均等に分布され、密集させた、交互に34度ヘリカルカットされた、底幅83.8×83.8マイクロメートル(3.3ミル×3.3ミル)×深さ63.5マイクロメートル(2.5ミル)の角錐の11×11列の配列を、深さ21マイクロメートル(0.83ミル)に切頭された同一角錐の3列×3列の配列で分離したものを有する、幅30.5cm(12インチ)の微細複製ポリプロピレン用具にナイフコーティングによって塗布した。前記用具は、米国特許第5,975,987号(フープマン(Hoopman)ら)の手順に概ね従って、対応するマスターロールから調製した。次いで、スラリーを充填した前記ポリプロピレン用具を、3M社(3M Company)から取引表記「MA370M」として入手した、エチレンアクリル酸で下塗りされた厚さ94.2マイクロメートル(3.71ミル)の高分子フィルムの30.5センチメートル(12インチ)幅のウェブの上に置いて、ニップロールに通過させ(25.4cm(10インチ)幅のウェブの場合、ニップ圧力620.5キロパスカル(kPa)(1平方インチ当たり90ポンド(psi))、そしてこのウェブを9.14メートル/分(30フィート/分(fpm))で移動させながら、メリーランド州ガイサースバーグ(Gaithersburg)のフュージョン・システムズ社(Fusion Systems Inc.)製の「D」型紫外線(UV)ランプを用いて236ワット/cm(600ワット/インチ))で照射を行った。ポロプロピレン用具を、エチレンアクリル酸で下塗りされたポリエステルフィルムから分離すると、図3に示すように、エチレンアクリル酸で下塗りされたポリエステルフィルムに接着した、完全硬化した精密形状の研磨層が得られた。このフィルムの裏面(トポグラフィカル構造化研磨層を有する面とは反対の面)に感圧接着剤(3M社(3M Company)から取引表記「3Mスコッチ商標442KW(3M SCOTCH BRAND 442KW)」として入手可能)を積層した。その後、その研磨材から、直径が1.91cm(0.75インチ)〜3.18cm(1.25インチ)までの範囲の種々の大きさのディスクを打ち抜いた。
鉱物分散体(容量部(pbv))は、次の手順に従って、表1に記した材料及び量を用いて調製した。20重量%のBIN1水溶液を調製した。この溶液に、乾燥被覆層の全容積に対して20容積%の鉱物含有量を達成するのに十分な量のMIN1鉱物を添加した。この分散体の粘度は、pH約9のTHK1を加えることにより、2〜3パスカル・秒までの範囲のずり粘度に調節した。
実施例2〜3及び比較例B〜Dは、表1に記すように異なるポリマーを用いて鉱物分散体を作製したこと以外は、実施例1に記載した方法に従って調製した。
実施例4〜6及び比較例E〜Fは、表1に記すように異なる鉱物を鉱物分散体に用いたこと以外は、実施例1に記載した方法に従って調製した。
実施例7〜11は、鉱物分散体に(表1に記すように)異なる鉱物濃度を用いたこと以外は、実施例1に記載した方法に従って調製した。
比較例Gは、表1に記すように鉱物分散体に結合剤を用いなかったこと以外は、実施例1に記載した方法に従って調製した。
比較例Hは、表1に記すように、1重量%のSURF1を鉱物分散体に添加したこと以外は、比較例Gに記載した方法に従って調製した。
比較例Iは、表1に記すように、鉱物分散体に結合剤も鉱物も使用せず、1重量%のSURF1を鉱物分散体に添加したこと以外は、実施例1に記載した方法に従って調製した。
実施例1及び比較例Aについて、周囲のゆず肌を付随的に平坦化することなしに自動車用クリアコート・テストパネルTP1の屑ニブ(dust nib)を除去する(デニビング)能力を評価した。硬化したクリアコート(TP1)中の屑ニブを目視確認して、水を軽く吹き付けた。評価しようとする構造化研磨物品の3.18cm(1.25インチ)試験片(表1に記す通り)を、バックアップパッド(ミネソタ州セント・ポール(St. Paul)の3M社(3M Company)から取引表記「3Mフィネス−イット・スティキット・バックアップパッド(3M FINESSE-IT STIKIT BACKUP PAD)、部品番号02345」として市販されている、直径(3.18cm(1.25インチ))の、ショア00硬度40〜60のビニル面バックアップパッドに取り付けた後、それを、ニューヨーク州クラランス(Clarence)のダイナブレード社(Dynabrade, Inc.)から入手した圧縮空気駆動式ランダム・オービット・サンダー、型番「57502」に装着した。テストパネル上の所定の屑ニブ(外径<1mm)は、620kPa(1平方インチ当たり90ポンド)の管路空気圧を用い、研磨物品の中央部に用具の重さを利用してダウンフォースを発生させながら、3秒の研磨間隔で研磨した。研磨間隔が終わる度にテストパネル(TP1)をイソプロパノールできれいに拭取った。研磨したテストパネルの屑ニブ部分の目視評価を記録した。結果を(次の)表1に記す。
Claims (3)
- 構造化研磨物品であって、
第1主表面及び前記第1主表面と対向する第2主表面を有する裏材;
前記裏材に固定されたトポグラフィカル構造化研磨層であって、前記トポグラフィカル構造化研磨層が、精密形状の研磨剤複合体を含み、前記精密形状の研磨剤複合体が、架橋ポリマー結合剤の中に研磨剤粒子を含み、前記研磨剤粒子が所定のD50を有する、トポグラフィカル構造化研磨層;及び、
前記トポグラフィカル構造化研磨層の少なくとも一部の上に配置された固体被覆層であって、前記固体被覆層は、モース硬度が少なくとも4の削剥粒子と水溶性ポリマーとを含み、前記削剥粒子が、前記研磨剤粒子のD50以下の所定のD50を有する固体被覆層;
を備える、構造化研磨物品。 - 加工物の研磨方法であって、
請求項1に記載の構造化研磨物品の前記トポグラフィカル構造化研磨層の少なくとも一部を、水の存在下で加工物と摩擦接触させる工程と、
前記加工物又は前記トポグラフィカル構造化研磨層のうち少なくとも一方を、他方に対して相対的に移動させて、前記加工物の表面の少なくとも一部を研磨する工程と、
を含む、加工物の研磨方法。 - 構造化研磨物品の製造方法であって、前記方法が、
構造化研磨物品を提供する工程であって、
第1主表面及び前記第1主表面と対向する第2主表面を有する裏材と、
前記裏材に固定されたトポグラフィカル構造化研磨層であって、精密形状の研磨剤複合体を含み、前記精密形状の研磨剤複合体類が架橋ポリマー結合剤の中に研磨剤粒子を含み、かつ、前記研磨剤粒子が所定のD50を有する、トポグラフィカル構造化研磨層と、
を含む、構造化研磨物品を提供する工程と;
前記トポグラフィカル構造化研磨層の少なくとも一部の上に固体被覆層を配置する工程であって、前記固体被覆層が、モース硬度が少なくとも4の削剥粒子と水溶性ポリマーとを含み、前記削剥粒子が、前記研磨剤粒子のD50以下の所定のD50を有する固体被覆層を配置する工程と;
を含む、構造化研磨物品の製造方法。
