Y(i,j)=max(R(i,j),G(i,j),B(i,j)) (1)
数式(1)において、Y(i,j)は(i,j)に位置した画素の輝度値、R(i,j)は(i,j)に位置した画素のR画素値、G(i,j)は(i,j)に位置した画素のG画素値、及びB(i,j)は(i,j)に位置した画素のB画素値である。数式(1)は、(i,j)に位置したRGB画素値のうち、最も大きい画素値を(i,j)に位置した画素の輝度値として選択するということを意味する。このように一つの部分領域(k)に含まれた画素の輝度値を算出して、グレイレベルヒストグラムを算出する。
ここで、Aは、数式(5)を満たす最大グレイレベル値である。

Claims (27)
- 映像信号を表示するパネル部と、
前記映像信号が可視化されるように前記パネル部に光を提供する発光部と、
前記映像信号の領域に対応する輝度値に応じて、前記パネル部の部分領域毎に光が提供されるように前記発光部を制御する発光制御部と、
前記映像信号の領域に対応する輝度値に応じて、前記映像信号に含まれた画素値を前記部分領域毎に補償するパネル制御部と、
を含み、
前記発光制御部は、
前記輝度値を用いて前記パネル部の部分領域毎に輝度が調節されるように前記発光部を制御する部分輝度調整部と、
前記部分輝度調整部から算出した前記部分領域に対する代表値及び前記補償した画素値を用いて、前記パネル部の部分領域毎に同一比率で調節して画面全体の輝度が同一比率で調節されるように前記発光部を制御する全体輝度調整部とを含むことを特徴とするディスプレイ装置。 - 前記パネル制御部は、
前記発光部を制御するために前記発光制御部から算出された前記輝度値の代表値を用いて、前記部分領域毎に前記画素値を補償することを特徴とする請求項1に記載のディスプレイ装置。 - 前記発光制御部は、
入力される映像信号の前記部分領域毎のRGB画素値の大きさに応じて、前記パネル部に光を提供するように前記発光部を制御するための代表値を前記部分領域毎に算出することを特徴とする請求項1に記載のディスプレイ装置。 - 前記発光制御部は、
前記RGB画素値のうち、最も大きい値を有する画素に対して、前記部分領域毎のグレイレベルヒストグラムを算出した後、次の数式を用いて、前記部分領域毎の初期代表値を算出することを特徴とする請求項3に記載のディスプレイ装置。
- 前記発光制御部は、
前記初期代表値に対して空間フィルタリング及び時間フィルタリングを行い、前記発光部を制御するための代表値を出力することを特徴とする請求項7に記載のディスプレイ装置。 - 前記パネル制御部は、
補償された前記画素値により前記代表値が調整されて発生する画面全体の輝度を補償することを特徴とする請求項2に記載のディスプレイ装置。 - 前記パネル制御部は、
前記R’G’B’画素値をディザリングし、輪郭線アーチファクト(Contour artifact)を除去することを特徴とする請求項4に記載のディスプレイ装置。 - 映像信号を表示するパネル部と、前記映像信号が可視化されるように前記パネル部に光を提供する発光部と、を含むディスプレイ装置の輝度調整方法において、
前記パネル部の部分領域毎に光が提供されるように前記発光部を制御するステップと、
前記部分領域毎に提供される光によって発生するアーチファクトが除去されるように、前記映像信号に含まれた画素値を前記部分領域毎に補償するステップと、
を含み、
前記発光部を制御するステップは、
部分輝度調整部が前記輝度値を用いて前記パネル部の部分領域毎に輝度が調節されるように前記発光部を制御するステップと、
全体輝度調整部が前記部分輝度調整部から算出した前記部分領域に対する代表値及び前記補償した画素値を用いて、前記パネル部の部分領域毎に同一比率で調節して画面全体の輝度が同一比率で調節されるように前記発光部を制御するステップとを含むことを特徴とするディスプレイ装置の輝度調整方法。 - 前記画素値を補償するステップは、
前記発光部を制御するために前記発光制御部から算出された代表値を用いて、前記部分領域毎に前記画素値を補償するステップであることを特徴とする請求項14に記載のディスプレイ装置の輝度調整方法。 - 前記発光部を制御するステップは、
入力される映像信号の前記部分領域毎のRGB画素値の大きさに応じて、前記パネル部に光を提供するように前記発光部を制御するための代表値を前記部分領域毎に算出するステップであることを特徴とする請求項15に記載のディスプレイ装置の輝度調整方法。 - 前記発光部を制御するステップは、
前記RGB画素値のうち、最も大きい値を有する画素に対して、前記部分領域毎のグレイレベルヒストグラムを算出した後、次の数式を用いて、前記部分領域毎の初期代表値を算出することを特徴とする請求項16に記載のディスプレイ装置の輝度調整方法。
- 前記発光部を制御するステップは、
前記初期代表値に対して空間フィルタリング及び時間フィルタリングを行い、前記発光部を制御するための代表値を出力することを特徴とする請求項20に記載のディスプレイ装置の輝度調整方法。 - 補償された前記画素値により前記代表値が調整されて発生する画面全体の輝度を補償するステップを更に含むことを特徴とする請求項15に記載のディスプレイ装置の輝度調整方法。
- 前記画素値を補償するステップは、
前記R’G’B’画素値をディザリングし、輪郭線アーチファクト(Contour artifact)を除去するステップを含むことを特徴とする請求項17に記載のディスプレイ装置の輝度調整方法。 - 前記発光部は、
複数のLED(Light Emitting Diode)、複数のCCFL(Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp)、複数のFED(Field Emission Diode)、及び複数のSED(Surface−conduction Electron−emitter Display)のうち少なくともいずれか一つから構成されることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のディスプレイ装置。
