Description
の範囲に現れる最強ピーク強度IAと、2θ=40〜44°の範囲に現れる最強ピーク強度IBとの強度比IA/IBが0.1以上になった第1の水素吸蔵合金を用いるようにしたため、この第1の水素吸蔵合金における水素吸蔵能力が高く、アルカリ蓄電池における容量が高められる。
実施例1〜7においては、負極を作製するにあたり、第1の水素吸蔵合金として、下記のようにして製造したものを用いるようにした。
らの総和が30重量%のアルカリ水溶液を使用し、それぞれ設計容量が1500mAhで、図2に示すような円筒型になった実施例1〜7の各アルカリ蓄電池を作製した。
比較例1においては、負極を作製するにあたり、水素吸蔵合金として、合金組成が(La0.2Pr0.4Nd0.4)0.83Mg0.17Ni3.03Al0.17Co0.10で、重量平均粒径が65μmになった上記の第1の水素吸蔵合金粉末だけを使用し、それ以外は上記の実施例の場合と同様にして、比較例1のアルカリ蓄電池を作製した。
実施例8では、第2の水素吸蔵合金として、重量平均粒径が53μmで、合金組成が(La0.80Ce0.14Pr0.02Nd0.04)Ni3.49Co0.90Mn0.30Al0.29になった水素吸蔵合金粉末を用いるようにした。なお、この第2の水素吸蔵合金もCaCu5型の結晶構造を有しており、この第2の水素吸蔵合金中におけるCoの含有量は12.2重量%になっていた。

Claims (7)
- 少なくとも希土類元素とマグネシウムとニッケルとアルミニウムと2.0重量%以下のコバルトを含み、Cu−Kα線をX線源とするX線回折測定において2θ=31〜33°の範囲に現れる最強ピーク強度IAと、2θ=40〜44°の範囲に現れる最強ピーク強度IBとの強度比IA/IBが0.1以上になった第1の水素吸蔵合金に、この第1の水素吸蔵合金よりもコバルトの含有量が多い第2の水素吸蔵合金が添加され、
上記の第1及び第2の水素吸蔵合金に含まれる全コバルト量に対する第2の水素吸蔵合金に含まれるコバルト量が25重量%以上であることを特徴とする水素吸蔵合金電極。 - 請求項1に記載した水素吸蔵合金電極において、上記の第1及び第2の水素吸蔵合金に含まれる全コバルト量に対する第2の水素吸蔵合金に含まれるコバルト量が50〜75重量%の範囲であることを特徴とする水素吸蔵合金電極。
- 請求項1〜請求項2の何れか1項に記載した水素吸蔵合金電極において、上記の第1及び第2の水素吸蔵合金の合計量に対する第2の水素吸蔵合金の量が5〜50重量%の範囲であることを特徴とする水素吸蔵合金電極。
- 請求項3に記載した水素吸蔵合金電極において、上記の第1及び第2の水素吸蔵合金の合計量に対する第2の水素吸蔵合金の量が15〜30重量%の範囲であることを特徴とする水素吸蔵合金電極。
- 請求項1〜請求項4の何れか1項に記載した水素吸蔵合金電極において、上記の第2の水素吸蔵合金がCaCu5型の結晶構造を有していることを特徴とする水素吸蔵合金電極。
- 請求項1〜請求項5の何れか1項に記載した水素吸蔵合金電極において、上記の第2の水素吸蔵合金の平均粒径が、第1の水素吸蔵合金の平均粒径よりも小さいことを特徴とする水素吸蔵合金電極。
- 正極と、負極と、セパレータと、アルカリ電解液とを備えたアルカリ蓄電池において、その負極に、請求項1〜請求項6の何れか1項に記載した水素吸蔵合金電極を用いたことを特徴とするアルカリ蓄電池。
