Description
全体的に、反射スポット図は局所化されて不均一である。
先に引用した2003年3月6日出願の米国特許出願第10/383039号明細書に記載されているように、個別層状体中に溝を形成し、個別層状体を集成し、そして微細構造化表面を複製した。米国特許出願第10/383039号は、本出願が優先権を請求する仮特許出願特許出願第60/452464号と同時に出願された。機械加工された層状体はすべて、図6および7に示された形状を有し、側方溝の半角誤差、スキュー角、およびインクリネーション角の変化に基づくわずかな変化を有していた。層状体厚さは0.0075インチ(0.1905mm)であり、側方溝間隔は、直前に記載のわずかな変化を除いて0.005625インチ(0.1428mm)であった。8つのキューブの反復パターンを各層状体上に逐次的に形成した。以下に記載の表10〜14に示されるように、側方溝の半角誤差、スキュー角、およびインクリネーション角を変化させることにより、このキューブ反復パターンを形成した。表中の各列は、個別側方溝の機械加工時に使用したパラメーターを規定している。図22に規定されているキューブコーナー二面角誤差は、各キューブを形成する主要溝表面と交差する2つの隣接している側方溝により形成される。したがって、二面角誤差を画定している列は、それらの隣接している側方溝を明確にすべく、表中で位置をずらして配置されている。
第1の層状体および第2の層状体の側方溝パラメーター(第2の層状体は、第1の層状体に対する対向層状体である)を、それぞれ、表10および11に報告する。主要溝半角誤差は、すべての主要溝で−8分の角度であった。側方溝名目上夾角(直交キューブを生成するのに必要な角度)は、75.226°および104.774°であった。すべての側方溝で夾角誤差は−9.2分の角度であったので、実際の側方溝夾角は75.073°および104.621°であった。側方溝の夾角誤差は一定にしたが、半角誤差は変化させた。表10の第3欄に示されるように、第1の層状体タイプの半角誤差は、−14.8分の角度〜5.6分の角度の範囲内にあった。半角誤差は、各側方溝の2つの半角に対応する2つのグループ(合計すると−9.2分の角度)で示されている。二面角2−3誤差は、隣接している側方溝の半角誤差の組合せから生じ、第4欄にまとめられている。第1の層状体では、二面角2−3誤差を−1.6分の角度から−16.8分の角度まで変化させた。
簡潔にするために、第4、第6、および第8の層状体(それぞれ、第3、第5、および第7の層状体に対向する)の側方溝パラメーターは、反復して記載しない。なぜなら、側方溝パラメーターは、いま説明したように上述した反転関係を有するからである。
第3の層状体の側方溝パラメーターを表12に示す。主要溝半角誤差は、−8分の角度であった。基本的形状(寸法および名目上側方溝夾角)は、第1の層状体タイプと同じであった。この場合にも、すべての側方溝で実際の夾角誤差は、−9.2分の角度であった。第2の層状体タイプ側方溝の半角誤差は、−14.8分の角度〜5.6分の角度の範囲内であった。二面角2−3誤差は、−1.6分の角度から−16.8分の角度まで変化させた。この層状体タイプでは、スキュー角は、−14.0分の角度〜21.3分の角度の範囲内であり、一方、インクリネーション角は、−12.7分の角度から16.8分の角度まで変化させた。1−2および1−3二面角誤差(最後の2つの欄に示される)は、反対に変化させた。
第5の層状体の溝パラメーターを表13に示す。主要溝半角誤差は、−4分の角度であった。基本的形状(寸法および名目上側方溝夾角)は、前述の層状体として同じであった。すべての側方溝で夾角誤差は−1.6分の角度であったので、実際の側方溝夾角は75.199°および104.747°であった。第3の層状体タイプの半角誤差は、−5.2分の角度〜3.6分の角度の範囲内であった。二面角2−3誤差は、−7.2分の角度から4.0分の角度まで変化させた。スキュー角は、−7.0分の角度〜9.5分の角度の範囲内であり、一方、インクリネーション角は、−8.2分の角度から1.4分の角度まで変化させた。1−2および1−3二面角誤差(最後の2つの欄に示される)は、反対に変化させた。
第7の層状体の側方溝パラメーターを表14に示す。主要溝半角誤差は、−4.0分の角度であった。基本的形状(寸法および名目上側方溝夾角)は、第1の層状体タイプと同じであった。この場合にも、すべての側方溝で実際の夾角誤差は、−1.6分の角度であった。半角誤差は、−5.2分の角度〜3.6分の角度の範囲内であった。二面角2−3誤差は、−7.2分の角度から4.0分の角度まで変化させた。この層状体タイプでは、スキュー角は、−5.3分の角度〜5.3分の角度の範囲内であり、一方、インクリネーション角は、−2.1分の角度から4.6分の角度まで変化させた。1−2および1−3二面角誤差(最後の2つの欄に示される)は、反対に変化させた。
Claims (7)
- 一連の側方溝により画定されている面を有するキューブコーナー素子の列を有する再帰反射シートであって、該キューブコーナー素子のそれぞれが、基準平面に対して非平行でありかつ隣接しているキューブコーナー素子の隣接している非二面縁に平行である、少なくとも1つの非二面縁を有しており、ここで、基準平面とは、一群の隣接しているキューブコーナー素子の近傍の平面であって、その平面に沿ってキューブコーナー素子が配設されている、その平面を近似した平面を意味し、該一連の溝のうちの少なくとも2つの溝が、名目上平行超〜1°の範囲内の量だけ非平行である、再帰反射シート。
- 前記素子が0.020インチ未満の横方向寸法を有する、請求項1に記載の再帰反射シート。
- 前記素子が0.010インチ未満の横方向寸法を有する、請求項1に記載の再帰反射シート。
- 溝により画定されている面を有するキューブコーナー微細構造体の列を有する再帰反射シートであって、該キューブコーナー微細構造体のそれぞれが、基準平面に対して非平行でありかつ隣接しているキューブコーナー微細構造体の隣接している非二面縁に平行である、少なくとも1つの非二面縁を有しており、ここで、基準平面とは、一群の隣接しているキューブコーナー微細構造体の近傍の平面であって、その平面に沿ってキューブコーナー微細構造体が配設されている、その平面を近似した平面を意味し、該列内の隣接している溝が、名目上平行超〜1°の範囲内の量だけ非平行であって、少なくとも2°異なる夾角を有し、かつ該側方溝の夾角が反復パターンで配置されており、ここで、90°超の夾角を有する第1のサブセットの側方溝が90°未満の夾角を有する第2のサブセットの側方溝と交互しており、隣接している側方溝角度の合計が180°である、再帰反射シート。
- 前記キューブコーナー微細構造体がキューブコーナー素子を有する、請求項4に記載の再帰反射シート。
- 前記素子がそれぞれ第1の面を有し、かつ該第1の面が主要溝面を画定している、請求項5に記載の再帰反射シート。
- キューブコーナー微細構造体の複数の列を有し、各列の前記キューブコーナー微細構造体が、隣接している列の前記キューブコーナー微細構造体に対して反対向きになっている、請求項4に記載の再帰反射シート。
