例1
並んだ又は平面内の電極構造が、PETプラスチック基板上に180秒間の間、摂氏70度で、MI、ポート・ハロンのエイケソン・コライド社のスクエア当たり50オーム導電性エレクトロダグ423SSグラファイト・インクの硬化されたピースを刻んで作られる。2つの1センチメートル線を作成するため、上述のように線が刻まれた。下に記載される成分を含んだ活動材料が混合された。材料のバルク導電性は、41,667オーム・センチメートルと測定された。材料が基板表面上に手で伸ばされた。厚さが、10ミル又は250ミクロン・ガスケットを使用して設定された。そして、上がスクエア当たり100オームのITO−PETフィルムで被覆された。2つの平面内カーボン電極間に3Vのポテンシャルを印加することにより、ITO基板にどんな電圧を直接に印加せずに1つの電極の直ぐ上のITO表面に、可逆性の高いコントラストのイメージが形成された(すなわち、隣接ピクセルが他を駆動するために使用された)。結線が逆にされると、他の電極の直ぐ上のITO−活動材料境界に発色が生じた。イメージは形成されるのに1秒以下であり、電流の大部分はITO上表面を通じて流れることを示した。READ材料が大変に高抵抗であるため、電流は最小抵抗経路を取り、そして、材料を通り、ITO表面を横断し、他の電極へと流れる。これは、R(活動層)>R(透明電極)で、且つ、間隙の厚さが2つの電極の間の距離よりも小さい限り、動作する。
例1と同じ実験が行われた。上透明基板として、スクエア当たり単に300オームのポリ−3,4−エチレンジオキシチオフェン(PEDOT)のみが使用された。イメージが1秒以下で発生され、大部分の電流がITO上基板をまだ通ることを示した。しかし、コントラストがITOよりも僅かに低いことが認められた(多分、ITOと較べてPEDOTの透明性が減少しているため)。
例1と同じ実験が行われた。上透明基板として、スクエア当たり単に2,600オームのポリ−3,4−エチレンジオキシチオフェン(PEDOT)が使用された。イメージが発生された。しかし、コントラストがITO又はスクエア当たり300オームPEDOTよりも顕著に低く、そしてイメージが形成されるのに5秒かかった。これはITO上基板を通る電流が顕著に減少したことを示す。実用問題として、これらのPEDOTシステムでは、センチメートル当たり10,000オームよりも低い抵抗率を持つ材料の使用は難しいであろう。より高い抵抗率(すなわち、センチメートル当たり25,000オームよりも大きい)が好ましいであろう。

(b)pHの変化が生じる時に色が変化する少なくとも1つの指示薬染料、及び
(c)イオン性導電材料、
そして、オプショナルな成分(d)マトリックス材料を含み、ここで、成分(a)、(b)、(c)及び(d)は互いに異なり、そして成分(a)は電荷が印加される時に優先的に電子移動反応を受け、該活動層の下に位置して互いに隔離された動作電極及び反対電極とを有し、動作電極と反対電極との間の距離は前記電極と前記透明伝導材料との間の前記活動層の厚さの2倍より大きい装置。
Claims (7)
- ディスプレイ装置であって、
底支持層と、
前記底支持層上に形成された1対の離間された電極と、
前記底支持層の上に配された透明電荷伝導層と、
前記底支持層と前記透明電荷伝導層との間のイオン性活動材料から形成された活動層と、
前記透明電荷伝導層の下に配置された電荷輸送材料とを含み、さらに、
前記電荷輸送材料及び前記イオン性活動材料は単一の活動層を形成するものであり、
前記1対の離間された電極は、前記装置の動作電極とその反対電極であり、かつ、
前記動作電極と前記反対電極との間の距離は、前記電極と前記透明電荷伝導層との間にある前記活動層の厚さの2倍よりも大きくなるよう構成され、
前記活動層の全抵抗は、センチメートル当たり1,000オームよりも大きく、前記活動層の抵抗は、前記透明電荷伝導層の抵抗の20倍よりも大きくすることによって、前記電極間に電圧が印加されると電流が前記透明電荷伝導層を流れる
ことを特徴とするディスプレイ装置。 - 前記活動層は、装置のpH勾配を発生するそのプロテイック状態の変化と共に電子移動反応を受ける非水溶液化合物を含む請求項1に記載のディスプレイ装置。
- 前記活動層は、少なくとも1つの指示薬染料を含む請求項2に記載のディスプレイ装置。
- 前記1対の離間された電極は、同じ平面上に配されている請求項1に記載のディスプレイ装置。
- 前記1対の離間された電極の間に形成された絶縁体をさらに含む請求項1に記載のディスプレイ装置。
- 前記非水溶液化合物は、前記1対の離間された電極に電気ポテンシャルが印加された時、電子移動反応を受けるようなものに選択されている請求項2に記載のディスプレイ装置。
- 前記指示薬染料は、pH変化が生ずると色が変化する請求項3に記載のディスプレイ装置。
