Description
The present invention relates to a contact terminal for an IC socket used when an IC package such as a CPU or LSI is mounted on a printed circuit board, and particularly suitable for mounting an LGA package or an BGA package IC package on the printed circuit board. The present invention relates to a socket contact terminal used and a semiconductor device using the same.
Conventionally, a technique for mounting an IC package such as a CPU or LSI on a printed circuit board through a socket has been studied. Many of the semiconductor devices such as personal computers and server motherboards include LGA packages and BGA packages. A socket for mounting the CPU is mounted.
The number of pins and the speed of CPUs are increasing year by year in order to improve the functions and performance of the CPUs.
As a result, it is necessary to handle sockets with a higher pin count, and it is necessary to cope with an increase in the amount of deflection caused by an increase in the size of the package and to deal with variations in the contact land of the package and the height of the ball. Therefore, there is a demand for a structure that can ensure the stroke of the socket contact.
In order to cope with the fine pitch, it is important to reduce the size of the socket contact, and it is desired that the contact between the IC pin and the socket contact can be secured with an appropriate contact pressure.
Further, in order to increase the speed, it is important that the contact has a low inductance, and it is required that the contact resistance is low and the allowable current is high in response to an increase in current consumption due to the increase in speed.
However, in the prior arts disclosed in
In order to solve this problem, for example, a technique disclosed in
However, when using a conductive elastomer as disclosed in
-Since the contact is not metal but elastomer, contact resistance is higher compared to metal contact, and there is a risk that heat generation and voltage drop will increase with increasing current.
-When the package is inserted, since the contact does not wipe the metal land, a new problem occurs such that the removal of the oxide film on the land cannot be expected.
The present invention has been made in view of the above circumstances, and an object of the present invention is to provide an excellent socket contact terminal that can cope with low resistance, high current, and high speed, and a semiconductor device using the same.
In order to achieve the above object, the present invention provides a socket contact terminal for conducting electrical connection between a connection portion made of a metal conductor on a printed circuit board and a connection terminal of an IC package, the main pillar portion and arm portions on both sides. And an elastomer attached to the metal fitting, an outer surface of the arm portion of the metal fitting has an exposed metal surface, and the elastomer is close to the arm portion of the metal fitting. When the arm portion is pressed in the direction to be held, it is sandwiched between the arm portions so as to exert a repulsive force, and a convex portion is provided on the outer surface side of the arm portion of the metal fitting, and the metal fitting has at least a part of the main pillar portion. Provided is a socket contact terminal which is folded and formed thicker than the other part .
In the socket contact terminal according to the present invention, the IC package is preferably an LGA package or a BGA package.
In the socket contact terminal of the present invention, the brackets are der Rukoto is preferable that gold plating is formed on the surface of a base material made of copper or a copper alloy.
In the socket contact terminal of the present invention, the metal is at least a portion of the main column section, Tei Rukoto formed wider than the other portion is preferable.
In the socket contact terminal of the present invention, the metal is at least a part of the main pillar portion is preferably formed to be thicker than the other portion.
In the socket contact terminal of the present invention, it is preferable that the convex portion is formed in a dome shape .
In the socket contact terminal of the present invention, it is preferable that the convex portion has a semi-cylindrical shape.
In the socket contact terminal according to the present invention, it is preferable that the elastomer is fluororubber .
The present invention also provides a semiconductor device comprising the socket contact terminal according to the present invention described above, and a printed circuit board and an IC package electrically connected via the socket contact terminal .
The socket contact terminal of the present invention comprises a U-shaped metal fitting and an elastomer attached to the metal fitting, the metal surface of the outer surface of the arm portion of the metal fitting is exposed, and the elastomer Since the arm portion is clamped between the arm portions so that the repulsive force is exerted when the arm portions are pressed in a direction in which the arm portions of the metal fittings approach each other, the necessary load − It is easy to design according to the displacement characteristics.
In addition, since the metal surface is exposed on the outer surface of the arm part of the metal fitting, it becomes possible to connect any one of the outer surface of the arm part to the connection part and the connection terminal by metal bonding, and between the printed circuit board and the IC package. Low contact resistance connection is possible.
In addition, when current flows through the U-shaped metal fitting, connection can be made with low inductance.
In addition, because the arm sinks into the elastomer with the U-shaped main pillar as a fulcrum, it can realize a wiping function that shifts the position while rubbing against the opposing contact surface when a load is applied. As a result, it is possible to remove the oxide film and foreign matter on the surface of the metal fitting and to connect the fresh metal surfaces.
In addition, since the upper and lower contacts can be realized by connecting with a load, a replaceable socket can be designed, and the maintainability required for server applications is also excellent.
Further, by providing a convex portion on the outer surface of the arm portion of the metal fitting, it can be used with a necessary load-displacement characteristic even for a flat electrode such as a printed circuit board or an LGA package.
In addition, by using a metal fitting with a gold plating formed on the surface of a base material made of copper or a copper alloy, both the ease of processing with a connecting portion made of gold and good electrical contact with a gold land are achieved. An excellent connection structure can be obtained.
In addition, by forming at least a part of the main pillar part of the metal fitting wider than the other part, the electrical resistance can be reduced, and by using the contact terminal for socket as a beam when fixing to the housing, Assembling of the semiconductor device is facilitated, and the mechanical strength of the fixed portion can be increased.
In addition, by forming at least a part of the main pillar part of the metal fitting thicker than the other part, the electrical resistance can be reduced, and when the arm part is pressed, a part of the elastomer is the main part other than the thick plate part. By escaping into the gap with the column part, the elastomer can be made difficult to drop off from the metal fittings.
Moreover, the intensity | strength with respect to a load can be raised by forming the convex part of the arm part outer surface in the dome shape.
In addition, by forming the convex portion on the outer surface of the arm portion into a semi-cylindrical shape, the convex portion can be formed simply by bending the arm portion of the metal fitting, the metal fitting can be easily manufactured, and a low-cost metal fitting can be provided.
Moreover, by forming a part of the main pillar part of the metal fitting thicker than the other part by folding it, the electrical resistance can be reduced, and when the arm part is pressed, a part of the elastomer is a thick plate part. By escaping into the gap with the main pillar part other than, the elastomer can be made difficult to fall off from the metal fittings.
In addition, since the elastomer is made of fluoro rubber, the heat resistance is increased, and when this socket contact terminal is joined to the board or package, the solder can be reflowed, the joining process is simplified, and the production cost is increased. Can be reduced.
The semiconductor device according to the present invention includes the above-described socket contact terminal according to the present invention, and a printed circuit board and an IC package electrically connected via the socket contact terminal. A high-performance apparatus that can cope with the increase in speed and speed can be provided.
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings.
FIG. 1 is a view showing a first embodiment of a socket contact terminal (hereinafter abbreviated as a contact terminal) according to the present invention, FIG. 1 (a) is a side view of the
The
The
The height A of the
As a basic operation, the
Next, the contact operation in the

When the
FIG. 2A shows a state where the
When a load is applied to the
Further, since the
Of course, the height and width dimensions of the
FIG. 3 is a view showing a second embodiment of the contact terminal of the present invention. In FIG. 3, only the
The
In the first embodiment described above, the contact structure in the case where there is a protrusion such as a solder ball on the terminal portion on the IC package side as in the BGA package has been described. However, the IC package is not limited to the BGA package, and the LGA It is also conceivable that the terminal on the IC package side is a land like a package. In addition, like a server socket, there is a case where a contact portion is exchanged at the time of maintenance, so that the printed circuit board side is not soldered and it is desired to connect the land as it is. In such a case, with a shape using a simple U-shaped bracket, the stroke for sinking the contact portion cannot be secured, and the load-stroke characteristic for connection with an appropriate contact resistance is satisfied. I can't. However, if the shape of the contact portion is devised, it can be applied to such a case. The
In the shape of FIG. 3, the contact portion is extruded into a dome shape to form a

5 (a) and 5 (b), it can be seen that the
Further, the
As a result, a space is provided for the
As described above, the contact terminal according to the present invention has a low contact resistance and a low load even when the terminal portion is convex like a BGA package or a flat terminal such as a land of an LGA package or a printed circuit board. A contact terminal capable of realizing a large stroke can be configured.
In addition, the manufacturing of the contact terminal according to the present invention can be applied with a metal part processing technique using an existing press or mold forming. For the plating process, ordinary nickel plating and gold plating techniques can be applied, and these techniques can cope with the fine pitch as much as possible. On the other hand, for the elastomer, a method of extruding a liquid raw material into a plate shape and a method of realizing a necessary shape by injection molding can be applied, and an existing manufacturing technique can also be applied thereto.

The contact terminal according to this embodiment includes the same components as the
