Claims (29)
- 表面に液体を流すための装置であって、
前記表面に向い合う流路と、
前記流路の一端に前記液体を供給する第1のポートであって、前記流路が前記表面から遠く離れており前記装置中の前記液体が前記表面と接触しないときに前記液体を保持する第1のポート圧力を加える第1のポートと、
前記流路の他端から前記液体を受け取り、第2のポート圧力を加える第2のポートとを含み、
前記流路が前記表面の近くに位置し前記装置中の前記液体が前記表面と接触することに応答して、前記第2のポート圧力が前記第1ポート圧力より低いことが、前記流路を介した前記第1のポートから前記第2のポートへの前記液体の流れを促進する向きとなるように構成され、
前記表面からの前記流路の引離しに応答して、前記第2のポート圧力が前記第1ポート圧力より低いことが、前記液体が少なくとも前記第2のポートに向かって引っ張られるように構成され、
前記第1のポートから前記第2のポートへ前記液体を流すための毛菅圧を提供する表面チャネルが前記表面と前記流路との間に画定されるよう構成され、
更に、
前記第1のポートと前記流路の間を連絡する第1の開口と、前記流路と前記第2のポートとの間を連絡する第2の開口とを含み、
前記第1の開口の毛管圧が前記第1のポート圧を提供し、前記第2の開口の毛管圧が前記第2のポート圧を提供する、装置。 - 前記第1のポートに隣接した前記流路中に延び、前記第1のポートから前記表面に向かって前記液体を導く突起を含む、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記突起が弾性体である、請求項2に記載の装置。
- 前記装置が前記表面の近くにあるときに前記表面に対して前記流路を密封する、前記流路の周囲を取り囲む周囲フランジを含む、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記液体による湿潤性が相対的に低い側と、前記液体による湿潤性が相対的に高い側とを含み、前記流路が、湿潤性が相対的に低い側によって周囲を取り囲まれた湿潤性が相対的に高い側に位置する、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記第1のポートおよび前記第2のポートを収容するボディと、前記ボディから突き出して前記流路を形成する延長部分とを含み、前記第1の開口と前記第2の開口が、前記延長部分の反対側の端部に配置されている、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記流路の周囲を取り囲む前記延長部分の側壁の前記液体に対する湿潤性が、前記流路の湿潤性よりも低い、請求項6に記載の装置。
- 前記第1のポートが、前記第1のポート圧力を加えるための前記第1のポート内に延びる第1の毛管網を含む、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記第1の毛管網が、複数の平行毛管部材、メッシュ、多孔質材料および繊維状材料のうちの少なくとも1つを含む、請求項8に記載の装置。
- 前記第2のポートが、前記第2のポート圧力を加えるための前記第2のポート内に延びる第2の毛管網を含む、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記第2の毛管網が、複数の平行毛管部材、メッシュ、多孔質材料および繊維状材料のうちの少なくとも1つを含む、請求項10に記載の装置。
- それぞれが前記流路に結合された複数の第1のポートを含む、請求項1に記載の装置。
- それぞれが前記流路に結合された複数の第2のポートを含む、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記流路が曲線状の断面を有する、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記流路が長方形の断面を有する、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記装置の前記第1及び第2のポート、前記流路を含む部分が、エラストマー、シリコン、フォトレジスト、熱可塑性樹脂、セラミックおよび金属のうちの任意の1つから形成された、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記装置の前記第1及び第2のポート、前記流路を含む部分が積層構造である、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記装置のそれぞれの層が、エラストマー、シリコン、フォトレジスト、熱可塑性樹脂、金属およびセラミックのうちの1つから形成された、請求項17に記載の装置。
- 前記流路の長さが100マイクロメートル、幅が100マイクロメートルであり、第1および第2のポートの容積がそれぞれ500ナノリットルであり、使用中、前記突起が、前記装置と前記表面との間の1から10マイクロメートルの範囲の間隔を画定する、請求項2に記載の装置。
- 前記第1および第2のポート圧力が、前記表面からの前記流路の引離しに応答して前記液体が前記第1のポートおよび前記第2のポートに向かって引っ張られる圧力である、請求項1に記載の装置
- 表面に液体を流すための方法であって、
請求項1に記載の装置の第1のポートから前記装置の前記表面に向い合う流路の一端に前記液体を供給するステップと、
前記第1のポートを介して前記液体に第1のポート圧力を加えるステップと、
前記流路の他端から前記装置の第2のポート中に前記液体を受け取るステップと、
前記第2のポートを介して前記液体に、前記第1のポート圧力とは異なる第2のポート圧力を加えるステップと、
前記流路が前記表面の近くに位置しその中の前記液体が前記表面と接触することに応答し、前記第2のポート圧力を前記第1ポート圧力より低くすることによって、前記第1のポートから前記第2のポートへ前記流路を介しての前記液体の流れを促進するステップと、
前記第2のポート圧力を前記第1ポート圧力より低くすることによって、前記表面からの前記流路の引離しに応答して前記液体を少なくとも前記第2のポートに向かって引っ張るステップとを含み、
前記第1のポートから前記第2のポートへ前記液体を流すための毛管圧を提供する表面チャネルが前記表面と前記流路との間に画定される、方法。 - 前記表面から前記流路を引き離した後で、前記表面上の別の位置に前記装置を再配置するステップをさらに含む、請求項21に記載の方法。
- 前記表面から前記流路を引き離した後で、別の表面に前記装置を再配置するステップをさらに含む、請求項21に記載の方法。

- 前記第1のポートから前記第2のポートへの前記液体の前記流れを開始させるために、前記装置と前記表面との間に電場を印加して前記液体を刺激するステップを含む、請求項21に記載の方法。
- 前記第1のポートから前記第2のポートへの前記液体の前記流れを開始させるために、前記液体に圧力パルスを加えて前記液体を刺激するステップを含む、請求項21に記載の方法。
- 前記液体の蒸発によって前記第1のポートから前記第2のポートへの前記液体の前記流れを開始させるために、前記液体に熱パルスを加えて前記液体を刺激するステップを含む、請求項21に記載の方法。
- 前記第1のポートと前記第2のポートとの間の圧力差を逆にすることによって前記液体の流れの方向を逆にするステップを含む、請求項21に記載の方法。
