Description
発色剤
本発明の発色組成物は、ポリマーマトリックス内に分散させることができる(例えば、溶解又は混合させ得る)発色剤を含み得る。これは、混合、回転、粉砕、均質化等のような任意の既知の方法により実施し得る。多くの場合、ポリマーマトリックス全体にわたって発色剤を一様に分散させることが望ましい。ポリマーマトリックス内に発色剤を分散させることにより、アンテナ及び/又は他のエネルギー移動材料(これらは、以下に、より詳細に説明する)と発色剤との接触を増大させることが可能となる。さらに、ポリマーマトリックス内の発色剤の分散物は単一組成物、例えばペーストとして形成することができ、それは、単一工程にて基材上にコーティングすることができる。通常、発色組成物は、発色剤及び放射線アンテナを加熱して実質的に均質の融解物を形成した後に冷却することにより形成することができる。このようにして、放射線アンテナは、発色剤と一様に混合されて、マーキング速度及び画像品質を改善させることができる。しかしながら、場合によっては、構成成分は、融解物を生ずることなく十分に混合させることができる。緊密な混合物を調製するのに一般的に使用されるプロセスは、ボールミル粉砕、マイクロ流動化(microfluidization)、超音波処理、マイクロ波処理、並びに米国特許第5,976,232号(参照することで、本書に取り入れることとする)に記載されるようなAPV均質化技法を用いた高圧均質化である。他の方法としては、Netzsch LMCミル及びDrais DCPミルのような従来の媒体ミル設計において改良を伴う粉砕プロセスの変形方法が挙げられる。これらのミルは、より大きな粉砕媒体と250〜300マイクロメートル程度と小さい粉砕基材粒子との物理的な分離(例えば、濾過)を可能にする、より小さなスクリーン開口寸法を組み込んでおり、本発明で用いる緊密な混合物を調製するのに使用することができる。
放射線アンテナ
効率的なエネルギー吸収剤として作用する放射線アンテナは、所定の暴露時間及び/又は波長での放射線への暴露時に発色組成物の現像を最適化するのに使用することができる構成成分として、発色組成物中に含有させることができる。放射線アンテナは、エネルギーアンテナとして作用することができ、エネルギー源との相互作用時に周囲領域にエネルギーを供給する。放射線アンテナにより所定量のエネルギーを供給し得るため、使用する具体的アンテナに対して放射線の波長及び強度を調和させることにより、所望の最適範囲内にシステムを最適化することができる。最も一般的な商業用途では、約200nm〜約1200nmの現像波長に対し最適化することが必要となるが、この範囲外の波長もまた、放射線アンテナ及び発色組成物をそれ相応に調節することにより利用することができる。幾つかの一般的な現像波長としては、405nm、650nm、780nm及び1084nmを挙げることができる。
安定剤
本発明によれば、発色組成物は、現像剤(developer)又は安定剤をさらに包含することができる。特定の理論に囚われるわけではないが、現像剤は、発色剤との反応において色変化を促進することが可能である。安定剤は、現像状態での発色剤を安定化させることができ、且つ/又は発色剤の現像を促進するための活性化剤として作用することができる。多くの場合、単一の構成成分が両方の機能を成し得る。詳細には、本発明の幾つかの実施形態では、スピロ染料は、例えばUV又はポリマーマトリックス及び/又は付随する放射線アンテナ中への分散に少なくとも部分的に起因して、もはや光発色性ではない。適切な安定剤としては、発色剤の現像を促進することができ、且つ/又は発色剤が閉形態、即ち未現像形態へと戻るのを防止することができる任意の作用物質を挙げることができる。安定剤の非限定例としては、亜鉛塩(例えば、ステアリン酸亜鉛、ヘキサン酸亜鉛、サリチル酸亜鉛、酢酸亜鉛)、カルボン酸塩(例えば、モノブチルフタル酸カルシウム及びカルシウムレジメート(CAS 9007−13−0)、フェノール化合物(例えば、ビスフェノールA、スルホニルジフェノール、TG−SA)及びそれらの亜鉛塩又はカルシウム塩を挙げることができる。一般的な指針として、本発明の発色組成物は、約5重量%〜約40重量%の現像剤/安定剤を含むことができる。好ましくは、総組成物の約10重量%〜約20重量%が安定剤から成る。
ポリマーマトリックス
本発明の発色組成物は、通常、主としてバインダとして作用するポリマーマトリックスを包含し得る。上述のように、発色剤相は、ポリマーマトリックス内に分散させることができる。様々なポリマーマトリックス材料は、現像速度、光安定性、並びに組成物を現像させるのに用い得る波長のような、発色組成物の現像特性に影響を及ぼし得る。許容し得るポリマーマトリックス材料としては、一例として、光パッケージ(photo package)の一部として含まれるようなUV硬化性ポリマー(アクリレート誘導体)、オリゴマー及びモノマーを挙げることができる。光パッケージは、ラッカーの硬化反応を開始させる光吸収性種を含み得る。かかる光吸収性種は、一例としてベンゾフェノン誘導体のような、UV又は電子ビーム硬化システムを用いた硬化に関して応答し得る。フリーラジカル重合モノマー及びプレポリマー用の光開始剤の他の例としては、限定はしないが、チオキサントン誘導体、アントラキノン誘導体、アセトフェノン及びベンゾインエーテルを挙げることができる。水若しくは溶媒中の分散物、溶液、固体融解物として調製、コーティングされるマトリックス材料の他の例としては、ポリビニルアルコール、塩化ポリビニル、ポリビニルブチラール、セルロースエステル及びセルロースアセテートブチレートのようなブレンド、スチレン、ブタジエン、エチレンのポリマー、ポリカーボネート、ビニルカーボネートのポリマー(例えば、CR39)(ピッツバーグのPPG Industriesから入手可能)、並びにアクリル系モノマー及びアリルカーボネートモノマーのコポリマー(例えば、BX−946)(コネチカット州ストラトフォードのHampford Researchから入手可能)が挙げられる。これらの構成成分は、これらのマトリックス中に溶解、分散、粉砕及び配置することができ、また、溶媒若しくはキャリアの蒸発、真空加熱、乾燥及び光を用いた処理のような、一般的に知られているプロセスを利用してフィルムを形成させることができる。
他の任意成分
本発明の発色組成物はまた、界面活性剤、着色剤、液体ビヒクル、安定剤、UV吸収剤、退色防止剤、可塑剤、ロイコ染料、非発色剤染料及び当業者に既知の他の添加剤のような様々な追加の構成成分を含むことができる。
現像用放射線の適用
本発明の一実施形態では、発色組成物は、基材に適用することができる。組成物は、スピンコーティング、スクリーン印刷、スパッタリング、スプレーコーティング、インクジェット等のような任意の既知の技法を利用して、基材に適用することができる。光ディスク、高分子表面、ガラス、セラミック、金属又は紙のような各種基材を使用することができる。一実施形態では、発色組成物は、レーザ又は他の放射線源を使用して現像される光ディスク又はそれらの選択部に適用することができる。
Claims (16)
- a)スピロ染料である発色剤、
b)前記発色剤と混合されているか又は熱的に接触している放射線アンテナであって、ここで放射線アンテナは発色剤を少なくとも部分的に現像させるのに十分なエネルギーをもたらすことができ、アルミニウムキノリン錯体、ポルフィリン、ポルフィン、インドシアニン色素、フェノキサジン誘導体、フタロシアニン色素、ポリメチルインドリウム色素、ポリメチン色素、グアイアズレニル色素、クロコニウム色素、ポリメチンインドリウム色素、金属錯体IR色素、シアニン色素、スクアリリウム色素、カルコゲノ−ピリロアリーリデン色素、インドリジン色素、ピリリウム色素、キノイド色素、キノン色素、アゾ色素及びそれらの混合物又は誘導体からなる群より選択される放射線アンテナ、及び
c)融解助剤であって、現像時間を低減させ且つ適用される放射線源に対する前記発色剤の感度を増大させることが可能であり、且つ前記融解助剤が、50℃〜150℃の融解温度を有する有機固形物である融解助剤、
を含む、発色組成物。 - 前記スピロ染料が、スピロピラン、スピロベンゾピラン、スピロインドリノベンゾピラン、スピロベンゾピラノベンゾピラン、スピロナフトキサジン、スピロチオピラン、スピロベンゾピラノピラン、スピロベンゾチオラジン(spirobenzothiolazine)、ペリミジンスピロシクロヘキサジエノン、スピロ[ベンゾジチオラン]ベンゾピラン及びそれら組合せから成る群から選択される成分である、請求項1に記載の発色組成物。
- 現像状態における前記発色剤の安定化を可能にする安定剤をさらに含み、前記安定剤が、亜鉛ベースの塩、カルボン酸塩、フェノール系化合物、カルボン酸塩、カルシウム塩及びそれらの組合せから成る群から選択される成分である、請求項1に記載の発色組成物。
- 前記融解助剤が、芳香族炭化水素、フェノール系エーテル、芳香族酸−エステル、6個以上の炭素を有する長鎖脂肪酸エステル、ポリエチレンワックス及びそれらの誘導体から成る群から選択される成分を含む、請求項1に記載の発色組成物。
- a)画像データソースと、
b)その上に発色組成物がコーティングされた基材であって、前記発色組成物が、
i)スピロ染料である発色剤、
ii)前記発色剤と混合されるているか又は熱的に接触している放射線アンテナであって、ここで放射線アンテナは発色剤を少なくとも部分的に現像させるのに十分なエネルギーをもたらすことができ、アルミニウムキノリン錯体、ポルフィリン、ポルフィン、インドシアニン色素、フェノキサジン誘導体、フタロシアニン色素、ポリメチルインドリウム色素、ポリメチン色素、グアイアズレニル色素、クロコニウム色素、ポリメチンインドリウム色素、金属錯体IR色素、シアニン色素、スクアリリウム色素、カルコゲノ−ピリロアリーリデン色素、インドリジン色素、ピリリウム色素、キノイド色素、キノン色素、アゾ色素及びそれらの混合物又は誘導体からなる群より選択される放射線アンテナ、及び
iii)融解助剤であって、現像時間を低減させ且つ適用される放射線源に対する前記発色剤の感度を増大させることが可能であり、且つ前記融解助剤が、50℃〜150℃の融解温度を有する有機固形物である融解助剤、
を含んで成る、基材と、
c)前記画像データソースに操作可能に接続されており且つ現像波長の電磁放射線を前記発色組成物に誘導するように構成された電磁放射線源と、
を含む、基材をラベリングするためのシステム。 - 前記現像波長が、200nm〜1200nmである、請求項5に記載のシステム。
- 前記電磁放射線源が、レーザである、請求項5に記載のシステム。
- 前記レーザが、0.3J/cm2から3.0J/cm2未満にて電磁放射線を適用するように構成される、請求項7に記載のシステム。
- 前記スピロ染料が、スピロピラン、スピロベンゾピラン、スピロインドリノベンゾピラン、スピロベンゾピラノベンゾピラン、スピロナフトキサジン、スピロチオピラン、スピロベンゾピラノピラン、スピロベンゾチオラジン及びそれら組合せから成る群から選択される成分である、請求項5に記載のシステム。
- 前記発色組成物が、現像状態における前記発色剤の安定化を可能にする安定剤をさらに含む、請求項5に記載のシステム。
- 前記基材が、光ディスクである、請求項5に記載のシステム。
- 基材上にカラー画像を形成する方法であって:
a)基材上に発色組成物を適用することであって、前記発色組成物が、
i)ポリマーマトリックス、
ii)スピロ染料である発色剤、
iii)前記発色剤と混合されているか又は熱的に接触している放射線アンテナであって、ここで放射線アンテナは発色剤を少なくとも部分的に現像させるのに十分なエネルギーをもたらすことができ、アルミニウムキノリン錯体、ポルフィリン、ポルフィン、インドシアニン色素、フェノキサジン誘導体、フタロシアニン色素、ポリメチルインドリウム色素、ポリメチン色素、グアイアズレニル色素、クロコニウム色素、ポリメチンインドリウム色素、金属錯体IR色素、シアニン色素、スクアリリウム色素、カルコゲノ−ピリロアリーリデン色素、インドリジン色素、ピリリウム色素、キノイド色素、キノン色素、アゾ色素及びそれらの混合物又は誘導体からなる群より選択される放射線アンテナ、及び
iv)融解助剤であって、現像時間を低減させ且つ適用される放射線源に対する前記発色剤の感度を増大させることが可能であり、且つ前記融解助剤が、50℃〜150℃の融解温度を有する有機固形物である融解助剤、
を含み、前記発色組成物が、現像波長を有する電磁放射線を用いた現像に関して最適化されている、適用すること;及び
b)前記発色組成物を分解することなく、前記発色剤を現像するのに十分な現像波長の電磁放射線を前記発色組成物に対して適用すること、
を包含する、方法。 - 前記現像波長が、200nm〜1200nmである、請求項12に記載の方法。
- 前記電磁放射線源が、レーザである、請求項12に記載の方法。
- 前記スピロ染料が、スピロピラン、スピロベンゾピラン、スピロインドリノベンゾピラン、スピロベンゾピラノベンゾピラン、スピロナフトキサジン、スピロチオピラン、スピロベンゾピラノピラン、スピロベンゾチオラジン及びそれら組合せから成る群から選択される成分である、請求項12に記載の方法。
- 前記発色組成物が、100μ秒〜500μ秒間適用される電磁放射線を用いた現像に関して最適化されている、請求項12に記載の方法。
