Description
アルカリ電解質における再充電可能な亜鉛電極の働きは、亜鉛電極の組成および電解質との反応を含む数多くの研究の対象であった。亜鉛電極の働きを抑制する損傷は、繰り返して使用することが進むにつれて発生する。最も明らかな影響は、使用可能な電圧において発揮されるアンペア−アワー容量が許容可能な容量を下回るということである。この傾向は、かなりの数のアプローチによって阻止された。より希釈された水酸化カリウム電解質を、水酸化カルシウムを添加するとともに、亜鉛電極に組み合わせることは、特に有効であることが明らかになっている(1982年11月9日にジョーンズに発行された米国特許第4358517号)。代わりのアプローチにおいては、フッ化物の添加を伴うまたは伴わない緩衝電解質を用いることにより、結果として亜鉛電極の寿命スパンも向上させてきた。これらのアプローチのなかで注目に値するのは、1995年9月26日にアドラーらに発行された米国特許第5453336号に記載されたものである。これによれば、0.5−4Mの炭酸塩および0.5−4Mのフッ化物と組み合わせられたアルカリ電解質(2−12M)の混合物が特に有効であるということが教示されている。1981年6月16日にカールソンに発行された米国特許第4273841号には、5−10%の水酸化物、10−20%のリン酸塩、および5−15%のフッ化物を用いる別の混合物が記載されている。アイゼンバーグは、2つの電解質の配合について、1980年9月23日に発行された米国特許第4224391号および1993年6月1日に発行された米国特許第5215836号において述べている。両方とも、水酸化カリウムと、ホウ酸、リン酸、またはヒ酸との混合物を用いる。但し、後者の特許には、0.01〜1Mの範囲におけるアルカリフッ化物の優位性について述べられている。これは、よりアルカリ性の強い電解質と組み合わせて実施されるべきである。
Claims (4)
- アルカリ電解質を備える高エネルギー密度の電池に用いる亜鉛電極組成物であって、前記亜鉛電極組成物が、
酸化亜鉛と、
バインダーと、
1%〜10%の酸化ビスマスと、
0.1〜10%のフッ化物であって、ベリリウム、マグネシウム、カルシウム、ストロンチウム、バリウム、チタン、アルミニウム、およびそれらの組み合わせからなる群から選択された元素のフッ化物と、
を含むことを特徴とする亜鉛電極組成物。 - アルカリ電解質を備える高エネルギー密度の電池に用いる亜鉛電極組成物であって、前記亜鉛電極組成物が、
酸化亜鉛と、
バインダーと、
1%〜10%の酸化ビスマスと、
0.1〜10%のフッ化物であって、チタン、アルミニウム、およびそれらの組み合わせからなる群から選択された元素のフッ化物と、
を含むことを特徴とする亜鉛電極組成物。 - 請求項1または請求項2に記載の亜鉛電極組成物を含む電極を備える電気化学電池であって、前記電池が、さらに、水酸化ナトリウム、水酸化カリウム、および水酸化リチウムと、ホウ酸との混合物を含む電解質を備えており、
過度のアルカリ水酸化物が2.7〜5Mの範囲で存在するとともに、ホウ酸の濃度が1リットル当たり0.6〜1.3モルの間であることを特徴とする電気化学電池。 - 請求項3に記載の電気化学電池であって、前記電解質は、リチウムイオンを0.1〜3Mの濃度で含むことを特徴とする電気化学電池。
