Description
また、面状照明装置の一形態として、透光性を有する導光板と、該導光板の側端面に配置された棒状光源もしくは1つないし複数の点状光源を基本要素として構成されたサイドライト方式の面状照明装置が広く用いられている。近年の傾向では、携帯情報端末等の小型の電子機器への応用例の増加から、駆動回路の簡略化を図ることが可能な点状光源を備える形式の面状照明装置が用いられており、このような点状光源として白色LED(以下、単にLEDともいう)が多用されている。
この面状照明装置は、LEDチップ202の大きさに対して比較的広く形成された端子板203〜205を有し、また、反射ケース201が導光板の短辺に対応する長さ寸法を有することから、上述したような、LEDの放熱性および入光面からの内部反射光の漏出の問題に対して、一定の効果を奏することが予想される。
これによって、LEDの発光面と導光板の入光面との密着性が増大すると共に、LEDから導光板へと入光した光の発光分布を、LED単体での光の発光分布と同等のものにすることが可能となり、面状照明装置の輝度の均一化に寄与することとなる。
図1は、本発明の一実施形態における面状照明装置を示す図であり、(a)はその平面図、(b)は(a)に示す面状照明装置で使用されるLEDを、前面側から見た平面図である。図1(a)に示す面状照明装置10は、導光板2と、導光板2の一側端面である入光面3に配置されるLED15とを備えている。ここで、導光板2は、例えばアクリル樹脂、ポリカーボネート樹脂、非晶性ポリオレフィン樹脂等の透光性樹脂を、好ましくは射出成形してなる板状の導光体であり、導光板2の入光面3には、後述するLED15の突出部17aの形状に倣った切欠き部3aが形成されている。
この場合、LED30は、導光板2の入光面3に対して、入光面3と電極パターン22、23との間に基部17bの厚み分だけの僅かな間隙を有して配置されるものであってもよい。あるいは、LED40の透光性樹脂17を突出部17aのみによって構成するか、または、導光板2の入光面3の切欠き部3aを基部17bまで含めた外形に倣って形成し、電極パターン22、23を入光面3に密着させて配置するものであってもよい。これらの配置態様は、LED30の放熱性、LED30の電極パターン22、23の保護等について勘案の上、適宜選択されるものである。
Claims (4)
- 導光板(2)と、該導光板の側端面(3)に配置されるLED(15,30,40)とを備える面状照明装置(10)において、
前記LED(15,30,40)は、電極パターン(22,23)が形成された基板(16)と、該基板上に搭載されたLEDチップ(21)と、該LEDチップを封止する透光性樹脂(17)とを有し、該透光性樹脂(17)は、ランプハウスを持たずに外部に露出しており、前記LED(15,30,40)は、前記導光板(2)の、前記LED(15,30,40)と対向する側端面(3)の長手方向寸法にほぼ等しい横幅と、前記導光板(2)の厚みにほぼ等しい高さを有し、前記LEDの発光面(18)によって前記導光板(2)の前記側端面(3)の全面が覆われることを特徴とする面状照明装置。 - 前記LED(15,30,40)の電極パターン(22,23)は、前記基板(16)のほぼ全面に渡って形成されていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の面状照明装置。
- 前記電極パターン(22,23)の少なくとも一部は、前記LEDチップ(21)を封止する透光性樹脂(17)に積層されることなく外部に露出していることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の面状照明装置。
- 前記LEDチップ(21)を封止する透光性樹脂(17)は、その外形が前記LED(15,30,40)の光出射方向前方へと突出する円筒面で構成される部分(17a)を有しており、前記導光板(2)の、前記LEDと対向する側端面(3)に、前記円筒面で構成された突出部(17a)の外形に倣った切欠き部(3a)が形成されていることを特徴とする請求項1から3のいずれか1つに記載の面状照明装置。
