Description
本発明の属する技術分野は、医療結像システムに関するものであり、特に、結像変換器の結像解像度を高めるためのシステムと方法とに関する。
低侵襲的処置を用いる、腔内,空洞内,血管内,心臓内の治療と病状の診断とは、医療行為の様々な分野において、有効な手段である。これらの処置は、典型的には、結像と治療カテーテルとを用いて行われる。治療カテーテルは、経皮的に体内へ差し込まれ、且つ、大腿動脈のような、診断、及び/又は、治療されるべき血管や臓器から離れたところにある、脈管系の利用しやすい血管に差し込まれる。カテーテルは、その後、脈管系の血管を通り、治療されるべき体内領域へと進められる。カテーテルは、結像装置、典型的には、超音波結像装置を備えている。結像装置は、動脈の狭窄領域のような、体の病変部分を見つけ、診断するのに用いられる。例えば、Hamm等による米国特許No.5,368,035には、引例としてここに全開示内容が取り込まれるものであるが、血管内の超音波結像変換器を有しているカテーテルが、開示されている。
改良された結像装置は、血管の内腔で用いることを想定している。一般に、結像装置は、1又は2以上のエネルギービームを放射できる、結像変換器を備えている。本発明のある実施例では、結像変換器は、シースに囲まれている。ここで、シースは、結像変換器が1又は2以上のエネルギービームを放射した時、1又は2以上のビームがシースを出ると同時に、シースが該1又は2以上のビームの幅を狭めるように、構成されている。
上に列挙したものと、本発明の他の利点や目的とが、どのようにして得られるのかについて、より良く認識するため、上に簡単に説明した本発明の、より詳細な説明が、添付の図面に説明されている具体的な実施例を、参照することによって解釈される。図中の構成要素は、必ずしも縮尺比に従うものではなく、本発明の原理を示すために、強調して示されている。更に、図面では、同じ参照番号が、異なる図面にわたり、対応する部分に記されている。しかし、同様の部品に常に同じ参照番号が付されているとは限らない。しかし、全ての図面は、寸法、形状、他の属性に関して、そのまま又は正確にその通りのものを示すのではなく、むしろ、概略図が示されている、という概念を示唆するものである。
以下の説明は、改良された結像装置についてのものである。
図1bには、湾曲面を有しているシース5の、内腔にある従来の結像変換器アッセンブリ1の遠位端の断面図が、示されている。シース5の目的は、一般には、結像環境から結像変換器アッセンブリ1を隔離することである。シース5は、望ましい、超音波発光状態であり、これによって、結像変換器アッセンブリ1から放射された音響ビーム60が歪まないようになっている。典型的には、ビーム60がシース5を出ると同時に、ビーム60の幅は、実質一定になる。

Claims (13)
- カテーテルと、結像装置とを包含している人体用結像システムであり、
カテーテルが、内腔を定めるシースを有しており、前記シースは、多重シース層によって形成され、
結像装置が、少なくとも1つの超音波ビームを放射するようになっており、前記結像装置が、前記シースの内腔に設けられており、
前記シースの多重シース層の各層の位相速度は、その内側に隣接した層の位相速度よりも速く、それにより、前記結像装置によって放射された少なくとも1つの超音波ビームが前記多重シース層の各層を通過するたびに、少なくとも1つの超音波ビームの屈折角が増大し、その結果、前記シースは、前記結像装置によって放射された少なくとも1つの超音波ビームを狭めるように形成されている、結像システム。 - 前記シースが、内腔の位相速度よりも速い、位相速度を有している、請求項1に記載の結像システム。
- 前記シースが、1.5mm/μsec以上の位相速度を有している、請求項2に記載の結像システム。
- 前記シースが、前記少なくとも1つの超音波ビームを狭めるような厚みを有している、請求項1に記載の結像システム。
- 更に、前記シースの内腔に媒体を包含しており、媒体が、前記シースの位相速度よりも遅い位相速度を有している、請求項1に記載の結像システム。
- 前記シースが、円筒形である、請求項1に記載の結像システム。
- 前記結像装置を覆う前記シースの部分が、球状になっている、請求項1に記載の結像システム。
- 前記結像装置が、結像変換器を含んでいる、請求項1に記載の結像システム。
- 前記結像装置が、前記少なくとも1つの超音波ビームを放射する超音波放射手段を備えている、請求項1に記載の結像システム。
- 前記シースが、前記結像装置からの前記少なくとも1つの超音波ビームを狭める手段を備えており、これによって、前記少なくとも1つの狭められた超音波ビームが結像装置を出て、人体の一部分に影響を及ぼすようになっている、請求項1に記載の結像システム。
- 前記シースが、前記少なくとも1つの超音波ビームを狭める湾曲面を有している、請求項1に記載の結像システム。
- 前記シースの直径が1mmであり、前記シースの厚みが少なくとも0.18mmである、請求項11に記載の結像システム。
- 前記シースが、前記少なくとも1つの超音波ビームが前記シースを出ると同時に狭まるような曲率半径を有している、請求項1に記載の結像システム。
