Description
(1)凹面鏡の焦点を通過する入射光は、鏡面によって反射された後、光軸と平行に進行する。
(2)光軸と平行に入射した光は、鏡面によって反射された後、焦点を通過して進行する。
図1は本発明の一つの実施例による、二つの2次元放物線状の凹面鏡を利用した光空洞に関する図である。
上記の(1)と(2)の特性を持つ凹面鏡の関数を導出するため、簡単な微分方程式を利用することにする。
が成立するので、(x、y)は(1)式のような方程式を満足する。
- 光軸(図2でのx軸)に平行に入射した光は、2次放物線曲線の凹面鏡によって反射され、焦点(図2の原点(O))を通過する。
- 焦点を通過して入射した光は、2次放物線曲線の凹面鏡によって反射され、光軸と平行に進行する。
以下、光空洞の特性について図3を利用して説明する。ここで、光空洞は、互いに焦点距離は異なるが焦点と光軸を共有する、互いに向き合うように配置された二つの放物線状凹面鏡を利用する。
とする。光源から放出された光は閉鎖された光空洞で1回循環(A0 304 → B0 307 → C0 308 → D0 309)を経て、A1に到達する。その後、光は類似のルート(A2 → A3 →A4 ... An → ... A∞)を進む。前述したようにA∞は(p, 0)であり、この点に検出器を位置させる。このようなAN座標を求めることで、光空洞内部での光の進行特性を特定することができる。そのため、AN、BN、CN、及びDNを(7)式のように定義する。
光空洞のAn-1→Anの光経路の長さを循環長さL(An)とし、L(An)を求めてみる。L(An)を求めることの目的は、光源から放出された光が光検出器に到達するまでの光経路の全長を算出することである。すなわち、光空洞内で光が1回循環する間の経路の長さを繰り返し求め、それを合算することで、光経路の全長を求める。光経路の全長は気体センサーの性能を左右する非常に重要な因子であり、その分析方法を知っていれば、用途別に気体センサーを製造する際、少ない費用で最も効率の良い気体センサーの製造が可能になる。
本発明において、光空洞内で進行する光は、(16)式により、光空洞内で循環して、光軸に収斂する。(16)式で分かるように、Tの条件により収斂の速度を調整できる。つまり、Tが-1に近いほど収斂速度は低下し、Tが-1であると無限ループ(loop)となる。また、Tが0に近いほど収斂速度は増加する。
したがって、本発明の気体セルを製造する場合、(29)式からp及びp’の条件を適用し、これに従い(32)式から光の循環の回数を算出する。例えばL1=4mm、L2=4mm、p=10mm、p'=9mmの条件下で光空洞を製造する場合、この条件は(29)式を満足し、(32)式からの循環回数N=7が求められる。これを(26)式に代入すると光空洞内での光経路の全長は約532mmと算出される。
効率の良い気体セルを製造すべく気体の濃度を測定する際には、光源から放出される光の強度が大きいほど好ましい。しかし、光源の発光物質の物性の限界と光源の寿命などを考慮すると、所望の強度の光を利用することは難しい。よって、制限された強度の光を最も効率的に利用するために、等方的に放射される光を一つの方向に集めるべく、凸レンズや凹面鏡などを利用して光源から放出された光を光空洞の共通焦点に集める方法などがある。凸レンズや凹面鏡を利用する場合、理論上は光を一つの焦点に集められるが、実際には光を一つの点を通過させることは現実的に非常に難しい。また、このような事に製造の主眼点をおく場合、気体セルの製造に費用と時間が必要となる場合もあろう。また、多くの努力を重ね光を一つの点を通過できるようにしたとしても、外部の衝撃や製造過程での小さなミスにより気体セル内部の光学システムが位置ずれしてしまうと光源から放出された光が焦点から外れて進行する事もある。このような場合、光検出器に到達する光量が減少するため、測定の効率が落ち、結局は性能の低下をきたす。

本発明により製造した光空洞の分析方法を(26)、(29)、(32)式を適用して説明する。
焦点距離が各々p=15mm及びp’=13.5mmとして与えられ、ビーム径(L1)と光検出器の径(L2)が各々L1=4mm及びL2=4mmである光空洞を製造した場合、まず、(29)式を利用して、ビーム径と光検出器のサイズの重複度合いを調べる。ここでは、T = -0.9であるため、
となり、(29)式の条件を満足する。そして、(32)式を利用して、循環の回数を算出すると次のようになる。
すなわち、光経路の長さは、約114cmと算出される。
Claims (12)
- 二つの凹面鏡を互いに向き合うように配置することで形成される、光学的に閉鎖された光空洞を具備し、光空洞内に入射された光が互いに向き合う上記二つの凹面鏡に交互に反射され、上記二つの凹面鏡は放物線状の凹面鏡であり、上記放物線状の凹面鏡の各放物線は焦点と光軸を共有することを特徴とする気体セル。
- 上記放物線状の凹面鏡の各放物線は焦点距離が互いに異なり、焦点距離が長い方の凹面鏡上の任意の点に光源を設けることにより、該光源から焦点に向かって放射された光が、上記二つの放物線状凹面鏡によって反射されながら上記光空洞内を循環した後に、上記光軸に収斂しうることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の気体セル。
- 上記各放物線の焦点距離の比に応じて、光の経路が変化することを特徴とする、請求項2に記載の気体セル。
- 上記光源から光空洞へ入射された光を検出するための光検出器を具備し、
上記光検出器で検出されるまでの上記光空洞内の光の経路の長さ(L)は次の式
L = 4Np(1-T) = 4N(p+p’)
(N=光の循環回数、p, p'=各放物線の焦点距離、T=-p'/p)
により決定されることを特徴とする、請求項2に記載の気体セル。 - 上記光源の位置をA0 = (α0, β0)とし、上記光空洞を一回循環した光が凹面鏡によって反射される、該凹面鏡上の点の位置をA1 = (α1, β1)とし、上記光空洞をN回循環した光を検出する上記光検出器の位置をAN = (αN, βN)とした場合、上記光のビーム径と上記光検出器の断面半径が次の式
β0 - β1 > L1/2 + (L1/2)sinθ 及び βN > L2/2
(L1=光のビーム径、L2=上記光検出器の断面半径、θ=上記光軸の法線方向に対する上記光源からの光の入射角)
を満足することを特徴とする、請求項4に記載の気体セル。 - 二つの凹面鏡を互いに向き合うように配置し、光学的に閉鎖された光空洞を形成するステップと、
上記光空洞に光源を設置するステップと、
上記光源から上記光空洞へ入射された光を検出するための光検出器を上記光空洞に設置するステップと
を含み、
上記光空洞形成ステップにおいて、二つの放物線状の凹面鏡を利用して上記光空洞を形成し、上記放物線状の凹面鏡の各放物線が焦点と光軸を共有するように上記二つの凹面鏡を配置することを特徴とする気体センサーの製造方法。 - 上記光空洞形成ステップにおいて、上記放物線状の凹面鏡の各放物線の焦点距離が互いに異なるように上記二つの凹面鏡を配置し、
上記光源設置ステップにおいて、焦点距離が長い方の凹面鏡上の任意の点に光源を設置することにより、該光源から焦点に向かって放射された光が、上記二つの放物線状凹面鏡によって反射されながら上記光空洞内を循環した後に、上記光軸に収斂しうる構成とすることを特徴とする、請求項7に記載の気体センサーの製造方法。 - 上記光空洞形成ステップにおいて、上記各放物線の焦点距離の比を調整することにより光経路を調整することを特徴とする、請求項8に記載の気体センサーの製造方法。
- 光検出器で検出されるまでの上記光空洞内の光の経路の長さ(L)が次の式
L = 4Np(1-T) = 4N(p+p’)
(N=光の循環回数、p, p'=各放物線の焦点距離、T=-p'/p)
を満足するように、上記各放物線の焦点距離の比を調整するステップを更に含むことを特徴とする、請求項8に記載の気体センサーの製造方法。 - 上記光源設置ステップにおいて、上記光源の位置をA0 = (α0, β0)とし、上記光空洞を一回循環した光が凹面鏡によって反射される、該凹面鏡上の点の位置をA1 = (α1, β1)とし、上記光空洞をN回循環した光を検出する上記光検出器の位置をAN = (αN, βN)とした場合、上記光のビーム径が次の式
β0 - β1 > L1/2 + (L1/2)sinθ
(L1=光のビーム径、θ=上記光軸の法線方向に対する上記光源からの光の入射角)
を満足するように、上記光源を上記光空洞に設置し、
上記光検出器設置ステップにおいて、上記光検出器の断面半径が次の式

を満足するように、上記光検出器を上記光空洞に設置することを特徴とする、請求項10に記載の気体センサーの製造方法。
