Claims (14)
- 入力映像信号に応じてプラズマディスプレイパネルに表示する各フレームの画像を複数個のサブフィールドに分割し、これらのサブフィールドに与えられた加重値を組み合わせて階調を表現し、前記入力映像信号によって判断されるフレーム毎の画面表示負荷率が低いときにはフレームの表示に使用されるサブフィールドの個数を減らし、前記画面表示負荷率が高いときにはサブフィールドの個数を増加させるプラズマディスプレイパネルの駆動方法であって、
前記フレームの表示に使用されるサブフィールドを特定の加重値を持つサブフィールドを基準にして二つのサブフィールドグループに分離し、前記フレームの表示に使用されるサブフィールドの個数によって前記フレームの期間中の前記サブフィールドが占める期間を除いた残余期間である休止期間を、前記分離した二つのサブフィールドグループの間に配置したり、または前記休止期間を二つに分離して、前記分離した二つのサブフィールドグループの間と前記フレームの開始時点とに、各々配置し、
前記サブフィールドは、各サブフィールドの加重値が増加または減少するように配置され、
前記特定の加重値は、前記フレームの表示に使用される全てのサブフィールドの加重値の合計の5/100〜10/100範囲中のいずれか一つの数値であり、
前記休止期間を二つのサブフィールドグループの間に配置する場合の前記フレームの表示に使用されるサブフィールドの個数は、前記休止期間を二つに分離してそのうちの一つを二つのサブフィールドグループの間に配置して、残りの一つを前記フレームの開始時点に配置する場合の前記フレームの表示に使用されるサブフィールドの個数より多く、
前記特定の加重値を持つサブフィールドは、前記分離した二つのサブフィールドのうち、いずれかに属することを特徴とするプラズマディスプレイパネルの駆動方法。 - 前記特定の加重値は、前記フレームの表示に使用される全てのサブフィールドの加重値の合計の7/100であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のプラズマディスプレイパネルの駆動方法。
- 前記休止期間を前記分離した二つのサブフィールドグループの間に配置する場合、前記分離されたサブフィールドグループのうちの前記特定の加重値より小さい加重値を持つサブフィールドによって構成されたサブフィールドグループで、最小の加重値を持つサブフィールドの開始時点が前記フレームの開始時点と同じであることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のプラズマディスプレイパネルの駆動方法。
- 前記分離されたサブフィールドグループのうちの前記特定の加重値以上の加重値を持つサブフィールドによって構成されたサブフィールドグループで、最大の加重値を持つサブフィールドの終了時点が前記フレームの終了時点と同じであることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のプラズマディスプレイパネルの駆動方法。
- 前記分離されたサブフィールドグループのうちの前記特定の加重値以上の加重値を持つサブフィールドによって構成されたサブフィールドグループで、最大の加重値を持つサブフィールドの終了時点が前記フレームの終了時点より特定時間程度速く、前記特定時間は、0μs〜500μs範囲の時間のうちのいずれか一つの時間であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のプラズマディスプレイパネルの駆動方法。
- 前記フレームの表示に使用されるサブフィールドの個数が12個以上である場合、前記休止期間を前記分離した二つのサブフィールドグループの間に配置し、前記サブフィールドの個数が12個より少ない場合、前記休止期間を二つに分離して前記分離した二つのサブフィールドグループの間と前記フレームの開始時点とに各々配置することを特徴とする請求項1に記載のプラズマディスプレイパネルの駆動方法。
- 前記休止期間を二つに分離して前記分離した二つのサブフィールドグループの間と前記フレームの開始時点とに各々配置する場合、前記フレームの開始時点に配置される休止期間は、前記分離したサブフィールドグループのうちの前記特定加重値より少ない加重値を持つサブフィールドによって構成されたサブフィールドグループで、最小の加重値を持つサブフィールドの期間と同じであることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のプラズマディスプレイパネルの駆動方法。
- 前記フレームの開始時点に配置される休止期間は、0μs〜1msの時間範囲のうちのいずれか一つの時間であることを特徴とする請求項7に記載のプラズマディスプレイパネルの駆動方法。
- 前記入力映像信号はNTSC方式による信号であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のプラズマディスプレイパネルの駆動方法。
- 入力映像信号に応じてプラズマディスプレイパネルに表示する各フレームの画像を複数個のサブフィールドに分割し、これらのサブフィールドに与えられた加重値を組み合わせて階調を表現し、前記入力映像信号によって判断されるフレーム毎の画面表示負荷率が低いときにはフレームの表示に使用されるサブフィールドの個数を減らし、前記画面表示負荷率が高いときにはサブフィールドの個数を増加させるプラズマディスプレイパネルの駆動装置であって、
前記入力映像信号を利用して画面表示負荷率を検出し、検出した画面表示負荷率によって消費電力を制御するためのAPCレベルを計算して出力するAPC部と、
前記APC部で計算されたAPCレベルに応じてサブフィールドの数と、各サブフィールドの開始時点及び期間と、維持放電パルスの数と、を含むデータを算出し、前記算出したデータによって対応するサブフィールド配列構造を生成して出力する時、前記算出したサブフィールドの数に応じてサブフィールドを特定の加重値を持つサブフィールドを基準に二つのサブフィールドグループに分離し、前記フレームの表示に使用されるサブフィールドの個数によって前記フレームの期間中の前記サブフィールドが占める期間を除いた残余期間である休止期間を、前記分離した二つのサブフィールドグループの間に配置したり、または前記休止期間を二つに分離して、前記分離した二つのサブフィールドグループの間と前記フレームの開始時点とに各々配置するサブフィールド配列構造を生成して出力する維持・走査駆動制御部と、を備え、
前記サブフィールドは、各サブフィールドの加重値が増加または減少するように配置され、
前記特定の加重値は、前記フレームの表示に使用される全てのサブフィールドの加重値の合計の5/100〜10/100範囲中のいずれか一つの数値であり、
前記休止期間を二つのサブフィールドグループの間に配置する場合の前記フレームの表示に使用されるサブフィールドの個数は、前記休止期間を二つに分離してそのうちの一つを二つのサブフィールドグループの間に配置して、残りの一つを前記フレームの開始時点に配置する場合の前記フレームの表示に使用されるサブフィールドの個数より多く、
前記特定の加重値を持つサブフィールドは、前記分離した二つのサブフィールドのうち、いずれかに属することを特徴とするプラズマディスプレイパネルの駆動装置。 - 前記維持・走査駆動制御部で算出されたサブフィールドの数と前記入力映像信号を受信し、それに応じてサブフィールドデータを生成するメモリ制御部と、
前記メモリ制御部から出力されるサブフィールドデータに対応するアドレスデータを生成して前記プラズマディスプレイパネルのアドレス電極に印加するアドレス駆動部と、
前記維持・走査駆動制御部から出力されるサブフィールド配列構造に基づいて維持放電パルス及び走査パルスを生成して前記プラズマディスプレイパネルの走査電極と維持電極に印加する維持・走査駆動部と、をさらに備えることを特徴とする請求項10に記載のプラズマディスプレイパネルの駆動装置。 - 前記特定の加重値は、前記フレームの表示に使用される全てのサブフィールドの加重値の合計の7/100であることを特徴とする請求項10に記載のプラズマディスプレイパネルの駆動装置。
- 前記休止期間は、前記維持・走査駆動制御部によって算出されたサブフィールド数と、各サブフィールドの開始時点及び期間と、を含むデータに基づいて算出されることを特徴とする請求項10に記載のプラズマディスプレイパネルの駆動装置。
- 前記休止期間を二つに分離して前記分離した二つのサブフィールドグループの間と前記フレームの開始時点とに各々配置する場合、前記フレームの開始時点に配置される休止期間は、前記分離されたサブフィールドグループのうちの前記特定加重値より少ない加重値を持つサブフィールドによって構成されたサブフィールドグループで、最小の加重値を持つサブフィールドの期間と同じであることを特徴とする請求項10に記載のプラズマディスプレイパネルの駆動装置。
