【発明の属する技術分野】
本発明はシート状包装材料で作られた流動食品のパッケージをシールする超音波シール装置に関する。

【従来の技術】
特に本発明は、それに限定されるわけではないが、シート状包装材料の連続充填されるチューブから作られるパッケージの成形およびシールを行うユニットに好ましく適用される。

フルーツ・ジュース、低温殺菌またはUHT(超高温処理)ミルク、ワイン、トマト・ソースなどの多くの流動食品は、殺菌した包装材料で作られたパッケージにて販売されている。

そのような典型的なパッケージは、テトラ・ブリック・アセプティック(登録商標)として知られた液体または流動食品用の平行六面体形状のパッケージであり、そのパッケージは積層した包装材料のウェブを折り曲げ且つシールして形成される。積層包装材料は、繊維質材料の層、例えばポリエチレンの熱密着性プラスチック材料で両面を被覆された紙を含み、またUHTミルクのような長期保存食品用の無菌パッケージの場合には、最終的にパッケージ内食品に接触されるパッケージ材料の面は、酸素バリヤ材料の層、例えばアルミニウムまたはエチレンビニルアルコール(EVOH)のシートも有し、これはさらに多数の熱密着性プラスチック材料の層で被覆される。

知られているように、このようなパッケージは全自動包装機械で作られ、その機械ではウェブ給送される包装材料から連続チューブが形成され、その包装材料ウェブは包装機械自体において例えば過酸化水素溶液のような化学殺菌剤殺菌を付与することで殺菌され、殺菌剤は殺菌後に例えば加熱して蒸発させることで包装材料の表面から取り除かれ、またこのように殺菌された包装材料ウェブは閉じた無菌環境の中に保持され、折り曲げ且つ長手方向にシールされて垂直チューブを形成する。

チューブは殺菌されたまたは無菌処理済みの食品を頂部から充填され、2組のジョーによって等間隔の横断部分にてグリップされる。さらに詳しくは、2組のジョーはチューブに対して周期的に連続して作用し、チューブの包装材料をシールし、またそれぞれの横断シール・バンドで互いに連結された枕形状パックが連続したストリップを形成する。

枕形状パックはそれぞれのシール・バンドを切断することで分離され、またその後最終折り曲げステーションへ給送され、そこで最終的な平行六面体形状に機械的に折り曲げられる。

バリヤ材料としてアルミニウムの層を有する無菌パッケージの場合、チューブの横断面部分は、通常、そのアルミニウムの層に損流を誘起させることで熱密着性プラスチック材料を局部的に溶融させてシールされる。

特に、各組の一方のジョーは非導電性材料で作られた主本体と、主本体内の面座に収容された誘導子とを含み、他方のジョーは弾性材料、例えばゴムで作られた押圧パッドを含む。

アルミニウム層のないパッケージの場合、または他の導電性材料の場合、チューブの横断面部分は、通常、包装材料の内部を局部的に加熱するためにホット・プレートを使用してシールされる。

さらに詳しくは、一方のジョーがホット・プレートを備え、他方のジョーは通常は1つ以上の弾性材料の押圧パッドを有する。このシール方法は「ホット・プレート」シールと称されるが、ホット・プレートと包装材料とを比較的長い時間接触させることが必要となる。

包装材料の局部的な溶融を促進するために、またこのようにしてパッケージの生産量を増やすために、超音波シールの使用が増えており、これは一方のジョーが担持する超音周波数での機械的振動を発生する装置(以下に簡単に「超音波装置」と称する)と、反対側のジョーで担持され、堅い支持面として作用するアンビルとによって実施されるのであり、包装材料のチューブはその超音波装置およびアンビルの間にグリップされて2つの対面する材料壁を互いに接触且つ圧縮し、また超音波振動が材料を加熱して熱可塑性材料を溶融し、チューブ壁をシールする。

さらに詳しくは、超音波装置は外側ケーシングと、ケーシングに収容された例えばEP−A−0615907に記載の形式の1つ以上の超音波振動発生装置と、一対の直角壁または折り曲げプレートとを含む。折り曲げプレートはケーシングの前部を閉じて前部開口を形成し、この開口を通して発生器は材料と協働する。折り曲げプレートは、シール作動時に形成される汚れ且つ溶融した熱可塑性材料に対する超音波振動発生器すなわちソノトロード(sonotrodes)の安全保護を果たし、ジョーと材料との接触状態を定め、このようにしてパッケージの幾何形状を定めることを補助する。

しかしながら汚れ且つ溶融した熱可塑性材料は前部開口を通してジョーの内部に付着する傾向をさらに示し、したがって周期的な清浄作業が不可欠である。

上述した形式の知られているジョーは幾つかの欠点を有す。

第1に、ソノトロードの清浄作業は折り曲げプレートの完全な取り外しを必要とし、これは生産環境のもとでは実施できない。したがって、研究施設の状況のもとに熟練した者の助けを得て装置を完全に取り外すことが必要となる。

本発明の目的は、既知の装置に典型的に存在する前述した欠点を解消するように設計された超音波シール装置を提供することである。

【発明の実施の形態】
図1は、例えば低温殺菌またはUHT(超高温処理)ミルク、フルーツ・ジュース、ワインなどの流動食品2の、シールしたパッケージを生産する包装機械のための成形および横断シール・ユニットを全体的に示す。

例えば汚れやシール作業時に形成された溶融した熱可塑性材料の痕跡を除去するために、ソノトロード18のヘッド25のクリーニングは、簡単に折り曲げプレート42を取り外すことで迅速且つ容易に行われる。折り曲げプレート42はまた、例えば凹部49のないプレート、または異なる形式の開口装置を受け入れるための別の形状の凹部を有するプレートと交換できる。

Claims (2)

  1. 流動食品のパッケージを製造するための包装機械によって垂直下方へ給送される包装材料(4)のチューブ(3)に横方向シールを形成するシール装置であって、
    前記チューブ(3)の対向両側に位置していて周期的かつ連続的に互いに離接する方向へ移動させられる第1および第2のジョー(8、9)と、
    前記第1および第2のジョー(8、9)のそれぞれに支持され、互いに協働してチューブ(3)をその等間隔の横断シール・バンド(6)に沿ってグリップして、枕形状のパック(7)の形態のシールされたパッケージを形成する超音波シール装置(10)およびアンビル(11)とを含み、
    前記超音波シール装置(10)は、前記第1のジョー(8)に支持されたボックス形本体(28)と前部形成部分(30)とを有するケーシング(16)と、一部が前記ボックス形本体(28)に収容された少なくとも1つの超音波振動発生器(18)とを備え、該超音波振動発生器(18)は、前記前部形成部分(30)によって保持されたヘッド(25)を有し、そのヘッドが前記ボックス形本体(28)に隣接する位置からアンビル(11)へ向けて延び、アンビル(11)と協働して前記シール・バンド(6)をシールするようになっており、
    また、前記前部形成部分(30)は、前記ボックス形本体(28)に隣接する位置からからアンビル(11)へ向けて突出し、アンビル(11)と協働してチューブ(3)を前記枕形状のパック(7)の形態に折り曲げる上側および下側の折り曲げプレート(42,43)を備えており、
    前記上側および下側の折り曲げプレート(42,43)は、それぞれ前記ヘッド(25)の上下面を覆うように配列されていて該ヘッド(25)を保護しており、また、前記上側および下側の折り曲げプレート(42,43)のうちの少なくとも上側の折り曲げプレート(42)が取り外し可能であることを特徴とするシール装置。
  2. 前記アンビル(11)に中央水平間隙(14)が形成され、その中央水平間隙(14)内にナイフ(15)がスライド可能に収容されていて、該ナイフ(15)が該中央水平間隙(14)を通して該アンビル(11)から突出して枕形状のパック(7)の形態のシールされた前記パッケージを前記シール・バンド(6)に沿って個々のパッケージに切断するようになっており、また、超音波振動発生器(18)に、前記中央水平間隙(14)に整合して、前記アンビル(11)から突出する前記ナイフ(15)を受け入れる中央水平スロット(33)が形成されていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載されたシール装置。
