【発明の詳細な説明】
【0001】
【発明の属する技術分野】本発明はシート状包装材料で
作られた流動食品のパッケージをシールする超音波シー
ル装置に関する。
【0002】
【従来の技術】特に本発明は、それに限定されるわけで
はないが、シート状包装材料の連続充填されるチューブ
から作られるパッケージの成形およびシールを行うユニ
ットに好ましく適用される。
【0003】フルーツ・ジュース、低温殺菌またはUH
T(超高温処理)ミルク、ワイン、トマト・ソースなど
の多くの流動食品は、殺菌した包装材料で作られたパッ
ケージにて販売されている。
【0004】そのような典型的なパッケージは、テトラ
・ブリック・アセプティック(登録商標)として知られ
た液体または流動食品用の平行六面体形状のパッケージ
であり、そのパッケージは積層した包装材料のウェブを
折り曲げ且つシールして形成される。積層包装材料は、
繊維質材料の層、例えばポリエチレンの熱密着性プラス
チック材料で両面を被覆された紙を含み、またUHTミ
ルクのような長期保存食品用の無菌パッケージの場合に
は、最終的にパッケージ内食品に接触されるパッケージ
材料の面は、酸素バリヤ材料の層、例えばアルミニウム
またはエチレンビニルアルコール(EVOH)のシート
も有し、これはさらに多数の熱密着性プラスチック材料
の層で被覆される。
【0005】知られているように、このようなパッケー
ジは全自動包装機械会で作られ、その機械ではウェブ給
送される包装材料から連続チューブが形成され、その包
装材料ウェブは包装機械自体において例えば過酸化水素
溶液のような化学殺菌剤殺菌を付与することで殺菌さ
れ、殺菌剤は殺菌後に例えば加熱して蒸発させることで
包装材料の表面から取り除かれ、またこのように殺菌さ
れた包装材料ウェブは閉じた無菌環境の中に保持され、
折り曲げ且つ長手方向にシールされて垂直チューブを形
成する。
【0006】チューブは殺菌されたまたは無菌処理済み
の食品を頂部から充填され、2組のジョーによって等間
隔の横断部分にてグリップされる。さらに詳しくは、2
組のジョーはチューブに対して周期的に連続して作用
し、チューブの包装材料をシールし、またそれぞれの横
断シール・バンドで互いに連結された枕形状パックが連
続したストリップを形成する。
【0007】枕形状パックはそれぞれのシール・バンド
を切断することで分離され、またその後最終折り曲げス
テーションへ給送され、そこで最終的な平行六面体形状
に機械的に折り曲げられる。
【0008】バリヤ材料としてアルミニウムの層を有す
る無菌パッケージの場合、チューブの横断面部分は、通
常、そのアルミニウムの層に損流を誘起させることで熱
密着性プラスチック材料を局部的に溶融させてシールさ
れる。
【0009】特に、各組の一方のジョーは非導電性材料
で作られた主本体と、主本体内の面座に収容された誘導
子とを含み、他方のジョーは弾性材料、例えばゴムで作
られた押圧パッドを含む。
【0010】関係する1組のジョーがチューブのまわり
をグリップしたときに誘導子が付勢され、プラスチック
製のカバー材料をシールすることでチューブの横断面部
分をシールする。
【0011】アルミニウム層のないパッケージの場合、
または他の導電性材料の場合、チューブの横断面部分
は、通常、包装材料の内部を局部的に加熱するためにホ
ット・プレートを使用してシールされる。
【0012】さらに詳しくは、一方のジョーがホット・
プレートを備え、他方のジョーは通常は1つ以上の弾性
材料の押圧パッドを有する。このシール方法は「ホット
・プレート」シールと称されるが、ホット・プレートと
包装材料とを比較的長い時間接触させることが必要とな
る。
【0013】包装材料の局部的な溶融を促進するため
に、またこのようにしてパッケージの生産量を増やすた
めに、超音波シールの使用が増えており、これは一方の
ジョーが担持する超音周波数での機械的振動を発生する
装置(以下に簡単に「超音波装置」と称する)と、反対
側のジョーで担持され、堅い支持面として作用するアン
ビルとによって実施されるのであり、包装材料のチュー
ブはその超音波装置およびアンビルの間にグリップされ
て2つの対面する材料壁を互いに接触且つ圧縮し、また
超音波振動が材料を加熱して熱可塑性材料を溶融し、チ
ューブ壁をシールする。
【0014】さらに詳しくは、超音波装置は外側ケーシ
ングと、ケーシングに収容された例えばEP−A−06
15907に記載の形式の1つ以上の超音波振動発生装
置と、一対の直角壁または折り曲げプレートとを含む。
折り曲げプレートはケーシングの前部を閉じて前部開口
を形成し、この開口を通して発生器は材料と協働する。
折り曲げプレートは、シール作動時に形成される汚れ且
つ溶融した熱可塑性材料に対する超音波振動発生器すな
わちソノトロード(sonotrodes)の安全保護を果たし、
ジョーと材料との接触状態を定め、このようにしてパッ
ケージの幾何形状を定めることを補助する。
【0015】しかしながら汚れ且つ溶融した熱可塑性材
料は前部開口を通してジョーの内部に付着する傾向をさ
らに示し、したがって周期的な清浄作業が不可欠であ
る。
【0016】上述した形式の知られているジョーは幾つ
かの欠点を有す。
【0017】第1に、ソノトロードの清浄作業は折り曲
げプレートの完全な取り外しを必要とし、これは生産環
境のもとでは実施できない。したがって、研究施設の状
況のもとに熟練した者の助けを得て装置を完全に取り外
すことが必要となる。
【0018】例えば材料から突出するキャップのような
予め取り付けられる開口装置を備えたパッケージを製造
する場合、折り曲げプレートの1つは開口装置との干渉
を防止するために、製造される特定礼式のパッケージに
応じて形状を定められ捩りばね成らない。したがって、
製造変更の場合には、全装置を取り外して交換しなけれ
ばならない。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】本発明の目的は、既知
の装置に典型的に存在する前述した欠点を解消するよう
に設計された超音波シール装置を提供することである。

に記載されたような超音波シール装置が提供される。

【発明の実施の形態】図1は、例えば低温殺菌またはU
HT(超高温処理)ミルク、フルーツ・ジュース、ワイ
ンなどの流動食品2の、シールしたパッケージを生産す
る包装機械のための成形および横断シール・ユニットを
全体的に示す。
【0023】チューブ3は、熱密着性シート材料のウェ
ブを長手方向に折り曲げてシールすることで知られたよ
うにユニット1の上流で形成され、包装するために殺菌
されたまたは無菌処理済みの食品2を頂部から連続的に
充填され、そしてユニット1を通る垂直移送路Pに沿っ
て下方へ充填方向に給送される。
【0024】ユニット1は2つの成形およびシール組立
体5(図1には1つだけ示される)を含み、この組立体
は周期的且つ連続して包装材料のチューブ3と相互に作
用してそのチューブを等間隔の横断シール・バンド6に
沿ってグリップし、バンド6に沿って超音波シールを行
って連続した枕形状のパック7を形成し、その後切断し
て枕形状のパックを切り離す。

とするだけで本明細書に記載した各組立体5は、チュー
ブ3の反対両側に配置された実質的に2つのジョー8,
9を含み、ジョーは本発明による超音波シール装置10
と、アンビル11(図2)とをそれぞれ含む。
【0026】アンビル11は、ジョー9に固定され且つ
前部に互いに平行な水平上部リブ12と水平下部リブ1
3とを有するバーで実質的に形成されている。アンビル
11はまたリブ12とリブ13との間に位置し且つナイ
フ15の座を形成する中央水平間隙14を含み、ナイフ
15は横断シール・バンド6に沿ってチューブ3を切断
するためにスライド可能に且つ周知の作動装置(図示せ
ず)で制御されて収容される。

各々の凹部はそれぞれのソノトロード18の反作用錘お
よび装置27を収容している。ケーシング16はまた、
パッケージを形成するときにチューブ3と相互に作用す
る前部形成部分30と、前部開口31とを含み、この開
口を通してそれぞれ並んで同一面をなすヘッド25の前
部シール面32が外方へ向いている。

を切断するときにナイフ15を受け入れるための中央ス

24の残留振動の全てを吸収するために保持リング34
を介在させて保持されることが好ましい。さまざまな個
数の較正シム37(図4)が形成部分30と本体28と
の間に配置される。
【0032】部分30は上側の直角アングル部材38と
下側の直角アングル部材39で形成されており、これら
の部材は、使用において包装材料のチューブ3の移送路
Pに直角である本体28の対称水平中央面αに沿って組
み合わされる。

39はそれぞれ実質的に平坦なフランジ40,41を含

5の間に位置された2つの実質的に梁状の中間支持部材
46との上におかれる。

47(図1)に嵌合されるならば、折り曲げプレート4
2の外面48は同じ形状の凹部49を同じ位置に含み、
成形作動時に開口装置47を受け入れることが好まし
い。
【0037】実際の使用において、各成形組立体5のジ
ョー8,9は知られているように周期的に作動され、各
サイクルは装置10とアンビル11との間にチューブ3
をグリップする段階と、ヘッド25の前部部分32のバ
ンド32a,32bに沿ってシール作業を十分に実施で
きるようにするために移送路Pの部分に沿って接近した
位置にジョー8,9を送る段階と、切断作業の段階と、
チューブ3を解放するためにジョー8,9を開離させる
段階と、ジョー8,9を次のサイクルに備えて上方の開
いた位置へ戻すように送る段階とを含む。
【0038】例えば汚れやシール作業時に形成された溶
融した熱可塑性材料の痕跡を上記するために、ソノトロ
ード18のヘッド25のクリーニングは、簡単に折り曲
げプレート42を取り外すことで迅速且つ容易に行われ
る。折り曲げプレート42はまた、例えば凹部49のな
いプレート、または異なる形式の開口装置を受け入れる
ための別の形状の凹部を有するプレートと交換できる。
【0039】既知の装置と相違して、プレート42はシ
ール装置全体を取り外すことなく、また特にソノトロー
ド18をケーシングから取り外すことなく、取り外しま
たは交換することができる。さらに、生産環境において
これを行うことができ、したがって保守および工具代え

ならびに機械の停止による生産損失を減少できる。

    分が含んでいることを特徴とする超音波シール装置。
  2. 【請求項2】 前記保持手段(35,34,24,4
    0,41)が前記発生器(18)の節面を定める中間円
    周フランジ(24)を含み、この中間円周フランジから
    前記ヘッド(25)が軸線方向に突出しており、前記フ
    ランジ(24)は前記ケーシング(16)の前記本体
    (28)と前記形成部分(30)との間に配置されてい
    ることを特徴とする請求項1に記載された装置。
  3. 【請求項3】 前記本体(28)に取り付けられ且つ互
    いの間に前記発生器(18)の前記ヘッド(25)を収
    容する、また前記ケーシング(16)の前記前部開口
    (31)を形成する2つの直角アングル部材(38,3
    9)を前記形成部分(30)が含むことを特徴とする請
    求項1または請求項2に記載された装置。
  4. 【請求項4】 前記直角アングル部材(38,39)が
    前記装置(10)の中央面(α)に沿って組み合わさ
    れ、前記中空本体(28)に固定されたそれぞれのフラ
    ンジ(40,41)を有し且つ前記保持手段(35,3
    4,24,40,41)の一部を形成して前記発生器
    (18)を保持しており、それぞれの折り曲げプレート
    (42,43)が前記フランジ(40,41)から延在
    して前記中央面に平行であることを特徴とする請求項3
    に記載された装置。
  5. 【請求項5】 前記折り曲げプレート(42,43)の
    少なくとも1つが前記形成部分(30)の前記取り外し
    可能なプレート(42)を形成することを特徴とする請
    求項4に記載された装置。
  6. 【請求項6】 それぞれの前記直角アングル部材(3
    8)の前記フランジ(40)から一体に突出する多数の
    支持部材(45,46)に対して、前記取り外し可能な
    折り曲げプレート(42)が固定されていることを特徴
    とする請求項5に記載された装置。
  7. 【請求項7】 前記包装材料(4)に事前に取り付けら
    れた開口装置(47)を収容するための凹部(49)が
    形成されている外面(48)を、前記取り外し可能なプ
    レート(42)が有することを特徴とする請求項1から
    請求項6までのいずれか一項に記載された装置。
  8. 【請求項8】 それぞれのヘッド(25)の前部シール
    面(32)が並べられて互いに同一面とされた多数の並
    んだ発生器(18)を含み、前記取り外し可能なプレー
    ト(42)が前記ヘッド(25)に対して交差する方向
    に延在することを特徴とする請求項1から請求項7まで
    のいずれか一項に記載された装置。
