BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to color proofing (color proofing) performed in general commercial printing, in-house publishing, on-demand publishing, and the like, and is a remote color composed of a plurality of systems connected via a LAN, public line, dedicated line, etc. It relates to a proof system.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In the printing / advertisement / publishing industry, etc., before making the final printed matter, create a small number of proofs using a flat table proofing machine and an expensive DDCP (Direct Digital Color Proof) dedicated to color proofing. There is a process of obtaining approval. Until now, such proofs have been created by printing companies, etc., and delivered to the ordering party by physical transportation means such as courier and carrying, and color proofing has been performed. In addition, color proofing is rarely completed once, and the ordering party fills in the correction location and details, and the printing company etc. presents the revised color proof print to the ordering party, The color proofing process is repeated.
[0003]
Recently, full digitalization of prepress and remarkable improvement in color reproduction accuracy of general-purpose printers have made it possible to perform color calibration without using an expensive flatbed calibrator or DDCP dedicated to color calibration. For example, according to Nikkei Design, January 2001, pp. 20-23, “Fuji Xerox demonstrates the effectiveness of remote proofs to make print submissions online,” an electrophotographic printer and a dedicated CMS It can be seen that by using (Color Management System), remote color proof using network transmission is possible. Also, in the above document, it is necessary for the orderer to fill in the correction location and correction details (red), and send it back to the printing company, etc. The red color is added to the color proof printed by the remote color proof. It is described that it is digitized by a scanner and a correction instruction is sent back from the ordering party to the ordering party again using network transmission.
[0004]
Remote color proofing is highly effective in reducing time and transportation costs. Specifically, the time and cost associated with physical transportation are replaced by network transmission, and the cost required for printing color proofs is replaced by printer output, thereby reducing time and transportation costs. In such network transmission, in order to further reduce the cost, for example, when the transmission cost is a pay-as-you-go system for the transmission data, it is important to reduce the transmission data amount.
[0005]
Image data used for remote color proofing often uses a resolution of about 300 to 400 dpi that is used to actually create a printing plate. A3 size image data with this resolution is about 100 MB (megabytes) depending on the image format. Even if compression is performed, about 1/10 is the limit if the image quality deterioration is not so much a problem. That is, the image data amount is about 10 MB in A3 size. In the case of a magazine or the like, a plurality of pages are often sent, and the amount of image data may be several hundred MB. The compression method is irreversible when compression is performed with an efficiency of about 1/10 or more. However, when worrying about image quality degradation, there are cases where lossless compression or non-compression electronic transmission with poor compression efficiency is performed. In this case, the amount of image data reaches the order of GB (gigabytes). Sometimes.
[0007]
In case of returning the red color correction, so-called red input back, if it is not performed by network transmission, the meaning of remote color proof will be halved, as described in the above document. is there. Conventionally, even when this red insertion is performed, since transmission is performed at the same resolution as that of the electronic document, the transmission time is long and expensive.
[0008]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
The present invention has been made in view of the above-described circumstances, and an object of the present invention is to provide a remote color proof system and a remote color proof method that reduce the cost required for a calibration process such as color calibration.
[0009]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The present invention prints color image data obtained by copying original color image data transmitted from a creation system or by converting the resolution of the original color image data, and a proof including information for specifying the color image data, The editor puts red on the proof, reads the red proof with the reading means, extracts information for specifying color image data from the read image, and reads the proof after red reading The image is transmitted to the correction system together with information for specifying color image data.
[0010]
At this time, the redlined image can be transmitted to the correction system at a low resolution. The image data at the time of red insertion / return can basically be transmitted only at a low resolution because an instruction for editing is transmitted. Therefore, by transmitting the proofed image data after red insertion to the correction system at a low resolution, it is possible to reduce the cost required for transmission and provide a more efficient remote color proofing system.
[0012]
When the proof printed in red is read and transmitted by the reading means in this way, it can be configured to read and transmit only by a red insertion back instruction from the user interface. As a result, it is possible to construct an easy-to-use system that reduces the trouble for the editor.
[0013]
Also, when reading the proof printed in red and transmitting the image, for example, specifying the color image data when the proof was printed and extracting the difference from the color image data, or the color used for red A portion can be extracted to obtain a red-filled image. Alternatively, it is possible to selectively read only the reddish portion at the stage of reading by the reading means and transfer it as a reddish image.
[0014]
In addition, information on the red layer after red insertion and information on red insertion such as low resolution image data read by the reading means are not transmitted directly to the correction system, but once transmitted to the server, You may comprise so that a correction system may take out from a server. In that case, the server can be configured to notify the correction system that the red insertion back information has been stored in the server.
