この様な原材料からなる従来の稲用育苗床は、原材料そのものが生分解されない物質であるために、育苗後に残された育苗床(残床)の除去並びに廃棄処理に多大の手数を要する欠点があった。又、この手数を少しでも省く目的で、田植え時にそのまま土中に埋没させてしまう場合もあるが、この様な処理が度重なるとその後の栽培に重大な支障をきたすので問題事項となっていた。更に、手数をかけて除去した残床の処分に関しても、例えば埋め立て地などで土中に埋没させても何時までも腐敗せず、焼却処分するときには有害ガスを発生するので、環境の破壊や汚染、更には公害問題が発生するという解決すべき課題を有していた。

そこで、本発明に於いては、上記欠点や問題事項並びに課題を解決するために、安価で且つ生分解処理が可能な再生材或いは未利用資源である植物性材料を利用して、大量生産が可能で細菌や黴による育苗床の変質や損傷を防止すると共に、廃棄するに際してもそのまま土中に廃棄、放置しても生分解され、有害物質を発生することがなく、土質改良にも有用であるマット状となった多孔質の稲用育苗床を提供することを目的とする。
