ウルボックスに関し、特に振動音の伝達を抑制するため
の構造に関するものである。 【0002】 【従来の技術】モノコックボディに於ては、エンジンル
ームと車室間を隔絶するダッシュボードの上部は、車幅
方向一杯に延在するカウルボックスで構成されている。
このカウルボックスの上部側にフロントウィンドシール
ド下縁の支持部が設けられ、後部側にステアリングホイ
ールの支持部や計器盤の取付部が設けられることが一般

大きくなる。 【0004】 【発明が解決しようとする課題】そのため、エンジンル
ーム内で発生する音や振動により、カウルボックスが振
動し易くなり、車室内に音を伝達し易いものとなる可能
性がある。特に、ダッシュボードが接続されるために比
較的高い剛性が得られる下面側に比して、一枚板で構成
される上面側にこの傾向が顕著に現れる。 【0005】本発明は、このような従来技術の不都合を
解消するべく案出されたものであり、その主な目的は、
面積を広くしても、振動は伝達され難くなるように構成
されたモノコックボディのカウルボックス構造を提供す
ることにある。 【0006】 【課題を解決するための手段】このような目的は、本発
明によれば、アッパ部材(2)とロア部材(3)とを概
ね偏平な箱状をなすように接合してなり、エンジンルー
ムと車室間を隔絶するダッシュボード(7)の上縁に前
記ロア部材が溶接されたカウルボックス(1)を、前記
アッパ部材における前記ロア部材と前記ダッシュボード
との溶接部に対応する位置に複数の孔(12)が開設さ
れ、該孔が振動伝達率の低い部材(エラストマ材のキャ
ップ13)で塞がれたものとすることによって達成され
る。 【0007】 【作用】このような構成によれば、カウルボックスをダ
ッシュボードの上縁にスポット溶接する際に、スポット
溶接ガンのチップをロア部材の内面に孔を経て到達させ
ることができるので、溶接作業性が高められる。しかも
振動伝達率の低い部材で孔を塞ぐことにより、カウルボ
ックス自体が振動し難くなると共に、エンジンルームか
ら伝わる音や振動の減衰効率が高まる。 【0008】 【実施例】以下に添付の図面に示された具体的な実施例
に基づいて本発明の構成を詳細に説明する。 【0009】図1並びに図2は、本発明に基づき構成さ
れたモノコックボディのカウルボックス部分を示してい
る。このカウルボックス1は、鋼板のプレス成形にて形
成されたアッパ部材2とロア部材3とを接合してなり、
概ね偏平な箱状をなし、車体のフロントピラー4の付け
根近傍で車幅方向一杯に延在している。そしてアッパ部
材2の前端縁にはフロントウィンドシールド5の下縁の
支持部6が形成され、ロア部材3の下面には車体フロア
(図示せず)から立ち上げられたダッシュボード7の上
縁が接続されている。 【0010】カウルボックス1は、前後方向中間部に固
設されたバルクヘッド8でその内部が仕切られており、
エンジンルーム9側は前部上面が開口したエアスクープ
ダクトとして機能し、車室10側は基本的に閉断面の構
造部材として機能する。この車室10側の閉断面部11
の内部空間は、空気調和装置の送風ダクトとして利用さ
れる。 【0011】アッパ部材2の閉断面部11側の上面に
は、長円形をなす複数の孔12が車幅方向に列設されて
いる。この孔12は、エラストマ材で形成されたキャッ
プ13で塞がれるようになっている。 【0012】アッパ部材2に開設された孔12は、各々
がロア部材3とダッシュボード7との接続部に対応して
おり、予め閉断面に形成されたカウルボックス1をダッ
シュボード7の上縁にスポット溶接する際に、スポット
溶接ガンのチップ14をロア部材3の内面に到達させる
ための通路として機能する。 【0013】さて、上記実施例に示すように、フロント
ウィンドシールド5の傾斜が緩やかであるがゆえにアッ
パ部材2を構成する板金の面積が大きくなるカウルボッ
クス構造にあっては、カウルボックス1自体が振動し易
いために車室10内に音を伝達し易くなる。そこで本発
明に於ては、カウルボックス1の閉断面部11に複数の
孔12を開設し、この孔12に振動伝達率の低い材料に
て形成されたキャップ13を嵌着するものとしている。
これにより、カウルボックス1のアッパ部材2自体が振
動し難くなると同時に、エンジンルーム9から車室10
に伝わる音や振動がキャップ13にて効果的に減衰され
ることとなる。 【0014】 【発明の効果】このように本発明によれば、カウルボッ
クスのアッパ部材に孔を開設し、この孔を振動伝達率の
低い部材で塞ぐことにより、カウルボックス自体が振動
し難くなると共に、エンジンルームから伝わる音や振動
の減衰効率が高まるので、車室内を静粛化する上に多大
な効果を奏することができる。また、カウルボックスと
ダッシュボードとの溶接部に対応する位置に配置した孔
からスポット溶接ガンのチップを差し込むことができる
ので、溶接作業性を高める上に大きな効果得られる。
